Speaking with a coworker (she's Christian), I had mentioned something about all the diverse forms of religion, and she said that the problem wasn't that they all think they are right, but that most of them are wrong. "That's the test," she said. "We come down here to show that we can pick out the right one." Would you say that this is an accurate characterization as you see it, or not?

RELIGION CAN HAVE MANY INTERPRETATIONS, BUT THE WORD OF GOD NEVER CHANGES. IF ONE RUNS ACROSS A RELIGION THAT DOES NOT PREACH/TEACH THE WHOLE WORD OF GOD, IT IS JUST A RELIGION NOT A FOLLOWER OF THE WORD. DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?

Dear Abraxas, Many non-Christian religions have some truth in them. Even if one reads Aristotle or the other Greek philosophers, they addressed certain truths in our society. As to what this lady meant by her comment "We come down here to show that we can pick out the right one," that is worded very poorly. God in His love for His creation, sent His only Son to die for us. By the grace of Christ, grace being a precious gift that is offered to us, we are able to accept Christ's passion, that is, His death on the cross for our sins. And God in turn blesses us with the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit, which indwells us. As children of God, the Holy Spirit begins changing us into the likeness of our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ. It is a most precious and blessed journey, in which we have a living relationship with the Most High God. The Holy Scripture says that Christ "is the image of the invisible God." When we learn of Him, we come to know and partake of His very nature, this Creator of the universe and all that exists. Jesus said, "He who has seen me has seen the Father." The Apostle Peter recognized that Jesus Christ is God Incarnate when he expressed in John ch. 6, ""Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life; and we have believed, and come to know, that you are the Holy One of God." Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the God-man. He is the One who teaches us how to conduct ourselves while here on earth. He is the One who reveals God the Father to us, specifically because He is the image of the invisible God. Other religions may have some good ideas, may stress self-discipline which can be advantageous in some ways, but other belief systems do not reveal our Creator to us. We come to know, love, and serve God through being filled with the Holy Spirit and learning to imitate our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A wise man, C.S. Lewis, once said, "Jesus is either a lunatic, liar, or Lord." Each one of us will have to consider just who Jesus Christ really is. Those who call themselves Christ followers, recognize, believe and know that Jesus Christ is Lord. He, in His love and mercy, has shown me that He is indeed, "The Christ, the Son of the Living God." Now, what say ye, Abraxas? Heavendweller

Hi Heavendweller, I can see where my coworker is coming from--perhaps if it's worded poorly it's because it's difficult to get it right with such nutshell statements. It seems, and if I understand you this is what you're getting at, that the "incorrect" paths, regardless of which and how many truths they contain, will come to naught for a person if they don't manage to pick the right one. So it does kind of boil down to that. (?)

For group relationships too easily become we are right and you are wrong mentality. us against them. so to speak, but when you are in a personal relationship with Christ it is about his love to everyone not just those that think like you. For God's mercy through the cross has been extended to everyone. Just not everyone has come to believe. Better yet not all have come to put their trust in Christ to teach them as heaven dweller eluded to. Being led by the Holy Spirit of God the Father. I do not remember anywhere he said to make it a group choice in your belief. He did say do what they say, but do not do what they do. He was talking about the pharisees and jewish religous leaders. And nothng is new under the sun. Anyway this person to me is advocating their own religion, And the meaning of religion is : what I am doing to get deity to respond to me. Now if I ever get God to respond to me by what I was doing, that would make me God of God God is the creator period and imo we need to respond to God, for we are th creation, not the creator. Again if god responds to me, then I would have created his response thus making me a creator, never of God, yet deceived by my actions, thinking I am somebody I am not. Seek out your relationship with the almighty and he will show you truth, the truth that sets you free indeed. ineffable love

(John 14:6) "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12) "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:17-18) That is what it "boils down to". Those are just the first three verses that came to mind, there are many others. Tim

But I think those verses are exactly what she has in mind. I may have a chance to get her to clarify today, and maybe I'm confused as to whether you all agree with her or not. You don't see her statement in those verses BerianAardvark shared?

Hey love, I guess it depends on who you ask. From nihilo, from God, etc. And right church, denomination, faith, God, again it depends on who you ask. If a person believes that only faith in Christ will save, then that is the "right one" to pick. Any other pick and you get an F. I haven't asked her any more about it but I think that's what she was saying.

Hey Abrax, yes I too think it is what is in the heart that does it, (Christ or no christ) God himself being the true judge, righteous, knowing our hearts purpose, just like the thief on the cross. ( he had truly changed his mind) His heart was known by God and saved, per the words of Jesus WOW. Lot of food for thought here. If the conversation comes up, ask, or if not that is okay, I think wait to be led, by the your inner man, the one in you that is not presumptous, or condeming. Thanks for the reply. love ineffable
