Has anyone ever dealt with Perilla Mint (also called Beefsteak?) It's really thick in parts of our pasture this year. We're getting ready to spray it, I was just wondering if anyone else has dealt with it successfully and can offer suggestions. We know it's toxic to livestock. The animals all steer very clear of it. THIS is the plant in question.

Just to animals, apparently there are a lot of human uses for it, though! It seems like a beneficial herb for people. But it'll kill animals.

EEk! Our goats haven't bothered it so far, but we're moving them to a different part of the land this weekend anyway. Then we'll annihilate the weed with some Round Up, LOL. So weed-eat it, huh? We'll see if we can kill it and if it starts springing back up we'll knock it down again.

Careful with the pesticides/herbicides. They're estrogenic, so be sure whoever sprays wears a mask!!!!! Try the weedeater first.

It's too rampant, Mom, it has to be sprayed. It's completely taking over.

I'm REALLY curious why it's poisonous to animals but not people. I wonder what's different about our systems. That's really interesting. And that being so, I wonder if you planted it (in raised beds to contain it) around the perimeter of a garden, it would keep the beasties out. Hmmm. I have a friend who would really benefit from that if it would.

Parts of it look like an ocean of this stuff.
