"Opponents of illegal immigration are fond of telling foreigners to "get in line" before coming to work in America. But what does that line actually look like, and how many years (or decades) does it take to get through? Try it for yourself!"

One of the comments on the site's page that caught my attention: "NONE of my (white European peasant) immigrant ancestors would've made it to this country if today's standards had applied a century ago."

Some estimates place the current number of illegals in America at 20 million - and more.

That is approximately equivalent to the population of the entire State of New York.

"Illegal" or not, America has more pressing problems than subjecting the nation to the added turmoil and expense of trying to apprehend and deport 20 million people.

IMO most people have accepted the fact that we can not possibly deport all of the illegal immigrants in this country. What we can and must do is change immigration laws, however, because of the Racism industry reform of immigration laws can nst seem to be discussed in any way shape or form without people endeavoring to change the laws being labeled as racists.

Part of the changes that need to be made include finding a fairly fair way of including those who are already here and desire to be citizens, at some time, a way to be inluded in the line of legal immigrants. However, that way should in no way reward illegales for "cutting in line". On top of the regular fees that immigration requirs, they need to pay some kind of penalty for violating the law.

We can need to deport those that have made a life out of breaking the laws of this country and tend to populate our prisons.

I agree with practically everything you said. They need to be made part of the system as quickly as possible. Immigration already fines people who are illegal and coming into the system so they do have a monetary punishment. Those that think illegal immigration can be stopped or slowed considerably have no foothold in reality! It's logistically impossible!

It sometimes takes the police weeks to apprehend a suspect that has been identified. How long may it take for someone whom they don't even know exists?

very true. none of my ancestors would have had years to wait...and thousands to spend on fees and immigration attorneys to "BUY" their way into the United States.

what also gets overlooked are the large numbers of "illegal immigrants" from WAY BACK then....all of just 'assume' that our ancestors arrived here 'legally', and that's clearly not the case.

Only the un-informed believes that we have to deport all of the millions of illegals. First of all, I don't see why some believe in the "all or nothing" plan where we either deport ALL of them, or don't deport them at all. We can deport them as we find them (more on that later).

In the 1950's, under Eisenhower, the US had "Operation ****" which deported 80,000 illegals, and 500,00 to 700,000 left on there own (out of fear of deportation). Here is a link for those who never heard of it: OW LINK

The same thing is happening today but at a lower scale because the crackdowns on illegals is not nationwide. For example, no other city in TX has deported more illegals than Irving, which is in Dallas county. They are in the "24/7 Criminal Alien Program", a program from ICE. That one town has deported more than 1,600 in one year and they do not go hunting for illegals like some believe they do. If you are pulled over for speeding and don't have documentary or are taken to jail because of theft and you are illegal, you will be deported.

Because of that and raids in some factories, tens of thousands have left out of fear. That may not sound like a lot, but if all states enforced the rule of law we can deport many and "scare" others into leaving.

What does illegal immigration cost TX alone?:

quote:

The more than $4.7 billion in costs incurred by Texas taxpayers annually result from outlays in the following areas:

* Education. Based on estimates of the illegal immigrant population in Texas and documented costs of K-12 schooling, Texans spend more than $4 billion annually on education for illegal immigrant children and for their U.S.-born siblings. About 11.9 percent of the K-12 public school students in Texas are children of illegal aliens.

* Health Care. Taxpayer-funded medical outlays for health care provided to the state’s illegal alien population amount to about $520 million a year.

* Incarceration. The uncompensated cost of incarcerating illegal aliens in Texas’s state and county prisons amounts to about $150 million a year (not including local jail detention costs or related law enforcement and judicial expenditures or the monetary costs of the crimes that led to their incarceration).
