"So what if he is the one?", a friend of mine asked me. "One what?", I replied. "You know," she said, "the chosen one". "The chosen one?" I queried. "Chosen by whom?" "Chosen by God, silly", she continued, "Like in the Bible". I responded, "I think that job has already been taken." This conversation actually took place, and it highlights a very dangerous problem. The woman I was talking to thought that the Bible prophesied of the coming of a chosen one who would bring the world together in peace and harmony, one who would overthrow the shackles of economic and social injustice and forge a new perfect society out of the old corrupt one. Even though she believed herself to be a Christian, she was looking for a "chosen one" who would arise and bring about world peace. In short, she had been watching too much TV and reading too little Scripture, which frankly scares the bejeebies out of me. My friend's understanding of Biblical prophecy was formed primarily from what she had seen on television and in the movies. She honestly believed that the Scriptures prophesied of the coming of a new messiah. Not Jesus, mind you, for even though she said she actually believed in Jesus, or at least what she knew of Him on a spiritual level, she thought there was supposed to be another, more worldly, political messiah to come. I asked her where on earth she could have ever gotten such an idea. As it turns out, a friend of hers is Jewish and once told her of the two messiah's: the first would be the son of Joseph who would be the suffering servant and eventually be killed (who she thought was Jesus), and the other would be the son of David who would be a conquerer and eventually restore the throne of David, (who she thought the new guy would be). She had also seen dozens of movies which described just such an individual, movies such as the Matrix, Highlander, King Arthur, The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia...etc, all which have at their core mystical prophecies fortelling the coming of "the one", who would be some great king or individual who would unite mankind and restore the golden age, thus bringing in lasting peace and properity to the earth. In short, my friend was not looking for the second coming of Jesus Christ who would arrive in the clouds with the sound of trumpets and great glory, but rather she was looking for some new individual who would arrive on the earthly scene and lead the world into peace. And that is what scared me, for it is exactly what the anti-Christ will claim to do. When I tried to explain to my friend that Jesus was the son of Joseph and the son of David, I could tell that she was disappointed. She really wanted a new messiah. In fact, she believed he already exists and she truly hoped that he was going to change the world for the better. I told her Jesus already did change the world for the better. But she said that was spiritual, and besides, that was a long time ago. Obviously, she did not see much evidence of the resurrection in her life or in the world around her. And whose fault is that? Ours as Christians, for we have done a poor job of demonstrating the joy of Christ and the difference that He makes in our lives when even those who claim to be Christians start looking elsewhere for a new king who will solve our worldly problems. And the worst part of all is that we have not been leading people into a more thorough knowledge of Scripture, because we ourselves are woefully ignorant of its teachings. How many pastors and seminary graduates cannot even name all the books of the Bible? How many can you name? And do you know what words and admonitions they contain? It is not surprising that the world will flock to the anti-Christ. However, it is disheartening, for that means that we as Christians have fallen woefully short in proclaiming the Word of God. Indeed, when Paul talked of the great falling away which would preceed the coming of the lawless one, (see IIThessalonians 2:3) that is exactly what he was referring to: the falling away from the Word of God. "Preach the Word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." 2Timothy 4: 2-4 Christians, we have our work cut out for us, for Satan is already prepping the world for his "chosen one". He began by removing the Bible from the schools and public square. His plan is simple, yet quite diabolical: if people do not know the truth, how will they ever discern the lie? And if people do not know the Scriptures, then they cannot know the truth. In Christ, Ariel

Sounds a little like Islam, because they believe that Christ will return to lead Islam is such a struggle against the world, when they will overcome the gentiles and Jews. Christ in their mind is of course a prophet...not the Son of God. Bob

Greetings FurGodWurLivin That is precisely whom I thought she was referring to, albeit unwittingly, which prompted me to start this thread. It would appear that a lot of people are looking for as political savior. As Bob and URForgiven pointed out, the Muslims are looking for the Mahdi and Jesus, the prophet. Below is an excellent link on that very subject. Nevertheless, the Jews are looking for the Maschiach ben David (and possible Mashiach ben Joseph as well), while the Budhists are awaiting Lord Maitreya, and certain British Israelites are expecting the return of Arthur, the once and future king. All these groups are looking for a political, worldly savior instead the second coming of Jesus Christ. They are still wanting Barrabus instead of Jesus, and one like Barrabus they shall get. Barrabus was a murderer and a thief, and so will be the anti-Christ, yet the world will flock to him for he will offer them peace and security, prosperity and abundance in the midst of famine and war. Those who lack the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the knowledge of the Holy Scriptures will follow him blindly and gladly take his mark, for he will promise and end to war and hunger and the beginning of a new utopian society, one without political or religious divisions. The following link is an interesting discussion from the Muslim perspective of what changes the Mahdi will institute when he rises upon the world stage. It is well worth the read, for it mirrors the anti-Christ's agenda exactly. http://www.muslimbridges.org/content/view/412/37/ In Christ, Ariel
