There is also a time frame when a couple either has to abstain or use some other method of conception control before the v is considered to be a full success.

No. I try not to ask about those things with men. One was a guy I worked with, so I would not ask something that personal. It was enough that they told me that much.

Once they got married (she wanted children) he got a reversal. They have two children. Has your fh talked with his g.p. about possibly having a vasectomy, that is of course, if he is willing to get one done? It might take some searching...but, just because a couple doesn't have children doesn't necessarily mean that a doctor wouldn't perform one.

I'm going to talk to my doc about leah's sheild I'm thinking a doctor would still do one; just have to find one that will. I'd say if there is any chance whatsoever that one of you may want a child in the future, stuff isn't always reversible. But if you're quite sure and there is a doc somewhere that'll do vasectomy (and he's willing), I think it'd be better to get the tube cut.

That can be good or bad, lol.

I think they are more willing to do it for men then women. But if your FDH wants kids then that probably isn't a good option....

We don't like condoms, either, but it's something we put up with for now until it's time to TTC. The best kind are SKYN brand. It's a new kind, just released in the last couple of months, and you can buy it at Wal*Mart. They are the least unpleasant of all we've tried.

Yup, we are using condoms as well as hormonal bcp(partly from paranoia, and partly due to convictions). We actually like the Kimono brand the best, the only draw back is that they have to be ordered online.

Condoms aren't great, but they are a lot better than being preggo forever and getting up every two hours each night for a cry-fest and feeding. We've found that condoms are "the choice" when faced with the consequences. 1. Pregnancy isn't forever, though it may seem like it. 2. Not every baby gets up every two hours for a cry-fest and feeding (thank you, Lord!). 3. I'd not rely on condoms alone if you really, really, really don't want to risk #1 or 2. I can't tell you how many we've had break, and we haven't used all that many over the years. Seriously, Sharon, if you don't want to be pregnant/have a baby...it's probably going to be inconvenient, no matter how you choose to do that. You just have to decide if the inconvenience is worth it.

And remember that the fertile time is only for about 7-10 days. I call it condom week. I purposely drag out till the other weeks. :) And there are other things to do. :)

You know, we've been using them for well over a year, and we've never had one break so far. And we use one EVERY time. It helps if you use extra lube (in addition to what's already on it). At this point, it wouldn't be a tragedy if one did break, but last year I would have been pretty worried about it. So far, no problems.

We've been using them off and on for 2.5 years and haven't had one break. So, Zippy... is that all you guys use? I have been meaning to ask you since you've obviously avoided successfully.

Well, it is not so much that I don't like the condoms...I can't tell too much of a difference and they are not that inconvinent to put on. But, my husband is not fond of them at all. He said they really take away from his sensations and such....if ya know what I mean. Anywho.....The Army is really our BC right now. When he comes back, I think we are gonna have to do more experimenting with the condoms so that I'm not spending a fortune on pregnancy tests while worrying myself so much about it.

We never had a break, but dH was very methodical about putting them on and removing them properly. It helps to be married to an engineer. He could not tolerate spermicide, which is one way to help make sure you don't get pregnant. But we did find a particular type of condom he like much better then others as far as the sensation aspect goes. Many folks find that it helps to combine NFP with condoms, though we never did.
