Has anybody seen the movie "Miss Potter"? We just got it from Netflix, and it's absolutely charming! It's about Beatrix Potter, who wrote "Peter Rabbit." No sex. No violence. No bad language. Just a good coming-of-age story that has a real plot and makes my husband want to read her books.

I can't say that I was ever interested in Beatrix Potter books before now. When I was young enough for them they were just "girls" books. Later they were just simple kids books, of no interest to adults like me.

But then Deb and I watched "Miss Potter" and much to my surprise it was good. (I have to admit Deb has better taste in movies than I do. Most of the movies she really likes turn out to be ones that I enjoy, too.)

Deb found a place online where I can take a look at the Potter books and I think I will.

Who would be interested in hearing about John's taste in movies?

Let's see...good movies....

Inner Space about a guy who failed at being an astronaut so he ageed to be shrunk so he could operate a microscopic submarine inside a rabbit. Instead the mini sub gets injected into a hypocondriac played by Martin Short.

Back to the Future I, II, and III are three of my favorites. Deb thought the first one was OK, but for some reason she's content with having seen them just once. (I've seen them a "bit" more than once.)

What's Up Doc with Barbara Striesand and Ryan O'Neil is another I really liked.

Support Your Local Sheriff staring James Garner is another I love.

I guess that'll do for starters.

I'll agree with her on the first Back to the Future. The second and third were ok...

Maybe "Back To The Future" 2 and 3 belabored the concept.

Hi Deb, John, and everyone else. Sorry I wasn't on earlier. Merv is going to be leaving for Church camp on Sunday-Friday, and then I'll be working Saturday and Sunday. I was spending some time with him since I won't see him much till next Monday. Sorry to say, I'm a bit of a baby about it. I hate when he's gone.

Hey John, you actually liked Back To The Future II, that has to be one of the all time worst sequels out there, but part III was pretty good though.

Innerspace, wow, I haven't thought about that movie in a long time!

Where were you, Terri?

I keep hearing thunder, so I must write short posts in case I need to get offline quickly.

Hi Deb. Hope you don't get too much of a storm. I'm only on for a bit. Merv just left for camp. I finished my pity party yesterday morning so I was able to send him off with a smile. I don't know how military wives manage.

Welcome home, then!

Okay, the storm has past, so I can get chatty again.

Mike, I have to disagree--I thought "Back to the Future III" was the lamest of the two sequels. In my opinion, neither sequel should have been made. The original, however, was surprisingly good.

We watched "Miss Potter" again last night, and decided we have got to buy it!

I guess I simply like science fiction in general and time travel stories in particular, as writers try to make something sound sensible which doesn't really make very much sense.

Take this example of time travel. I have 5 gold coins on the table. I pick them up enter my time machine and go back in time to before I picked up those 5 coins and now put the 5 coins I took onto the table. So now there are 10 coins. So I pick them up, go back in time...put them on the table....pick up the new quantity...and so on and so forth.

Nevertheless it is fun to me to see what science fiction writers do with time travel stories. Even DebbieLynne likes ones of them: Kate and Leopold I think is the name. In it the scientist uses a time warp by the Brooklyn Bridge to travel back in time, and the inventor of the elevator follows him back to the present, which creates the problem of the elevator not having been invented for all these tall buildings.

Yup...I do like time travel fiction.

Hi Sue. John's niece married a merchant marine, and he's away for months at a time. I thought when their first daughter was born, he'd get a land job. But now their second daughter is for months old, and he's out to sea again. I guess it's good money.

Who could not like "Kate and Leopold"?

(Not as good as "Miss Potter" though.)

Kate and Leopold reminds me a little of the movie Enchanted. In both you have a person (or persons) winding up in a strange world (the world that is "normal" to you and me) and trying to figure out what to do in it.

I like Enchanted! Especially the song that played when they danced at the ball.

It was a cute movie, Terri.

But I think "Miss Potter" is really the best movie I've seen in a very long time. I can't recommend it too strongly!
