Israeli President Shimon Peres said this: There is no longer any way that any white man can claim superiority, nor any black person feel discrimination. We are the same people, and this election is a great statement to that effect. Do you beilieve that's true?

I believe that now there is absolutely no excuse for black people to say that they are discriminated against. Obama has blown that argument out of the water. It is my sincerest hope that people will begin to see each other as human beings rather than skin color. We have that opportunity as a nation to make it happen, IF we will put down our prejudices and bigotry and focus more on loving our brothers and sisters.

Whites can not make any claim to superiority based on what God's word is. We are all the same people, made in His image. Blacks, Asians, Latinos, etc, CAN still experience discrimination when it is practiced against them. As Christians can also.

So is that why Jesse Jackson was crying last night? Because he is out of a job now? Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Even in this election. BUT. We cannot say that the "white man" is why we aren't successful: though I've always HATED those excuses.

The Republicans need to get together and figure out a better strategy (hey, return to conservative/less government standards) and Jesse needs to just disappear into oblivion. There are much better equipped people to lead the cause for racial equality now than old Jesse.

Hopefully Sharpton will fade away as well. Desparately trying to find positives in all this.

They try to make things that AREN'T about race civil rights issues.

Yes, Jesse was crying because he was remembering that comment he made According to the stats the most crime comitted against blacks are from blacks. lets hope the Barrack is not going to carry on that tradition by his new position. Perhaps thats why Jesse was crying Bad joke.

LG, Huh? And most crimes comitted against whites are by whites.. And most serial killers are white males in their 30s or 40s... So what's your point? Anyway, I agree with most everyone here. Insecurities won't just fade away for anyone- white or black. The President can't purge people's minds or hearts. It definitely is a statement about what can be achieved.

If I could offer an irreverent reference to Carlos Mencia's stand up performance, "Performance Enhanced(?)," American can finally feel at eased to do the following (to sort of paraphrase his jokes): -fire unqualified workers, used to fulfill the oft-debated/dubious racial quotas -allow even white comedians to comfortably ethnic humor (or just ANY comedian of any color, creed, etc...), now that the race card seems to be officially (acknowledged) to be dead, i.e. people can say black/African-American jokes, or perhaps have an Asian-American president, so as to tell Asian jokes, etc... ...AND that's provided the latter is done NOT in a mean-spirited, racist manner! But that's my theory on Mencia in a nutshell...

Sure there are a few, but they are not the average white man. I will go so far as to say that many blacks are more prejudiced against whites than whites are prejudiced against blacks. There are mean people in this world and if they do not dis-like you for your race, they may not like you because you are fat, or ugly, or poor, or whatever ridiculous reason they can think of.

There will always be racism as long as people are on this Earth, but .... . That almost reminds me: would gangsta rap artists soon follow Jesse's eventual demise/cultural irrelevancy, now that Obama is proof that racism doesn't have as much a stranglehold on America as say, 3-5 decades ago? Something tells me Ludicris (and possibly Nas) may be facing an eventual, shark-jumping moment in their careers... or at least a a circling-the-drain phase, since there's not much of "Da Man" putting them down--NOW that they're congratulated as, "You da man! You da man!

That is a very-overlooked yet under-stated point you made. As much as some blacks want to talk about racism, the race that is hurting the blacks the most are the blacks. I would ask what is worse, a white man calling a black man an n-word or a black man killing a black man?

Oh, for Good Night! When are we ever going to grow up and realize that no election should be about color or gender? It shocks me that Americans, who have dealt with this for AEONS, are still so either impressed or influenced by the color of someone's skin! The man is approximately half black and half white! How in the WORLD does that make him BLACK????? quote:
ORIGINAL: deliveredarling I believe that now there is absolutely no excuse for black people to say that they are discriminated against. Are you serioous? Does anyone really think that having a half-black President is either an indicator that prejudice has ceased or that it is going to?
