Hey guys,

How many of you trust your friends enough and have chosen friends with good enough character that you wouldn't mind them marrying your sibling or someone close to you?

I tried this test in a conversation with someone and found that almost all of my friends failed the test, except four people.

Four passed with flying colors. Most either miserably failed or I was not ideally happy about, but would accept (so I guess a few more than four). I realize I wouldn't have any say in it, but it's just one of those relationship tests that people bring up.

Fire away!,

Allow?

It does make me laugh, though, 'cause I know a guy who lives in the middle east (but is from here) and he said that if any of his Muslim friends have sisters, they sure haven't told him about them!

What do you mean by test?? Who is being tested??

I married my best friend's older brother. I'm certainly glad she "allowed" me to. It hasn't hurt our relationship any. We're still best friends after 9 years of me being married to her brother. I love being aunt to her children and she loves being aunt to mine! And I'm glad we can call each other sisters now in addition to friends.

As in a mental test. Just a question to see what type of character you feel your friends have. Nothing meant to be terrible, but just a fun question a friend and I had for one another recently.

Oh, yeah! My (few) friends, the ones I've had for years, would be welcome to join my family. I'd be thrilled.
I have lots of acquaintances, and that would have to be individual case by case.

It's worse for me, now: I have a single daughter of marriagable age, and whoa! the stakes just got higher! But then I'm not good buddies with any single guys in their 20s, so it's understandable (yes, I really do want character references from pastors).

I keep thinking it should be the other way around...would you wish your siblings on your friends? LOL

I don't have any siblings, but if I did, they would be truly blessed to be married to the few friends that I have.

Interesting question. But as you say, you can't have say if they did or not.

I think it should be "would you accept a friend marrying your sibling?". In some things it may be a little awkward for awhile, but I see no real problem.

Well, I am the eldest of six, and the only one I would recommend is already married to a sweetheart. The others all have some growing up to do (one literally...she is only 13)

Well, since all my friends and my siblings are married, I would say no I wouldn't "allow" it.

Well...I have a friend that married my brother about a year ago. She and I have been friends for 20+ yrs and at first I thought it was going to be VERY awkward. But....as time went on it hasn't been so bad. You know if you're really good friends with someone and they marry into your family that tends to open up a new can of worms! On both ends because you have secrets with your friends and secrets with your family and sometimes "never the twain shall meet". Which could be a bad thing in most cases. In any event it seems to have worked out fine on the one hand but on the other.....we don't talk as much as we used to either.

Sure, I have friends that I trust enough to marry my sibling...I do not agree with the word allow...because utlimately the decision is between my sibling and my friends...

I think it is none of my business who my friends or my sibling marries. It is strictly a personal matter.

I warn, or even beg, friends of mine not to even ask my sister out! She was married for a little while to a guy I knew, and believe me, I warned him ahead of time what he was getting into.

I respect your honesty, ekserekseez.

I have only introduced my brother to one of my "friends". Actually I did not like her all that much but I thought she could handle my brother.

My brothers (and sister-in-law) no longer even try to introduce me to their friends, Jesus be praised.

No, I wouldn't wish any of my friends to marry my brother yet ---
I have a hard enough time dealing with him!

Considering my friends and my siblings, I would say no. For the most part, my two brothers, one younger and the other a stepbrother and older, and my little sister. None of them are saved and most of the friends I have are all Christians; the non-Christians friends I do have are already involved in relationships. Furthermore, my older brother has too many problems with himself but I wouldn't have any trouble recommending a woman for him, but again, she'd be a Christian woman (not that that would be bad, but Christians are not to marry unbelievers). As for my little sister, I'm old enough to practically be her father (am a father-figure in a way) so that's completely out of the question, unless I meet a great little boy and hide him away until he gets old enough to marry her lol!

The truth is weather you "permit" it or agree or disagree.....they will marry whomever they please. Human nature doesn't usually live their lives by example...most of us have to learn things the hard way. However, sometimes those are the best lessons learned.
Don't you all agree?

My best friends are Christians and my family is not, so right now it would be bad. But, were my family members saved I would be thrilled at the thought of it.

I am the 2nd of 9. My older sister is married, the one right below me is married and than divorced, and the rest are not yet to be wed. Most of them have much more growing up to do. And my brother who is 18 in November still needs to grow up!
