The Old Testement tells us that Joseph had eleven brothers (the ten that sold him into slavery, and then Benjamin who was born afterwards). Is there anything in scripture that states that these were the only children Jacob ever had, or is it possible that he had sisters as well?

To me, it doesn't seem that he would've since that would imply that there were decendents of Abraham through Jacob who weren't part of the twelve tribes who were lead out of Egypt during the Exodus.

The only daughter of Jacob(Leah's)mentioned by name is Joseph's half-sister, Dinah. We can assume Jacob had other concubines and perhaps other daughters but scripture only 'counts' his offspring from his two wives and their handmaids since handmaids were extensions of the wives in that culture. Genesis 34 tells the sorry history of Dinah and the brothers' response probably to avenge their mother(Leah).

Sounds interesting, but I don't know on what basis we could make such an assumption. Care to share more on that?

Regards.

Well the mere fact both wives seemed be to 'accepted' in the lineage of the twelve. Either Jacob didn't indulge himself(seems unlikely to me)or legal marriage was the benchmark(betrothal)regardless of how many wives.

Okay, I understand. Was just wondering about the assumption, and it does not seem to hold that Jacob would have had other concubines. As far as we can see from the text, only four women were recorded in reference to Jacob's connubial relations - his wives Leah and Rachel; and their maids Zilpah and Bilhah (Gen. 30).
