I went to a concert tonight with a local group, Son Shingers Singers. They did a great job. Everyone but one plays an instrument while singing. This gave them a full band. They sang a lot of the older songs from I've Got A Manison, If That Isn't Love, Sailing Towards Home, He Washed My Eyes With Tears, He Was There All Of The Time, Bring My Children Home, Just A Closer Walk With Thee, I Can't Even Walk, Some Call It Heaven, along with several more. A very large group out came out to hear the group. It was good to see a large attendance on a Sunday night.

ORIGINAL: JimC I saw Mike LeFevre Quartet at Shiloh Hills Baptist homecoming yesterday. Did they do any songs from their new CD? If so, and if you have it, could you maybe help me figure out who is who? Daniel the Mike Lefevre's will be in Roanoke next Saturday night. If you would like me to ask them any questions, feel free to let me know what they are.

Just saw The Blackwood Brothers Quartet at Highland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga. Huge Church. Guy told me that it seats right at 1400. With a few empty seats in the corners I'd guess there was close to 1200 folks there. Lineup is: Tenor, Wayne Little, not the highest tenor I've ever heard but very, very good never a squeak or cut short word Bass, Randy Bird just like the tenor not the lowest bass I've heard but great pitch and control Baritone and sometime piano player, Brad White may be the most talented member of the group and Jimmy Blackwood, lead, sounds just like his Daddy on those old tapes I have, that crystal clear voice is great. They used the 2 mic setup until Brad moved to the piano and then he had a third mic there. I don't think they did a single song that wasn't at least 40 years old but they did them perfectly with never an audible pitch flutter and the crowd was enthralled as was I. Started off singing with tracks on CDs and an OLD box type amplifier/mixer combo ( oldest looking equipment I've seen a major group use. From my seat on the 6th row looked like a Peavey 600C with the CD player sitting on top of it. Proof that great singers don't need great equipment.) Started set with How About Your Heart, Have You Talked To The Man Upstairs, & The Old Country Church Took a short break for intoductions then sang Jesus Is Coming Soon, Feeling Fine,(about 1/2 way through this song they pretended to block Brad White from the mics and he moved over to the piano and the third mic and finished the song there. He was amazing on the piano and played the rest of their concert. Next Randy Bird was featured on This Old Houseand did a neat fade right into When The Saints Go Marching In Wayne Little was featured next with a great rendition of The Lighthouse After that Brad and Jimmy had a fake arguement with Brad pouting he hadn't been featured that was hilarious and after about 3 minutes of this playing around Brad White did a piano solo of I'll Fly Away that was great. He did it soft, loud, fast, slow, majestic, and then so fast his hands were a blur for about 30 seconds. He got a standing ovation. They finished up the set with a beautiful version of How Great Thou Art with Randy doing the 1st verse and Jimmy doing the last verse ( believe if there had been a buch of window in the sanctuary the Jimmy might have shattered them at the end of the verse Brad did a piano solo of 'Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus while they took up the offering(Sam , you'll be glad to know that when the plate passed me there were no $1s in it and bunches of $20s and checks. ) I didn't have the funds to take advantage of their concert special which was 6 CDs and 4 DVDs for $100. but I saw a bunch of people getting it. 2nd set started with He Made A Way For Me, It Is No Secret, and I Want To Be More Like Jesus Everyday Then they took a few hymn requests from the audience a did In The Garden, The Old Rugged Cross, & Victory in Jesus Finished the Concert with, Learning to Lean On Jesus and a verse of I'll Meet You In The Morning. And then about after an hour and 25 minutes it was over, but what a blessing it was!!! I'll definitely see them again the next chance I get. Please forgive any typos. I double checked and found about 30 but it's likely I missed some.

BTW The GCGMA Gospel Showcase at Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park that I sang at this afternoon was great. They counted about 240 people there just after I finished my set and I was able to give out a lot of my cards and information. I also got to talk to some unchurched park patrons and invite then to my church which is what it all really about to me.

PS: We had to follow the BB's to close the first half at GOGR last night. As my blog says, describe them as pure class. Randy Byrd spent 10 years in AR, from age 10-20. We are both PK's...had some great fellowship Saturday. A great guy. A fine singer.

I went to Newton NC Saturday 08/16/08 to see Michael Combs and the Perrys. Here are a few highlights. *Joyful Hearts - This local group from Mooresville NC opened the program mainly doing covers. *Michael Combs - What can be said of Michael Combs? There was easily 1,000 people in attendance and I would say a large percentage of those people were there to see Michael. He thrilled the audience with signature songs "Drinking From My Saucer", "Not For Sale", "Going Fishing", "It Was Me", "I'm Not Lonely Anymore" and a song I have always enjoyed from him "You're Invited To My Mansion". *Perrys - They came out to an enthusiactic crowd and sang one up tempo song after another. Their first few songs were "Every Question Will Be Answered", "I Know It Was The Blood", "Come And Get Me", "I Wouldn't Take Nothing For My Journey Now" and "I'm Living In Canaan Now". They also sang several other favorites including "He Will Hide Me", "Holy Shore", "The Potter Knows The Clay" and "I Wish I Could've Been There".

I really enjoyed seeing Enlisted and King's Heralds on Saturday night. Enlisted is a wonderful local group and they're releasing a song, Go Tell John, to radio from their newest album. The King's Heralds were very, very good, but I don't appreciate their "swing" style songs too much. Every one of the singers is outstanding. They did quite a number of their a capella songs that they are especially good at and quite a number of regular southern gospel style songs. They are the group that did the a capella numbers from the floor of Freedom Hall at last year's NQC. I forgot to ask if they were going to be doing that again this year. I'll try to get some videos posted later today or tomorrow. I saw Christian Davis last night at a revival service in Tallapoosa, GA. He sang 5 songs (Everybody Praise the Lord, In the Sweet By and By, Thanks to Calvary, It Matters to Him About You, and Make It Real) and they were soooo good!! BTW - baby Annaliese is doing great now and is growing like crazy after her problems the first weeks after her birth!!

Last night, the Lambdins were at Sharon Baptist, where jchaz is the MOM. I finally got to hear Foster sing - She opened with What Heaven Means to Me ....WOW!!!! The Lambdins were never better than they were last night. I'd guess they sang close to an hour before the break. If you love tight, sweet Appalachian harmony (seven parts if they are all there), you'll love them. There were six of them last night. They have a band (piano, drums and bass guitar), and they are all family except for Bruce, the bass guitar player. And they are some of the sweetest people you will EVER meet, and they are totally into ministry, not just entertainment. If you ever get a chance to see the Lambdins, please do so.....you won't be disappointed. During the intermission, we met a newcomer to the area, compliments of Robert York. His name is Tim Tidwell, a GREAT guy who just moved here from Michigan. He sounds REMARKABLY like that truck driver from Tupelo. I expect to see a lot more of him (I sure HOPE SO).

I think Christian has been doing a couple of appearances a month. They are REALLY busy at the Dominion Agency with new artists and getting ready for NQC, which is just around the corner now!!!!

He was also telling me at the Western Convention that they sang from the floor and that the people demanded them to be on main stage that they had to bring them up on main stage. I don't think they mind at all singing from the floor and they got to be on the program every night last year.

I attended the Greater Vision Concert on Friday Aug 15, in Powder Springs Ga. It was the second week with their new tenor and they were superb. I always sit on the second row so I can see and hear it all. The sound was great and Jacob seemed to take Gerald's ribbing well.
