I was cleaning up my "Man Cave" the other night and stumbled across some old cassettes. Now, my "Man Cave" is my tackle room, located on the backside of my garage near my boat. My wife prefers I keep that stuff away from the living quarters (upstairs). I also keep my "old" music there along with my guitars and amps. I ran across an old cassette of the Brady family (Jim Brady). I would say Jim was 12 or 13yrs old at the time. He & I are close to the same age. The song selections included the following: I Enjoy The Trip, Look For Me, Beulah Land, Evergreen and some others I can't remember at this time. Jim and his family would come to our church a couple of times a year. His dad was an evangelist and the family would sing. Jim was a true tenor at that time. He could flat hit those high notes! I remember after a Friday night service, some of the guys decided to stay late, play some music and sleep in the missionary guest quarters. We decided we would form a quartet. At that time, The Singing Americans were the hottest thing going with their new live release in Ashland, Ky. at the Paramount Theater. The line-up was Ed Hill, Mike English, Dwayne Burke and Rick Strickland. So, we thought that's who we would be. Jim's brother was to be Dwayne, me Ed Hill, a buddy of mine would be Rick Strickland and Jim would sing Mike's part. We decided to sing as many of the songs as we could. We tryed most of them, I Wouldn't Miss Heaven For The World, Home, and I Bowed On My Knees, etc. After seeing the sunrise the next morning, we almost got it right! I have to say, looking back and remembering Jim's voice, he could flat sing the lead part with no problem. We grew older, voices change, etc. Still to this day, Jim is as smooth as they come! As you know Jim is married to Melissa (Missy) Schuler. We called her Missy in our younger years. Melissa is also a daughter of an evangelistic family. Her dad, Jim would preach and she would join him and her mother to form a trio. To this day I still remember a song her family sang, I actually think Melissa wrote it. Where The Lily Blooms was the title. Hers is a couple of lines from that song: .......The storm clouds drove me to the valley .......And the valley brought me to my knees .......And there I found the Lily of my valley .......Far more precious than all the world to me. You would have to hear the song to appreciate it. Powerful! For you Jim Brady fans, I thought you would like this. Retired Bass Player

Hey, Actually, Connie Hopper wrote that song. It was on the LP that was recorded at the Jubilee at Winkler's Grove Baptist Church in Hickory, NC. (BTW, the flip side of the LP featured Phil Hoskin's sermon, 'The Heavenly Porter".) Connie's caring friendship and that song got my Mom through a bout with breast cancer-- That was OVER 20 years ago, and BOTH of these ladies are still going strong!! PTL! Speaking of The Brady Family and The Shuler Family-- there was another pretty popular evangelistic family during that era... The Roger Mullins Family. That's where Buddy Mullins got his start, too. I know there are some families like that today (meaning that sing & preach revivals & crusades), but there just doesn't seem to be as many as back in the 70s & 80s. Or am I just out of that loop anymore? BTW, Bass Player, What part of GA are you from? Seems like I should know you. I'm near Six Flags. PM me sometime.

jchaz, Yes, you know me. We have crossed paths many times throughout the years. I will PM you. I live in Marietta, Ga. Roger Mullins...........brings back fond memories of Jubilee at the Glen Haven Baptist Church back in the '80's. Buddy Mullins and his family would lead the music during that week of revival. If I remember correctly, Sandy Payton (Jason Waldrop's mother in-law) was the organist at that time and her husband John was the music leader. Ralph Easterwood was the pastor but, Randy Hardeman was pastor emeritus during those years, just having retired. Wow jchaz, what memories! Retired Bass Player

Jim seems like a great guy and the three of them seem to really enjoy each other. I can imagine that it would be VERY difficult to spend as much time together as these groups do if there was a personality clash. Their voices are awesome together. I hope they sing together for a very long time!
