hi guys... Christian music has always been my genre of choice to listen to, but lately that has been interspersed by the music of a young man from Rockwall, TX by the name of Jason Castro... he hasn't put out any of HIS music yet, but i have all his studio versions from that little show american idol and his songs he sang at his church and some of his original songs he recorded as demos on my ipod and i really love listening to him. He is an amazing Christian young man, too, who was not afraid to shine his light on that decidedly secular show, much the same way Mandisa and Melissa Dolittle did. I was just wondering if any others of you have heard him. He's worth a listen. You can find him on www.myspace.com/jasoncastromusic ... give him a listen... you might like what you hear...

Isn't he the dreadlock guy from last year? Pretty decent voice, not much stage presence?

very decent voice and his stage presence developed quite a bit on tour... he is not the run-around-the-stage type of performer anyway, and people who look for that will be disappointed, i'm sure... he's more the type who reaches out to the audience and pulls them into the intimacy of the song... he sings with his heart and soul as well as with his voice... if you ever get a chance to really sit and listen to him, i think you'll see... for someone who only took up the guitar and started teaching himself to sing two years ago, i think he's doing very well... raw talent... that 's jason...

Jason Castro is an amazing performer. He captured my attention when I first saw him on the American Idol Top 24 show and as I got to learn more and more about him, my admiration for this inspirational Christian man grew and grew. Here is a performer who said in one of his first interviews that his goal was to serve. His performance of Hallelujia on the show, left me speechless. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcJ27DD06As

I liked Jason right away, mostly because he was so humble and I liked his awkward stage presence. But, oh boy when he sang Travlin Thru, I felt the way he connected with the song. Then I learned of his love of the lord and how he had been on mission trips. When he had his pastor at his homecoming and stood and prayed with his family in front of thousands of people, I knew he was the real thing. Want to do everything I can to support him.

I think he is cute and an ok singer but didn't seem serious enough to me.

I know Jason goofed around alot on the show. But, I think that was somewhat of a tension reliever. Hes is very serious about the important things, his faith, his family/friends/girlfriend,his music. I mean he was the one reading his bible when all the Idols went to Las Vegas. It is so funny, in one of his recent bulletins he ended with"shine your light". Just reading your bible passage.

I think the reason that Jason didn't seem to take the show as seriously as the other contestants, was that he knew winning wasn't the most important thing. He has his priorities straight and for him, God and family come first. He was quoted in another interview "In the end it will all be okay. If it's not okay, it's not the end". I think his unwavering trust in God was how he got through all he did on that show, with such grace and humility.

I think he was taking the show more seriously than it may have seemed... he was just so much less experienced than the others... but i think he learned an awful lot... i've heard him say that it was like being in school... most of the others there had years and years of experience and a lot of professional help with vocal instructors... he had to learn on the fly, and i am so impressed with how much he did learn... he's a very bright young man... very talented, very committed to excellence in his music... i can hardly wait for him to shine his light for everyone, not just those who 'got' him on American Idol this past year...
