In our Men's Fellowship tonight we were in the Book of Joshua chapter 10. In verse 13 it mentioned the book of Jasher. Does anyone know what this book is about. It is not in the Bible and i am guessing it is some kind of history book. No one in our study really knew much about it. We use the KJV.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

If you google it.. it is on line.. one definition I found is

This is one of the apochrypal Books of Jasher. There are several (as many as five) separate works by this title, all composed much later than Biblical times. This particular one is a translation of a Hebrew book printed in 1613. Sepir Ha Yasher, the Hebrew title of this book, means the 'Book of the Upright', or 'the Upright or Correct Record'. This title was misread as 'Jasher', and at some point Jasher was treated as a proper name; however the pronoun 'the' (hebrew 'ha') never preceeds proper names.
There is also another spurious Book of Jasher, published 1750, in which Jasher is treated as the name of the author.
This text covers much of the same ground as the traditional Mosaic books of the Bible, from the creation of the world to the death of Moses, albeit with several minor variations.

The footnote in the NIV Study Bible describes the Book of Jassher as an early account of Israel's wars written in poetic form. This extra-canonical writing is also referenced in 2 Sam 1:18. A similar work titled "The Book of the Wars" (Num 21:14) is no longer in existence today.

There are several extra-biblical sources mentioned in the Bible. Some of these would be:
Book of Jasher (Jashar)
The Book of the Wars of the Lord
Iddo the Seer
The Book of Enoch
The Chronicles of the Kings of Judah (as well as its counterpart for Israel).
Basically, these are books that the authors referenced for specific reasons. Personally, I wouldn't trust these books as anything other than History. Do I think they are inspired? Not really... While I can't say for sure (having not read them), I think the fact that they were never part of the Jewish Canon is pretty good evidence that they aren't all that profitable.
