A few old threads have been revived for no good reason, lately.

I just want to remind everyone that bumping is not allowed--even if you type something besides the word "bump."

If a thread has not been posted to for several months, please do not revive it just to bring it to the front page.

Thank you.

Wasn't the rule that we could make a post if it was a new contribution to the discussion at hand?

That, or we're to start an all new one.....with a "Take Two" on it or something.

Yes, that is the rule. However, that is not what was happening.

What was happening was a rather transparent attempt to revive old threads with lots of posts so they would not be purged and people's post counts would not drop

OK.

To my knowledge, the only threads I "bumped" were threads I thought I could make a significant contribution to *and* threads that weren't that long to begin with (a few pages max).

But I will try to be even more careful to only bump threads that will still be of an ongoing interest.

(The only day I did any reviving of old threads was a day I was a few posts short of an SG yahtzee. )

I know I brought the Young Folks Thread back to the front... but that's it.

I try to not revive 'dead topic' threads.

FYI, I promise I'm not bumping. I've been busy writing a thesis and haven't been on in a while so I'm just trying to catch up on what's been posted.

The solution is simple. Just purge a thread after 30 days or something similar. It gets confusing when reviewing whether it is new or old. If the topic is that good, let it come up again with new info.

We do purge--but it is after one year
