Yes, dealt with them for many years in this city.

What is your question?

Welcome Joshua, good to have you here.

I spent many years familiar with the MC that was operating in and around Chicago some years ago.. are they still heavy into stunts where the kids tear phone books in half and break baseball bats over parts of their body?

Supposedly to demonstrate to others that they somehow possess supernatural physical strength?

Are they still heavy in "Word of Faith" type teachings and practices?

I love Master's Commission! They are an awesome ministry. When my husband was in Bible College, the church we went to at the time had a MC group there, so we got to see some of the things they did. If I hadn't have gotten married right out of high school and I had known about them at the time, it would have been something I would have really gotten a lot out of.

The only thing about Master's Commission that I had a problem with was that sometimes I felt that they took all the ministry opportunities in the church. Well, not all of them, but there were many things I wanted to be involved in but I couldn't, because the Master's Commission kids did that.

My observation [albeit from a little distance] is that they attract a group of committed young people, willing to serve.

However, it does seem a little too intense and I wonder how people settle back into normal life at the end of their year - how do you find that works?

Yes,
I have had the pleasure of working with the Master's Commission ministry for a few years. The ministry as I know it is led by Pastor Richard Moore of Harvest Church. They have a base set up in Brasil where young adults are mentored and trained to be ministry leaders. They have assisted my mentor programs with EGUSD by providing afterschool programs for elementary children. The Master's Commission ministry is an awesome outreach program for young adults interested in ministry work.

I am hoping Joshua or someone else that was involved in the inside of MC could answer my questions.

I've seen and heard of them. I wasn't impressed. I was a new Christian and not sure how the whole thing connected with Christ.

Each Masters Commission seem so different from the other, I don't think it's fair to put them all into one basket.

They must be different, because the Master's Commission I am familiar with was extremely focused on Christ.

They travelled around and did a lot of human videos. The one they did the most often depicted the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. They presented the gospel everywhere they went. They did servant evangelism--they went to poor neighborhoods and knocked on people's doors and asked how they could serve them. They cleaned up yards and fixed windows and did whatever people asked them to do, and shared Jesus with them. They went through an intense Bible study program, and by the end of a 3-year period had enough Biblical education to become ordained if they wished. They did kid crusades in underpriviledged neighborhoods. They volunteered in the church in all aspects of ministry. It was such a neat group of kids, and I have a great admiration and respect for all they did.

hey earthless so sorry i have actually been in the hospital lately but to answer your questions the phone book thing and bat thing are just tools...actually we use what ever we can to attract a crowd just to tell them about the Lord....right now a big attraction we use is WATER BALLOON FIGHTs...YAY! lol, but we bring free food and games and skits to neighborhoods and spend time with them and build kingdom relationships with them at the end once we have given an altar call we end the event with a water balloon fight of over one thousand balloons :)

DENIMDIVA i am so sorry you had a poor experience with the MC's yes every MC is different just as every person is, but every affiliated MC is about one thing creating an enviroment to train up a generation of world changers so that they can know God and make Him known....they do fill up many of the ministries in the church but thats what a church takes on when they build an MC the program is specifically designed to train ministers to be fishers of men and Disciple the students

I wouldn't say mine was a bad experience, it just didn't seem like a Christian event to me. There were people who made decisions for Christ.

JG,

Thanks for responding - but you didn't touch upon something that always concerned me greatly about MC - when I was dealing with the midwest chapters of MC they were heavy into Latter Rain/Word of Faith teachings and claims. Things which are unbiblical and some downright heretical. Is that the running theme for all MC chapters/groups? Or?

Also, is the biblical Gospel presented at the end of those water balloon fights?

the gospel is presented right before the water balloon fights...after we have our altar call and pray for the kids and right before we leave the community we end our stay with the balloon fight....its pretty cool even the parents get involved...as for the latter rain/ faith....i dont see how that unbiblical but know thats not our focus when we go out our focus is salvation and relationships we want to get them saved and then get them involved with church so they can stay saved and grow in the Lord...Faith is a subject that we teach on but no one subeject is focused on more than another in our discipleship we just train....but faith is biblical and we do teach how to use it...i hope that answered your question if not please go into detail bro ,aybe i didnt understand it

You don't see how it is unbiblical or you're not informed as to why they are heretical?

Latter Rain/Word of Faith is not about faith in the Lord. It is a set of teachings that have masked themselves as being Pentecostal in flavor but they are not - they are New Age/heretical beliefs wrapped up for Christian consumption.

The skin of the truth stuffed with a lie. I recommend you read and study about it because it is rampant in a lot of western Christian circles. As a matter of fact we have a lot of excellent threads in the 'Church' sub-forum where it is more than covered. Have you ventured over their?

I dealt with MC for over 5 years and their teachings were classic Word of Faith/Dominion/RHEMA/Latter Rain/Kingdom Now garbage. It always saddened me greatly to see that being taught to those young and impressionable teens.

Does anyone know if MC is a ministry of the Assemblies of God or not?

I've had dealings with three different chapters and they all were A/G. There training and schooling was done back then through the Berean School of the Bible, which most A/G people seeking credentials went through if they did not go to an A/G college.

I don't believe that all of them are WOF.

The two of the three that I knew about wasn't. My Brother-in-law got his ministry training through MC. He is now an Associate Pastor in a church. I had a good friend that was the director of one. And the one he led was anything but WOF. They were strictly evangelistic and what would be called servant evangelism.

The final one I knew about really had some good fruit in their ministry. I remember they had some gang-bangers saved through their outreach and reached out to the inner city and did a lot of good projects. One of the girls in the youth group that I was a Youth Pastor of went and joined that MC and she would often tell me about the stuff they did on her visits back to the church. I don't know if they were WOF or not, but the message they presented was strictly evangelistic. This group did the strength stuff, but the other two I knew about didn't. They would do street evangelism, go out, set up, sing, hand out tracks and do open air preaching and things like that.

Then during the week they would spend so many hours in classes with the A/G Berean curricullim.

I can tell exactly what MC it was - the one that operated out of the Midwest - the one operating in the city of Chicago, etc..

Masters Commission is a great program and I would definitely stand behind their ministry. I was a home opener for a few years.
