Hey I have another prayer request about the youth group as I said earlier I have applied for youth pastor at my church and there are those that want to change everything we've accomplished up to now with the youth leadership committee They are causing division in the church because they don't like the way we have changed these things. We run things more contemporary now. One of the youth came to me with tears in his eyes Sunday that his dad doesn't want him going to the youth group on Saturdays. This kid tells me his father is so full of pride that he is not allowed to go to church. He would rather his son go to Homecoming or the movies with his girlfriend than youth group on Saturday nights. He said if he wants to have fun it's out there, not in the youth group. Please pray for the kids in our youth group they don't deserve this division or situation. My heart is breaking for them and I only want the best for these kids. Please pray that this youth pastor thing is solved quickly but in a Godly manner.

When my kids were in youth group, this is what the youth pastor did every year and it was very effective. He had a meeting with the kids and their parents to lay out his vision and where they would be going as a group. He talked about ministry opportunities, serving, etc. There was a time for questions and answers and then everyone prayed together for the coming year. I think if parents felt more connected, they might be more cooperative.

The problem is right now we don't have a youth pastor per say it's an acting youth pastor until the church picks a permanent youth pastor then the acting youth pastor will leave since he is an intern at another large church. Right now it's running under a youth leadership committee with that acting youth pastor. We have involved parents alot in our youth group but these parents dont like the fact that we made it contemporary with youth oriented fellowship at the end (video games, board games, cup stacking, etc. etc.) Two of us from the youth group have applied for the position we are both in seminary but that other person that applied wants to change everything that we've accomplished up to this point and he is also one of the ones talking bad about the youth group and the acting youth pastor. I will also need wisdom because I promised this youth that I would talk to his dad.

It's getting better, the Senior Pastor is siding with the youth group he does not want to see any changes occur and wants to see the spiritual and numerical growth of the group continue, also this kid in our youth group came up to me a week later and told me that his parents had a change of heart and that they realized that even though they had issues with the group they could not take it out on their kids so he is now allowed to come back to youth group. Plus things are now moving forward and it seems that God is moving in the youth pastor search they are finally starting to realize the good that has happened the past few months with our youth group. So now whoever gets it they dont want anything to change with the group

I've worked in youth for many years, even while in transition from having a youth minister to a 'youth coach' until God sends us another youth minister. Most imporatntly, is to graps the Senior Pastor's vision for the house and impliment that within in the youth, and all awhile preparing for the parent's to get wacky and be irrational. No one likes change, it's a scary thing, but a very necessary thing. Youth NEED consistency in their lives and youth group should be a constant thing fot them; a safe haven if you will. I feel the frustration, but God is in control. And His will WILL be done.

I would think that whether or not you are being "Picked" on would be whether you are offering a balance of activities to keep the kids engaged and teaching the plain pure Gospel of Jeus Christ. How many sincere proclamations of faith are coming forth from your group? What age is the group? How much repent, accept Christ, and be obedient to Scripture are you teaching? All of that has a great impact on whether you have a youth ministry or a glorified baby sitting service. Thanks RC
