Last year, I lost 45lbs. by eating healthy and exercising. But earlier this year, I fell and broke my tailbone, which made it impossible to exercise. In no time I put on 20 lbs. Recently, I decided that rather than wait around to see how much weight I can gain until I can exercise, I would diet. I have never done a diet plan before until now. I decided on the cookie diet. I have been on it for a little over 2 weeks and have lost almost 10 pounds. Is anyone else out there doing the cookie diet?

I don't know. This sounds like a fad diet. I would stay away because these diets have been proven to be harmful. For instance, many people who start on fad diets have some success but when they stop the diet because they have lost weight, they regain more weight than they lost. If a diet causes you to loose more than 1 or 2 pounds a week, that spells trouble. As a general rule, steer clear of diets or diet products that do any of the following: Claim to help you lose weight very quickly (more than 1 or 2 pounds per week). Remember, it took time for you to gain unwanted weight and it will take time to lose it. Promise that you can lose weight and keep it off without giving up "fatty" foods or exercising on a regular basis. If a diet plan or product sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Base claims on "before and after" photos. Offer testimonials from clients or "experts" in weight loss, science or nutrition. Remember that these people are probably being paid to advertise the diet plan or product. Draw simple conclusions from complex medical research. Limit your food choices and don't encourage you to get balanced nutrition by eating a variety of foods. Require you to spend a lot of money on things like seminars, pills or prepackaged meals in order for the plan to work. http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/healthy/food/improve/784.html If I were you, I would just eat a healthy, balanced diet. Go for about 5 to 10 servings of fruits and vegetables daily, eat lots of protein, eat whole grains, drink healthy liquids. I highly recommend green tea, since studies have shown that just drinking a few 8 oz cups a day can help you to burn 80 calories a day. That may not sound like much, but over the course of a year, that is 29,200 calories! You loose a little over 8 pounds a year just by drinking green tea alone without doing much else. But of course you want to eat healthy and exercise in addition to drinking green tea. You should be getting all your nutrients from your diet. All fad "diets" are very limiting in what you can eat or will claim that you can loose this much weight in such short time. The cookie diet does just that. Even though it was created by a physician, that does not mean he is correct. He says basically you eat 6 of his cookies a day and then only dinner. No breakfast, no lunch. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and no one should be skipping any meals. Be very weary. It takes time for you to gain weight, it will take time for you to loose weight. There is no fast remedy. Just eat healthy and you will be fine. Soli Deo Gloria, Jessica

I lost 45 pounds last year eating healthy, Lots of fruits and veggies, which I love. Lean meat only 3 times a week and whole grains. That is my normal diet. However, when I broke my tailbone I gained 20 pounds because I could not exercise. My diet stayed the same, but I still gained weight. It was a very hard decision to go on a fad diet. I have never done one before, but I saw the weight coming on and no way to get rid of it. I chose the cookie diet because it is done under the watchful eyes of a Dr. who I see weekly. I am not someone who normally struggles with their weight, and I am not one that diets all the time. On the contrary. I just saw no other way this time. The reason I started this thread is to see if there are others who have chosen this route, for whatever reason. ~ Blessings

I would think that if you get results, when you go back to eating regular food, you will have to watch your calories and make sure you slowly up them as the days and weeks go on so that your body can adjust and make sure you exercise, or your body will consume all of those extra calories and store them as fat. That is what you have to watch out for with those diets. You restrict your calories for so long that when you go back to eating normal, your body starts putting the weight back on again. But if you do it slowly, it should be fine.

But if you do it slowly, it should be fine. Yes, I have lost over 10 pounds. I am more than halfway to my weightloss goal. I just went and bought size 8 jeans yesterday because everything was falling off. My prediet way of eating was great. I just could not exercise(I broke my tailbone in March), so I gained 20 lbs. Since I have been on the diet, I have started exercising with very little pain, so, I am hoping to be able to keep the weight off through exercise. I am 43, so really the only way to kick start my metabolism is through exercise. The diet has been difficult to follow for a couple of reasons: I love fruit, it was a big part of my diet. Absolutely no fruit allowed on this diet. You eat a huge portion of lean protein at dinner. I normally have meat 3 times a week, and a smaller portion than the diet requires. I miss my grainy bread. I had a piece of toast everyday for breakfast. I miss that. The positive things about this diet: I am never hungry. You only have to plan one meal a day(dinner), which makes it easy. The cookies are very portable. This makes it easy for people on the go. I am losing weight and inches.

I guess I'm on a cookie diet... I eat two cookies for breakfast every day. Either peanut butter or chocolate chip.

I like nutter butters, but I don't think those are the type of cookies we are talking about here. But it would be nice wouldn't it? Actually, if you did want to diet and eat only cookies, you can if you count your calories. It just isn't healthy. LOL

Do they at least taste good? I mean are they worthy of being called a cookie?

Well, I do eat cookies in moderation from time to time, but I wouldn't say I'm on a cookie diet. It's not something I'd try.

You can taste what little chocolate is in the chocolate chip cookies which is nice and there are dried cranberries and blueberries in the other ones. Roberta- I never thought that I would do a diet like this either. I really do not recommend it unless there is just no other choice. I saw the weight coming on and could not think of any other way to get it off, since I could not exercise. All things considered I am glad I did it. I would hate to go into the holiday's with 20 pounds of extra weight on. No doubt I would have easily added to it. Now, I will be thinking twice before I have a second helping, or when heaping portions on my plate.

No fruit, no grains and lots of meat? This sounds like a recipe for high cholesterol among other health problems.

No red meat or pork. But I agree, this is not a diet to do long term. I only needed to lose 20 lbs. For any more than that, I would not recommend this diet.

I don't think I'd even recommend it then. I am sorry that you got stuck in a situation where you are unable to exercise and that has caused some unwanted weight gain. However, I'm not sure that fad diets, even short-term are a good idea unless you're consulting with your own personal physician.

I was unwilling to gain any more weight, that is the only reason I did it. The reason I started the thread was to see if anyone else was already on the diet, so we could compare notes so-to-speak, not to recommend it.

I had to go back on a diet again, but my only way to lose weight is to totally restrict my calories AND lots and lots of exercise. It is hard, but that is the only thing that works for me. I do try to cut my dinner portions in half and if I eat during the day, I make sure to do ten minutes on my stair stepper to get my metabolism going. They do say that if you exercise in short bursts throughout the day, you keep your metabolism at a good rate. But I know you are not able to exercise. Your cookies sound like they have fruit in them, and I am willing to bet that they have veggies or veggie juice in them too. But like I said before, when you go off, you are going to have to make sure to watch your calories and slowly let your body adjust to a new way of eating so it doesn't store everything as fat.

hi Waiting, Congrats on your present weight loss. Nice seeing those Size 8s again isn't it? I along with others would caution you to be careful when you go back to a normal diet-keep up the exercise and I would check with your doctor about when you could begin weight training. quote:
Since I have been on the diet, I have started exercising with very little pain, so, I am hoping to be able to keep the weight off through exercise. I am 43, so really the only way to kick start my metabolism is through exercise. I am 44, and I have been able to go from a size 14 to a size 6 by simply altering my eating habits and exercising regularly. I have been weight training for a few years now, and I eat 6 times a day, and have had no problem maintaining my size. Middle aged spread IS NOT inevitable-it can be counteracted by regular exrcise and healthy dietary habits.
