I have been in ministry for about 10 months now at a church that I have never felt welcomed or fully comfortable. I inquired about another ministry position in another church and now that church would like to interview me. My prayer has been from the beginning, "Lord move, or move me" I have asked Him to change my heart or my situation to somehow gain peace. When we came here I thought of it as a step of faith and thought the discomfort would wane, but it hasn't. I understand that "comfort" isn't the goal, but what do I make of this other church wanting to talk to me. I want to be obedient to God (move when he says move etc.) I don't want to move because I don't feel comfortable and I don't want to not move because I am leery of making a mistake. What do you think?

I think if you are currently un-called, un-comfortable and un-useful, you should be honest with your current Church and step down. Then you can in good faith seek a position elsewhere. If you are currently struggling to find out if you belong where you are, no other offers should enter your picture. Calling is not about comparison. You need to find out if you are currently misplaced or simply called to do a difficult thing. Once you know that, you will be at peace, even if you hear about other opportunities. Either thing is fine -- but it is not honourable to 'tread water' in one Church if you are pretty sure that you don't belong there and are hoping to move on. Therefore it is not honourable to go for interviews while you retain your current position (unless you have informed your current Church of your intent to move on and you are sort of filling-in as they seek their next pastor and you seek your next position).

Very well stated, pbaribeault! While I am not in the same position as the OP, your comments are applicable for my situation as well. Thank you!!!

Have you signed a contract at the church where you are currently serving...and what are the specifications for amount of notice required by either party to end the contract? I believe it is wrong to speak to another church as if you are under no contract when in fact you are.

Hello livingwaterbottle From what you said, your current assignment may be a preparation time. So, take what you've learned, both good and bad, and find a place where the Lord brings peace to your heart.
