Journey doesn't have an "official statement" about homosexuality, but there's obviously enough freedom in the community for Courtney to wear her beliefs on her shirt.

Courtney's shirt.
Straight Chrisitians for Gay Rights
(My Bible Teaches Social Justice)

Tony Jones, The New Christians, pp. 198, 197

So, who here thinks that when God talks about justice, He means legalizing immorality?

quote:

Those who hold degrees from Moody Bible Institute (fundamentalist) and Seattle Pacific University (evangelical) are allowed to hold their final verdict on homosexuality in abeyance because the church's (Church of the Apostles) position on sexuality is not central to their identity, nor is Karen going to let either of her denominations thrust that issue to the forefront of her congregation. (For the matter, the gay members of the church are allowed to hold their opinions of the Moody and SPU grads in abeyance as well).
Tony Jones, The New Christians, p. 207

Doesn't the fact that the church has gay member already tell us where they stand?

quote:

So what I'm advocating is for us, first, to acknowledge that good Christians disagree. Some of us are open and accepting toward gay people. Some of us are accepting of gay people, but we don't affirm their homosexual behavior. Some of us are neither open nor accepting. So, what we need to do is say that there is diversity and that good Christians disagree. And then we need to have some charitable and intelligent dialogue rather than the name-calling and polarizing discourse we've had in recent years.
Mclaren, Charlotte, NC newspaper interview, Jan 26, '08

Reenforcing my idea that the emergent 'conversation' is simply another way of saying 'compromise'.

The fact that people who call themselves Christians disagree is irrelevant. Our standard isn't a consensus, but the Bible.

So with what you say go ahead and tell people that hey are stupid and nutty and see what there reaction is towards you. But thats alright you throw mud at someone and convince they are wrong. What a deal. And when you get in front of the Holy One. And he ask you how many did you bring to the kingdom? You will be able to say well I told them off. And they wouldn't follow you. By the way you could have a problem. When you have said it to the least of theses.
By know means am I endoresing homosexuallty. As many of the evangelical leaders have done by going to bed with them.

Mcleod, let's just see for ourselves how Jesus spoke to those sort of people, okay? Here's a tiny sample:

"You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of robbery and self-indulgence.

"You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of it may become clean also.

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness.

"So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous,

and say, 'If we had been living in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.'

"So you testify against yourselves, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.

"You serpents, you brood of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell?

By that standard, I think the posts have been pretty gentle.

Jimbo,
I am sure you recognize that every one of those rebukes was aimed at the relgious elite of Jesus' day - the one's who smuggly thought they were God's "chosen frozen" and had all their doctrines sewn up nice and neat.

Sir, it would be a sad shame if after being redeemed more than 41 years that I was clueless about my Savior and what He thinks about certain kinds of folk.

And don't act so smug just 'cause you represent the new elite. My Lord's message stands just as well for NEW false prophets and false teachers and cults.
