you think about the pain and anguish Jesus endured for you? This is a question from my bible study. Max Lucado's life lessons, Luke study guide. I know this may have been asked a 100 times already, in a 100 different ways, but I wanted to post this again. I wanted to write my response here, and then ask you if you would like to respond to this question. So here it goes. When I think about the pain and anguish Jesus felt as He endured my punishment, I am humbled. I feel grateful, so grateful that He would go to those lengths for me. I feel unworthy, so unworthy that He would go to those lengths for me. What am I worth that God would come and die in my place? Yet He did. Awestruck is a word I could use. From the incredible beating He took, to the humiliation He must have felt, as those there jeered and cheered for His blood. To know that He could have called legions of angels to come and crush those who persecuted Him, yet He didn't. Why? Because that wasn't the plan. That still would have left us accountable for our sin. Justice would still need to be meted out on all humans. So He quietly, humbly, willingly took our punishment. Took my punishment. He did this so Gods righteous requirements for dealing with sin could be met. But more so, He did this because of His great love for us, for me. Even though it was my sin that put Him there, and even though I drove in the nails. But it wasn't the nails that held Him there, it was love. I don't know if words can express how I feel as I think about what He did. Even as I look back at what I wrote here, it seems so trivial. My only response could be adoration. Devotion to the one who took my place so I could have life. My only actions in response to His actions, can be out of obedience to Him. It is only fair to give my life to the one who gave His life for me. What would I be if I gave any less? Where would I be without what He did for me? Lost, confused, lonely and on a path that leads to destruction. That is where I would be without Jesus. That's where I would be without what He did for me. Thank you just doesn't seem to cut it. I only know one way, and He deserves my all.

How do you feel when you think about the pain and anguish Jesus endured for you? My answer won't be like most answers here. For the longest time I felt so awful because I didn't have any feelings about the pain and anguish Jesus endured for me. To me, it was kind of like a distant issue because it happened forever ago and I wasn't there... The first time I actually felt something about the pain and anguish that Jesus endured was after I watched "The Passion of the Christ" in 2004. I didn't cry during the film, but the next day I couldn't bring myself to go to school and that was unusual for me at the time. The movie just had a sobering impact on me. It was like WOW He did that for me and so many don't know about Him and I need to share Him, but I still wanted to relate to it more... I was at a church in Missouri that I attended while I lived there and we were singing "Above All" by Michael W. Smith... and the line "like a rose trampled on the ground, He took the fall and thought of me above all..." just hit to the center of my heart and I felt so utterly grateful for His sacrifice and so unworthy. I can't put to you in words how I related to His moment of pain, but I did... Sorry for writing a book. Pops

Popsi, you remind me of when I took my children to see a "Passion Play" long ago. My son was seven, and up to that time, had shown no interest in G-d. But when he came home, he looked up at me with big eyes and said, "Did they really do that to Him?" I thought he intended, "Did they really do all that to the actor who played Him" that night, and stunned, I started explaining, "No! He was just an actor . . ." but my son stopped me and said, "No! Did they really do all that to Jesus?" I answered, "Yes, they did. That and a whole lot more." He responded, "I want to be saved!" and he collapsed on the floor of the hallway, on his knees, praying.

Honestly, I'm thankful for it, but I don't really think about it that much.

How do I feel when I think about how Christ died for me? I feel a love so tremendous in my heart as I reflect on everything that Jesus went through from the Garden of Gethsemane on. Not only do I feel the love that He had for me, but my response is to live Him in return. My love cannot compare with the love that He showed me on that day, and it often makes me want to give my life for Him in some way. His word tells me to be a living sacrifice to Him, and that is what I try to do yet so often fail to do. Popsi, your mentioning that song makes me want to run to my cd player and stick it in, because I often cry all the way through that song, just as I did while I watched the Passion of the Christ. I cried through almost that entire movie. But it is a joyous and peaceful cry, because when I consider the cross or that song, it moves me to tears every time.

I feel the inadequacy of my humanity because I DON'T feel as I ought. And I know that His pain and anguish for me spells LOVE, plain and simple. I cannot conceive of that kind of love. So I believe that kind of love. And my response is to LIVE LOVED as He would have me.

I feel so honored he felt I was important enough to die for, even when I feel like I am the pile of dog poop people step in. I also feel deeply tormented within, knowing all the pain and suffering he went through to redeem me. When I think about the flogging he endured, I can see the tip of the whip ripping his flesh and the blood dripping from his body, it makes my heart ache so. I cannot fathom what he saw in me that made it worthwhile to sacrifice himself, but there must be something. All of this inspires me to want to live my life for him, in way he intended for me too. It also makes me want to serve him and others and spread his good news to those I come in contact with. He died for me, I will live for him. At one church I attended every Easter they would give everyone in the congregation a little square piece of red construction paper and tell them to write as many of their sins on it that they could. They would then bring in this huge wooden cross and then have each of us pin the paper on the cross. By the time we were done the cross would be completely covered in red paper. It gave us all a very vivid image of our sins that Jesus died for on the cross. When thinking about everyone in world's sins pinned on that cross, it became mind boggling. Afterward we would hold a prayer service and sing praise songs in Jesus's name. The experience was priceless. This little tidbit is a little off topic. While we were gathered, there was this Elder that noticed this 6yr old little girl wearing this beautiful gold shiny cross. He leaned down and told her, "You know Jesus's cross wasn't beautiful and shiny." She looked a little perplexed at what he said and then thoughtfully turned to him and said, " If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come" People laughed so hard, it brought some to tears.

When I think about what Jesus did for me I feel bad because I don't think about it like I know I should. I am glad for posts like this that brings to mind what all our Lord and Savior suffered for us. Words can't express my feelings over that. I love him so much that words escape me. I am so glad that we have a loving God, a forgiving God, and most of all a saving God. Thank you Jesus for all that you did for me and for looking past my insecurities and just accepting me even though I can't and probably never will understand it.

We break bread every Lord's Day. Everytime my Pastor will use the same words 'On the night on which our Lord was betrayed, He took bread, and after He gave thanks, He broke it and He gave it to His disciples saying "Take, eat, this is my body broken for you........." ' My thoughts during this lead-in to our own breaking of bread are always vivid scenes of the suffering He endured in order to give me life. I think of His broken body, the lumps of flesh gouged from His back; His blood soaked face from the cruel crown of thorns on His head; the nails which pierced Him and held Him on the cross. And yet He endured it all for me and for you. I cannot help the tears which fill up in me when I think of His enormous suffering. I cannot begin to comprehend the love which led Him to say "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do..." I am humbled and cannot express on this keyboard the emotions that overwhelm me when I consider these things. However, I will borrow the some of the words from 2 hymns which may attempt to convey this love: How deep the Father's love for us, How vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure How great the pain of searing loss, The Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the chosen One, Bring many sons to glory. and See from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down! Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a gift far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all. Thank you Lord. I am yours.

I feel unworthy first of all I also feel a bit guilty,I mean I know we are all born with a sinful nature and the guilt for that goes back to Adam & Eve, but I guess..I dont know, there is just a feeling of guilt or shame. I am also in awe of the tremendous love He's showing us I also feel sad that it ever had to be that way (but understand Gods plan) Some other feelings.. Sobered Humble Affirmed Grateful Love
