Presidential hopeful John McCain filed suit against Va. election board. McCain claims they did not mail the absentee ballots early enough in order for the military who are overseas to return them in time.

I don't think this is a new problem. Seems like I recall hearing something about military overseas absentee ballots not getting in on time last election cycle. The states really should mail those out much earlier than they do!

It is not a new problem. However, for McCain it could be the difference in winning Virginia or not. Since Va. has a lot of military who are mostly voting for McCain.

I think the fact that it happened before only makes it WORSE and McCain should be up in arms about this in every state and every instance where anyone or anything is getting in the way of deployed military to vote. This is disgraceful.

What do you guys think about federalizing and standardizing our election processes and voting machines? It seems like this nonsense just keeps going on. How hard is it to send a pdf to the printer's and get a bunch of interns to stuff envelopes? How hard is it to take an ATM machine and make it record votes instead of financial transactions? Yet they keep screwing it up.

I think we need to do something different, there shouldn't have to be lawsuits filed just to get ballots to the military.

Your post seems off topic as this is about military absentee votes not mainland voting.

Btw , John Stossel has already covered that if you want to read about it.

Well, I was speaking to the whole of election debacles.

Well, there goes that idea. Maybe one of these days, somebody will care enough to do it right.

Well guess who benefits if those votes are not counted?

Are Democrats in charge of this process in Virginia?

Yeah I saw that coming. Regardless I feel that absentee votes need to count. I also agree with Dan that there has got to be an easier and better way for these men and woman to get them in sooner. Heck our technology is so much better than it was 10 years ago. My friend can send deer meat to her husband over there and it still be good enough to cook and eat but we can't get there ballots over here in time?
