Hidee, This is a sad day that we all knew was eventually coming. Billy Todd has been one of my favorite gentlemen in Quartet Music for many years! I will cherish the long visits we had at GOGR, NQC and when the Echoes were in TX. I am praying for Billy's family, the DEs, the Florida Boys, and the Quartet World. You will be missed Billy!

What a legend!! I had the honor of feeling in for Billy several years ago when he had to go into the hospital. That is how I first met the Dixie WEchoes. From that time on he was a total gentlemen. He always had encouraging words ande a wonderful smile. he was the most underated bass singer in all of gospel music, and will truly be missed. Thank you all for your prayers and support for Billy Todd's Family. His, Pat

You are right Pat. I grew up listening to him every Sunday morning on the Jubilee. He was one of my early influences. A great pioneer in the gospel music industry. One of the very Best Bass singers to walk on a stage. He will be missed...

Did he leave the Dixie Echoes because of the early stages of Alzheimer's? Or did that come on after he retired?

Billy was in the very early stages of the disease when he came off the road. However, that's not the reason he came off. His wife, Jane, had retired and he wanted to stay home with her and enjoy some traveling and working in his yard. Anyone who knew Billy knew that he absolutely loved to work out in his yard when he had the chance. I know I enjoyed every minute I ever got to spend with Billy Todd. He was an incredible figure in Gospel Music and truly believed every word he sung.

He WILL be missed.

Billy was a great guy. We had an opportunity to sit and talk with him at length just before he retired. We both at one time worked for the same employer, USPS. It was nice to be around him and talk. He certainly will be missed. He sang with two great groups during his life time. Our prayers are with the family.

I used to watch him on the Gospel Jubilee. It was always on at our house when we got ready to go to Sunday School and Church. I finally got to see him in person a few years ago in Fairfield, IL, with the Dixie Echoes. He was a classy bass singer and gentleman.

After he came off the road, he helped out Howard Rutland and sang a little with the Bibletones from Gulfport, Miss.

Billy Todd was a distinguished gentleman and nothing but a class act. What a tremendous talent and huge loss to Gospel Music. One of the last bass legends of his era has now gone home to be with the Lord. He will be missed.
