Thanks, Sandy! I really like THIS one. It has great reviews, and most people said you don't have to use barrettes to hold it on, which is what I use now. It's kinda funny because all my bandanas I bought a long time ago when it was fashionable, and I bought them all in PINK because that's all I ever wore in high school. Well, I'm sick of pink, so I'm looking to get some in black, white and brown, that way I don't always have to wear pink to match my head covering.

Sandy, I can kinda sew. Buttons and hemming pants, etc. I made my own nursing cover with the boning even. I'm really proud of myself even though it looks kinda sloppy. Took forever too because I don't have a machine. LOL! What are the dementions for the triangular scarf you make?

I've got another question, for those of your who do cover your head, do you always wear skirts/dresses? I don't really feel called to wear them, but I do feel called to cover my head. It's been calling my name for at least a year now.

Anyone ever knit a cover and wear it? I just got a pattern but not sure how well it'll stay on.

girl, I didn't know you covered your head! That is so nifty!
I just started covering my head a few months ago.
I know women who cover who aren't skirts/dresses only.
I personally am skirts mostly. I don't wear dresses at all, because I look like a lumpy 'ol sack of flour in them LOL, but I have several long skirts, denim and cotton. A few from walmart, and a couple from Old navy.
I didn't start out that way, when I first started covering my head, I still wore my regular ol' jeans all the time...but gradually I really felt that I should make an effort to look nicer, and skirts always look nicer (ON ME ) Added to that, the fact that my man LOVES it when I wear skirts...there ya go.
I still wear jeans on days when I'm just farting around the house, or if I have to do work outside...like shovel snow. But for the most part, I put on a skirt

I've never knit one, but I suppose that you could and just use little bobby pins or clippies to hold it on

And Christina, I've never had to use clippies with the tiechels from the other website I posted. I just tie right at my front hairline and it stays great!

I always took that passage from the time of Paul.I may be mistaken but were not the woman of those days to cover their heads when they were out?So I took it as Paul saying show the same respect you would when at any other setting by covering your head in the Church also...I havent studied it hard but that is my explanation..i could be wrong...

BTW...What I am saying is that.We should dress in a respectful manner and not be dressed in the same kind of manner we would be dressed at home..Like for the women, not being too comfortable,if you get my drift.

The thing is, Paul's arguments were not based on culture, but on creation and God's order of things. Interestingly, the entire Church, worldwide, every denomination, believed the covering was a universal "ordinance" for all time, even into the 20th century. At some point people forgot the reason for covering, and it became simply a "rule", which then dropped as the Church in the West loosened up. But that Scripture is why it is considered impolite even to this day for a man to wear a hat in church, and why many women still do wear hats in church, even if they don't know it comes from the Bible. To this day, many evangelical women in other countries cover their heads for prayer and worship. It's something I've noticed with interest in the Gospel for Asia and Voice of the Martyrs newsletters. The women in many of the pictures either pull a fold of their sari over their heads, or pull out a kerchief or lace hanky for church times.

Sandy, I just started to a few weeks ago. I had asked Maggie and another lady in my church about it like a year ago. They were the only ones I knew who covered. There are elderly ladies in my church that wear fancy church hats, but I wasn't sure they were doing that because of tradition or obedience. I felt convicted and curious about it then, but it took me forever to obey God.

I hear ya Mama. God can be persistent can't He?
I'm so excited for you! I'm telling you, the biggest changes in my marriage came about when I accepted God's will and submitted to Him and my husband re covering.

Sammy...think of it this way...if 1 cor 11 was only for that time..then why not toss out the rest of 1 cor as only for that time as well. Like The Lord's Supper. Why should we still observe that? Because it's the Word, and God says so..that's why.

Thank you, Sandy. I keep telling myself that my marriage will probably improve. It's hard to come to terms with though. My hair is my best physical feature, and I enjoy dying it different colors, so to lose that makes me a little sad. I will save money on hair stuff though, I won't have to buy Pantene anymore.

I have a question for you ladies who cover (please tell me if this is the wrong place to ask and I drop it).
What would you do if you feel convicted to cover your head at all or most times (I don't always in the house) but were unable to because of your job? I am currently trying to be separated from the military but until that happens I am not allowed to wear a head covering (other than the military cover and that not indoors) while working.
I'm just curious on others thoughts, it's been a source of contention with some people in my life.

That's an intriguing question which I once asked myself once. I think probably in that time in the middle east bc the weather is hot and the desert women wore a covering to protect their head from the heat of the sun.

If it wasn't military, I'd say to find another job. But, since it is, I'd say to follow the law of land. The military probably has that for good reason, maybe your helmet doesn't fit properly with it on, and that could possibly be dangerous.

Better....obey your regs of course. If you are convicted about wearing a head covering, then do it whenever you're in civies...but while on duty, do as the regs say.
(My hubby is Army..and he says it's just not allowed LOL)
In your case, it's obvious that you are being obedient to the best of your ability...and God will see that.

Christina..I had a hard time with that when God told me to cover too. I love my hair, and have always felt that it's one of the few pretty things about me. I loved to color it, and put pretty clips and things in it...but covering can be a lot of fun! There are so many gorgeous scarves out there, and I have found that I can express myself just as much with my covers as I did with my hair...and be obedient to boot! LOL Letting go of my vanity was tough, but I'm so glad I did!
Sandy

Thanks for the replies, I wasn't meaning to imply I would not follow regs. On the flightline wearing a covering is a hazard so I understand it. My problem is just feeling like a hypocrite for covering while in civies. I hadn't even thought about it "being obedient to the best of your ability". Thanks, that helps alot.

no worries Dear...I knew you wouldn't disobey regs....LOL I just can't imagine that =)
I'm glad you feel better. God knows you're being obedient in your heart, even if you can't physically obey until you're out of the military

Yes, though recently I've been wearing pants out (cold weather, it's easier when I'm at things with my daughter like playgroup) but I'm being called back to it.

I buy my head coverings all over the place. Mostly right now I get them at Zellers (Canadian Wal-mart) because I use fashion scarves. Though when the weather gets warmer I'm going to take a walk to one of the Muslim stores down the street to see what I can find.

Better - I don't cover all of the time but I do wear skirts all of the time. However, for my job I can't wear skirts. I don't feel disobedient or a hypocrite when I'm not wearing skirts. It's a choice I have made based on a calling from God. He understands that I am not doing it deliberately.

I cover all the time (except when sleeping or ill), but I do not wear dresses all the time. I wear them mostly...I practice modesty..and sometimes pants are the more modest choice depending on the activity...I just make sure I always look like a girl (a modest one).....I do wear dresses 98 percent of the time.

I make my own coverings...I cut circles of lace and trim them or tat lace doilies that are big enough to cover with. I also use bandanna/handkerchiefs or make my own cloth ones as well.

One word of caution if you use bandannas...PLEASE be aware of any gangs in your area and what their colors are and DO NOT wear coverings made out of bandannas in those colors....not because God will be angry, but because it can put your life in jeopardy. There was a 14 year old girl shot not far from where I live because she was wearing a red bandanna...as a headcovering.

That is so sad. I'm so glad I moved here from the Bay Area. Don't have to worry about that stuff anymore.

Hi ladies!

I have read this entire thread. While I am still in study and prayer, deciding for myself on whether I am being called to cover, I wanted to ask those of you that do cover this:

I got one of my husband's bandanas and tied it on my head and just looked in the mirror. My 1st thought was, boy are you unattractive. And then I got a little jolt. Is that the point? Dying to my own desire to be attractive to the world and desiring instead to be obedient to God?

Note: I am NOT asserting that any of you are unattractive, I am just sharing my honest first reaction to my reflection.

I sent you a pm Mama, but I'll post here too

When I first started covering, I thought I looked terribly dowdy. I even rebelled and 'forgot' to cover some days, so I could be 'cute'
But, God really spoke to me, and I think you are right on with your thoughts...being obedient to the Lord can often make us 'unattractive' in the world's eyes...but God is a wonderful beautifier...and now that I've given it to Him and simply obeyed with covering my head...I love it! I love the way I feel, and look, and my husband hasn't stopped telling me how lovely and womanly he thinks I am.
