Need I say more? Well if you've never heard of this man then I guess I'd better. Briefly-he has a nation-wide radio program and several churches worldwide. He is well over 70 years old now and has been an evangelist/preacher since sometime in the 60's,I believe. But the strange part begins when you listen to all he has been through in his lifetime,as if Satan himself is out to get this guy, with help from MANY of his wicked "agents" here on earth,(or in our country at least). And from some of the HUGE world organizations he has "exposed" as Anti-Christ centered,it doesn't surprise me that Satan would want him dead. That is if he is doing a legitimate work in these cases? Which is why I am asking here if anyone has any more in depth knowledge of this ministry, and more solid facts that could either confirm his right standing or expose him as a false teacher or "cult" as he has been called by many. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, DB BTW-His name is pronounced "Alah-mo",different from the ALAMO in Texas. Even though he's headquarted in Texarkana, which is probably just a coincidence...i think?

DB... I wouldn't get too hung up over him or any other preacher. A lot of people get called "false prophets" and "false teachers" for reasons as multifarious as they themselves are. Take a look at this list.... A A Allen, Kathryn Kuhlman, John G. Lake, Oral Roberts, Benny Hinn, Robert Murdoch, Todd Bently... all of these people have one thing in common. Namely, just about the only time you hear anything about them, it is coming from people who hold them up as God's right hand, or the Devil's advocate. All have their quirks, all have their pet doctrines, but all of them would be able to show testimonies of people "who have been blessed" by their ministries (provided they were all alive). There just doesn't seem to be much level-headed reasoning and moderation of opinion when it comes to stuff like this. Good financial mechanics does not a pure ministry make, just as how poor financial mechanics does not a charlatan create. Honestly the best opinion you will get on a ministry is your own... because it is the opinion you are going to respect the most. If you are having trouble formulating an opinion, ask God what He thinks. Since He is the only one that searches men's souls, He should know better than anyone. Adam

I agree that that's a pathetic means of commending any preacher or group. Hundreds of thousands would testify they "have been blessed" by Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses. Many would confess (or would have testified) they "have been blessed" by Jim Jones or David Koresh. Millions would have (and still might) testify that they "have been blessed" by Jim Bakker. But even an elementary level understanding of scriptures should warn us when such individuals or groups misrepresent Truth.

........................ as I said, people in the charismatic moement get called all kinds of names for all kinds of reasons. As I also said, there is a severe lack of moderation of opinion in relation to discussion surrounding these people. DwB, the best advice you will get is what comes from you and God. My general rule of thumb, give no man an open pass to your mind, but don't shut off everyone that you disagree with either. I tend to learn the most from the people I agree with least. Adam

I'm not positive, but I think among Alamo's other false teachings, he also "MAY" be a polygamist. In the late 70's or early 80's he had is deceased wife entombed in an "aquarium" of alcohol because she was supposed to be resurrected. She never rose. He also made the news a couple of years ago in I think Fouke Ar where he has a temple. Seems he felt he own the public street his temple was on, and had armed gaurds accosting people driving past the building.

Adam What's your advice about a false teacher who is involved in child pornography? Would you finally draw the line there or is there something more you could learn from him?

I only live a short ways from the "Alamo" junko, I know about him. He's too close not to hear about him. He's as reprobate as they come. Adam can denounce those who "do know" all he wants. Adam is right that you have to study the Word and show "yourself" approved. But, at the same time, we don't play stupid and ignore the counsel of many who can provide safety in the information given. If you are involved with Alamo, get out. If you aren't, don't. quote:
FOUKE - More than 100 authorities raided the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries compound Saturday as part of a two-year child pornography investigation. From link in above post.

But, at the same time, we don't play stupid and ignore the counsel of many who can provide safety in the information given. Before attacking me too much, please note that (A) I have not defended Tony Alamo. (B) In my previous list I listed both speakers that I disagree with (guys like Murdoch) and have respect for (such as Kathryn Kuhlman). (C) If there is massive ethical error (such as child abuse), I would be more trusting of a newspaper than I would of a fellow Christian. Seeing as how the report on the raid is found in many nationally circulated newspapers, I would avoid this ministry. (D) My first response is not any kind of defense of Tony Alamo because I honestly don't care about him. My response is centered around the fact that most teachers with "odd" beliefs are either held up as God's Right Hand or, as soxfan so eloquently put it, a "Tool of Satan". Moderation of opinion and level-headedness are about as common in the western church as a Meixcan person at a KKK rally. (E) What I said still stands. The best opinion you are going to get is God's... not mine, not rcjames', not earthless', not Lapidoth's, and not Kat_D's. Adam

This is just incredible. quote:
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Seth Calagna recalled lying on the Fort Smith warehouse floor, feeling every strike of the board against his backside as blood oozed onto the winter-cooled concrete. Calagna told detectives months later that John Erwin Kolbeck, an alleged enforcer for jailed evangelist Tony Alamo, paused after 20 strikes to order another ministry member to pull off the 17-year-old's pants and thermals. Kolbeck slammed the wooden board against the teen's underwear and bare skin until the board finally broke, according to a police report. A police detective noted Calagna's offense: "He said he made a sarcastic remark about Harry Potter." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081025/ap_on_re_us/evangelist_child_abuse_2

It's been confirmed by his own followers that Alamo has practice polygamy, and one "wife" was 9 years old. He is being held without bond in Texarkana. At 74, I think this is finally over.

Tony who? This man was also based in Los Angeles too, Susan was his first wife who died a long time ago and had a ranch somewhere in So Cal. Yes, this man runs a cult and yes, he is a bonafied false teacher. As Jon Courson would say, "Run" meaning don't be a fool and don't get caught up into something which will threaten your life, as this ministry has because many who took part has been decived.
