Sounds fun! We don't get much "culture" here aside from high school plays and such (although my alma mater does an outstanding job on their productions). We do have an annual Rennaisance Faire, but the people in it scare me!

Hey--is anybody besides Marsha still reading this thread?
Now I know you saw my posts, for you even answered me!
I keep up in a lot of threads but don't always say anything. On the occasions I do, I've even surprised folks. They'll answer "I didn't know you read this thread!"

I'm a surprising person at rare times....

Wow, you're blessed to live in such a cultured area. Not much to see around here and most of what there is costs money. Well, we made the decision to have children. When they were small, we took them to the usual places you take kids, but since they're bottomless pits now we use much more groceries.

I'm fine thanks, how about you?

My older son turned 18 yesterday. We managed to find him a used truck that he'll be able to buy once he combines his money from his summer job and birthday cash. He should be able to take possession of it on Friday. It's a 95 Dodge Dakota club cab. This is his first vehicle so he's pretty excited. I'm excited too because now I won't have to get up at 6am to drive him to football practice.

Marsha, I can relate to the bottomless pit part. My 18 year old is slowing down, he's trying to lose some weight so he can join the Navy. The 14 year-old can still pack it in though. We went to Godfather's Pizza for the lunch buffet for J1's birthday and the younger one ate more than all the rest of us combined. He just turned 14 and is only a hair shy of 6 foot, so I suppose that's to be expected.

I'm not my best today, though eating lunch helped. I wonder if increasing my Baclofen (muscle relaxant) combined with the Zomig (migraine reliever) causes drowsiness. But, as I said, I just ate lunch, so I feel better. And the headache's under control. Praise God.

Our house guest should be here in about four hours. The apartment looks pretty good, except today was an Avon delivery day (my husband is an Avon rep), so we have bags flooding our living room. He had a lot of orders this campaign, which is good. Hope that will translate into a nice anniversary gift!

Hi, Deb and Sue!

I started taking baclofen a few montths ago. It does seem to cut the worst of the jerkiness on
my left side, which was about to drive me nuts.

Sue, my oldest turned 18 in April, but still has one more year of high school. After Christmas, he'll take a few classes at a jr. college. He has been working 60 hours weekly at Lowe's, but now he's on a part-time school schedule. He drives our van, since my husband can't anymore. He complains, but knows he can't do better right now.

I also wanted to apologize. I got mixed up on your first couple of posts, must have read them too quickly. I saw where you wanted to be called DebbieLynne, but somehow read it as you prefer Debbie over Deb. Can't figure out how I got that impression because your posts were perfectly clear. Anyway, I'll try to remember to use Deb and wanted to apologize for any of the times I used Debbie.

Whistler's Mother was amazing in person! I saw details I'd never seen in reproductions, such as the folds of her skirt and the decoration on the draperies. Also, I always thought she was in a rocking chair. Wrong! She's in a striaght back chair. I sat in front of it for nearly 15 minutes, trying to memorize it all. My husband wondered if he'd ever get me away from it!

The whole exhibit was fantastic, and I'll try to write about it in my blog soon. I loved it! I do think they curated too many pieces, though. It was such an intense exhibit, and took nearly two hours to work through. Then we came home and watched Franco Zeferelli's version of Jane Eyre. I'm cultured-out! Ready for my Little House on the Prairie videos tonight!

That sounds like a neat place. I'd love to go out that way for vacation. Maybe in a few years. J2's a freshman this year and will do American history in his junior year. Maybe well plan a trip out east for between his 10th and 11th grade years. It would help to make history come alive. I'm homeschooling him so we could even count the trip as school.

That would be fun. Now I just have to convince my husband and son that they want to go out east in a couple of years.

We were in Boston all day yesterday, getting our MBTA passes. I almost fell off the bus at Back Bay Station. It had a ramp rather than a lift, which I usually prefer...but the driver let it down on a curb-cut instead of the sidewalk, causing it to be too steep. I was nervous, but figured he knew what he was doing (obviously, he didn't), so I started down. I felt my back wheels lifting, and called for help. The Lord must have sent angels, because I didn't fall. The driver and a man on the street managed to get me safely on the sidewalk. The driver moved the bus to the sidewalk to get John off. I would have been seriously injured or killed if the chair had toppled, so I'm praising Jesus for protecting me! We won't tell John's mom or mine about this incident. And next time I won't try anything that steep! I'm very thankful to be alive and well today!

We're not afraid to ride buses again, by the way. I'm more afraid of using the RIDE in Boston, possibly going through Big Dig tunnels. We'll just learn from yesterday, and celebrate the fact that Jesus protected me. Isn't He good?

Deb, I'm so glad that you didn't fall. Have you considered writing a letter to the head of the bus system? Not to get the driver in trouble, but to make sure drivers are educated so this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Got my hair frosted today. This time I REALLY went blonde! I'll post a photo on my blog tomorrow. I'm very pleased with it, and I had so much fun having it done! John likes it, mostly because it makes me happy.

I'm glad it turned out the way you wanted it too. I gave up on coloring my hair. It grows too fast. Now I'm just pretending that the gray hairs are highlights.
