I'm new here and love reading so I gravitated to this forum first :-). I am re-reading "Suffering and the Sovereignty of God" by John Piper.

So what's the book by J Piper like? Does he believe in the sovereignty of God?

I'm almost done with "Could I Have This Dance?" a novel by Harry Kraus, M.D. It's the first Kraus book I've read. I plan on reading more of his novels.

I am currently reading "Undressed" by- Jason Illian It's a book about purity, not only physically, but also spiritually and mentally as well. I really have enjoyed reading it so far! I also am reading whatever my Physical Science and English instructors in college tell me to!

I'm currently reading Faith. God. and Rock & Roll by Mark Joseph. It's about people/artists of faith and the way they are transforming popular music. They discuss how they may have left the Christian music industry and have decided to join the mainstream. Some feel that it's an outreach to unbelievers/the lost and a way for them to share their faith. These are individuals who never experience who God is to us Christians, and now have a way through our commonality and love of music. More and more artists of Christian faith are reaching more people everyday and the industry is growing.

Excellent book! (Sorry I am late answering, have not been online). This book is by Piper with other authors contributing certain chapters. In fact I believe you can read the whole book online on "desiring God", John Piper's website. Of course, he does believe that our God is sovereign.

It's about a young girl trying to get away from her past. Not sure if I like it yet, but the last paragraph reads:

"She nodded back, too full of emotions to speak, and realized what she had always known somewhere deep inside. You can't run away from God, no matter how far you go. No matter how hard you try. He'll come after you, not resting until He brings you back. She drank in the sight of the smoky blue mountains in the distance, and the truth was as beautiful and as eternal as they were. She had never been alone. His eye had always been on the sparrow. He'd been watching over her all along."

FL: Thnx.

Doesn't Piper believe that God is limited in some way? or am I thinking of another author?

My 16 year old's summer reading assignment was A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bryson.

Of course, mama read it too. Gotta make sure kiddo does the work...

I can honestly say that it was the first scientific history book that I enjoyed. I actually laughed out loud a few times. It is a heavy but engrossing read.

(Of course, be forewarned that it is science that is not presented from a Christian world view.)

A Short History of Nearly Everything

i listened to this book on CD. it was amazing!!! and i remember laughing aloud, too. science was NEVER that amusing or interesting back in my school days! (lol)

I just finished Calico Canyon, and it was wonderful! A very fun romance, vaguely reminiscent of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I'm going to buy the first book in this series, and as soon as others are published will be buying them quickly :)

It sounds like you have him confused with someone else. If you would like to read what he believes, go to his website here:

I just bought the Kinship and Courage series by Jane Kirkpatrick but haven't started reading them yet. Anyone else ever read them, are they good?
