I am a Church of God girl but was unsure whether it is the wwchurch of God....
so I just decided to list it here...
I was non denominational untill 4 years ago and because of no accountability church split...I really like the accountability the leadership has in a denomination...
grew up southern Baptist but The Lord changed my path...

Hi! Do you mind saying which COG it is... Where I live there is THE Church of God, which is also called the concerned, who split out of the Church of God of Prophecy. And then there is what is called the Church of God or the elder church of God. This church and the COGOP separated many years ago. Was just curious if the COG you attend was one of either of these... :)

Between churches, but vaguely committing (with some trepidation) to my old church, Chinese Presbyterian Church in Sydney Australia.

I currentley attend a Southern Baptist but I am strongly considering at least trying a Methodist Church in my town.
So I'm going to a Methodist Church for the first time ever tomorrow...anyone care to give me head's up on what I should expect?

First, I'm going to assume that it is United Methodist (UM). There are a number of different kinds of Methodists, but the UMC is the largest one by far.

Given that, there will still be quite a variety between churches. Some UMCs are pretty formal. The pastors wear robes and there will be responsive reading and they sing hymns. Other UMCs are more contemporary. The pastors wear nice clothes, but nothing really formal, the language is more modern and conversational, and there is a band that sings modern worship songs. And there are lots of churches somewhere in the middle of these.

There also might be a difference depending on which service you attend if it is a big church. At my church all our services are essentially the same with a different "flavor" for each one.

I'm not sure what else to say, just let me know if you have more questions.

I can't really elaborate on someone else's warning, but there are some very liberal Methodist churches out there. If one is conservative, he would warn you against those that approve of abortion and homosexuality.

All of you who click "other" please list your church here.

I didn't click anything, but I've attended a lot of churches. I don't think a denomination saves. The most important thing in life is to know the Savior. Right now I will attend a Wesleyan Church so that my husband will be happy to go with me; at present, he isn't physically able to go, but I'm hoping he will be soon. Whether or not a person finds a denomination that they are in agreement with, or actually feel completely comfortable in, there is something to be said for attending church other than to "air your finery."

Well, I went to the Methodist Church Sunday and although it was much different than what I'm used to (Southern Baptist) I thought it was a good worship service. I agree with most of their doctrinal statements except their stance on women preachers. I'm still on the side of no on this issue but that debate is for another thread.

I'm just wondering why you included Mormon as a denomination of Christianity?

The church I attend is nothing more than a body of believers that follow Jesus Christ and try to live as He did. Others call it non-denominational.

Well put. Ditto.

Family background is Mennonite, though I'd say my family background is more like charismatic Mennonite (note the no capitals). From age 4-14 (roughly) went to PAOC despite disagreeing with some doctrines. God called us to another church, and we're non-denom now. We aren't even one of the Non-Denominational denominations. If anything, we're part of MFI.
