I had believed this was a dead issue because one of the Iraqi ministers denied the reports (even though an Obama campaign press release had confirmed part of the allegation). But now another Iraqi official has spoken up and said that Obama did indeed urge the Iraqis not to sign a security pact with the United States. Quote from the article: quote:
But legislature Mohammed al-Mehmedawi of al-Fadila bloc said “Obama advised Iraqi politicians not to sign the pact.” “He did so because he believed that if the pact would not be signed, it would be a landmark for republicans’ policy failure in Iraq,” he noted. Full article here, from Aswat al-Iraq (Voices of Iraq) If this is true, it is clearly a violation of the Logan Act, and furthermore a betrayal of this country solely in pursuit of personal political gain. This issue came to light well in advance of the general election. Why was there no investigation? True, there are conflicting statements from multiple Iraqi officials. But that is why an investigation should have been conducted - to get to the truth of the matter. Because if this is accurate, 65 million Americans just elected as President a man who has no problems stabbing this country in the back for his own personal gain. -Robb
