I collect old postcards. I have a card with a puzzle that I have not been able to figure out. Here is a picture of a school in Nebraska with old cars. What is the structure to the left of the school? Someone suggested tornado siren, but we're not sure. I'm from upstate NY. Photo

I'm guessing it's a bell.

Thank you! A bell tower is a logical guess. Somebody else suggested it might be a tornado siren. I wrote to the Nebraska Historical Society and the nice lady there said they were baffled too, but their best guess is a bell tower. She said the building might still be standing so she is going to check further. Thanks for your interest. Any other ideas are welcome!

I'm not sure what it is, but then again, I've only visited Nebraska.

Thank you. That is the conclusion I'm coming to also. It must be a Midwest thing. We never saw anything like it here in Upstate NY. Even the lady at the Nebraska Historical Society said she was baffled. So it must have been an old fashion way of doing things, or just not in very many places.

We could not make out the name of the town. Can you read it? We are curious.

The name of the town is Venango , Nebraska. A handwritten note on the back of the postcard says this school is on the outskirts of the town. Whether it is still standing, I do not know for sure. The cars set the time about in the 1930's or 40's.

Thanks! I looked it up and found quote:
Venango is 1 mile from the Nebraska/Colorado border No wonder I've never heard of it, it's clear on the opposite side of the state from Omaha. ( I live close to omaha)
