Has anyone heard from Covaan_Meshuga (Abiyah)? She hasn't logged in since January 11.

SHALOM Akhim! ANYBODY heard a peep out of Covaan_Meshuga lately?!

I've learned a lot just by lurking around and seeing how she interacts with other posters. Such a blessing.

I miss her as well. I understand were you all are coming from. I'm learning to discuss and not be offensive. I pray as the days go by that we can all be kindly affectionate (not in a homosexual lkind of way ) toward one another!

Shalom, I have been trying to study and understand baptism better. I have read from source upon source, but am still struggling to come to a conclusive opinion. I read a lot on the Jewish Mikveh, and get that precursory understanding, but when I go to John's baptism, I mostly get only a Christian understanding (and so it seems, to Christians, that John invented baptism, basically, or that he changed the meaning). I am having a hard time bridging the gap between it all, to understand what baptism really means for us today, and was hoping that some of you kiddies had some insights or could point me in a better direction :) Thanks! Ben

I have a second question, unrelated. I have a Jewish study Bible. It's decent, albeit, I wish it pointed to Yeshua. Still, I gain a lot from it. But, since it is purely Jewish, it also does not have a New Testament. What do you guys use? Any recommendations on a study Bible? I have plenty of other study Bibles, but am looking for something that better highlights the Jewish roots than what I have. I know of some, and have heard mixed reviews about almost all of them. Stern, for example, I have read a couple things that seemed to be incomplete to me.

Ben Look up a book (if you haven't read it already) by Aryeh Kaplan called "waters of Eden". His takes on the mikveh (I don't say Jewish because Jews didn't invent it... G-d did.) bridged the gap for me between the Mikveh and John's Baptism. Although if you do get this be aware that he is not a believer (at least not when he wrote it that is).

I have plenty of other study Bibles, but am looking for something that better highlights the Jewish roots than what I have. you are where I was about 10 years ago... longing to know and understand more and finding that the study bibles I had fell woefully short. Including even the CJB of David H. Stern. Although he DID help along the way... but again I wouldn't place all my faith in his paraphrase. just like I wouldn't become a KJV only person. I know too much about the translation issues. the conclusion I came to was to learn to read, write, and speak Hebrew. Greek... shall I be so bold as to say is greek to me? LOL I place my emphasis on the OT when it comes to study now. Not to dismiss the NT but the OT is the Scriptures that Paul, Yeshua, Peter, James, John, Luke, Matthew et al had to work from. If it was sufficient for them it's sufficient for me. I view the NT the same way a Jew views the Talmud. Very important. So important that sometimes they goof by comparing the OT to the Talmud and if there is a disagreement between the two the Talmud wins. I usually allow the OT to interpret the NT. NOT the other way around. given all of that... I now have a fifth grade level of Hebrew (reading, writing, and speaking). I use this Heavily with my Hebrew/English OT by the JPS (Jewish Publication Society). I also use a gideon's pocket size NT if I'm studying from the NT. I also use my memories of the CJB INTRODUCTION . It has a LOT of info in there that is worth getting the CJB for, if only for the intro! What I used to use (and still endorse for those who don't read Hebrew yet) is the Amplified and the KJV. A comparison of these two is usually where the meaning is to be found. quote:

I use the Jewish Study Bible, published by JPS, The Stone Edition Tanakh, by Artscroll, and the Archaeological Study Bible, published by Zondervan.

One of our elders just got back from the MJAA conference and brought back a stack of Gospels of John. It is the first offering from the Tree of Life Bible project, a full messianic edition. So far so good. It looks like Rabbi Jeff Feinberg from Chicago is heading up the process. It has the backing of the UMJC, Tikkun Ministries, Jews for Jesus, IAMCS (congregational branch of the MJAA) Jewish Jewels, Promise Keepers, Jewish Voice Ministries and others. About the only group I did not see listed was Chosen People Ministries. Anyone else hear of this?
