Has anyone read this book? This is absolutely the MOST depressing book I have ever read in my life. I saw the movie and thought I would like the book. I stopped reading it a couple of times but made myself pick it back up. I still didn't finish it though. I was very near the end when I saw a spider crawling across my floor and killed it with the book. I haven't picked it back up since. :)

I agree that it's pretty depressing. I didn't like it much. You'd think at least something would go right in her life!

Wasn't this the movie about how this girl grew up in the 50s and like met a guy, and found out he died in the war, then married some other guy...but the guy that supposedly died in the war wasn't dead at all? haha. I don't know if I explained it right.

Yeah, and she married another guy while the one guy was supposedly dead, and he ended up with severe Alzheimers at the age of thirty, and then after she waits years and years after her old flame shows up for her husband to die, the other guy ends up getting married to someone else. One of her kids ends up in jail, one has terrible health problems and runs off with a guy, and the other dies in an auto accident. Everything goes wrong. Her house even burns down.

Yep, thats the one. My mom didn't really like it. She said it was "alright." But I liked it! But it was sad.

I always thought this book was the polar opposite of "Facing the Giants." In that movie, the message was, "Trust in God and everything will go right" and in this book the message is "Trust in God and everything will go wrong." Real life is somewhere in between. Some things go right, but some things go wrong.
