Ernie Haase is not a good tenor, and he doesn't belong on stage with any of these gentlemen. And to prove my point listen to every project that he has recorded "Oh, What A Savior" on and you will notice it is lower every time.
past: Bill Shaw, Bobby Clark, Danny Funderburk
present:David Sutton, Steve Ladd, Jerry Martin

honorable mention:Kirk Talley(one of the most underrated tenors of all time), Rick Busby(formerly of the Florida Boys and Heaven Bound), Brion Carter (formerly of Palmetto State who was an outstanding tenors)

I agree with most of your post. But you seemed to have missed the point. This thread is about which three tenors people would like to see together. Under those circumstances, since someone chose Ernie Haase as one of their three he does belong. I personally believe if you start listing the top tenors of today he also has to be on that list. But it is all about opinion.

I do agree that Kirk Talley is one of the most underrated tenors out there .

How about:

Jim Murray (best that has ever been in my humble opinion)

Rosie Rozell

Sherrill Neilson

I apologize for my statement about Ernie, and we all are entitled to our opinions. I personally believe that when you talk about the best tenors past or present in Southern Gospel, he's not even in the top 20. But that is just my opinion, and I don't hold it against anyone for liking Ernie. They just need some good hearing aids

I was just browsing through some old threads and a new three tenors popped into my head. This would be the greatest ever.

David Phelps
Wes Hampton

OK. Maybe it wouldn't be the greatest ever, but it sure would be fun for me.

Three tenors?

One tenor is enough. More than enough sometimes.

Wow! I guess the fans that voted Ernie Tenor of the year more than ANY other tenor ever must all be wrong. It all depends on what kind of tenor you prefer. If you like a nasal thin falsetto voice than there are MANY of them in southern Gospel. If you like a natural manly (if that can happen singing that high) voice then there are only a few to pick from. Ernie has a quality voice. Many "tenors" couldnt come close to making it in any other genre. Am I wrong, I listened to the Cathedrals farewell video and he sings "Savior" in F# (i think) and thats still the same key he does it in. And how would singing lower not make him a good singer? Most all tenors do that... Danny Funderburk, Larry Ford, Jim Murray. I would put all of these guys (and Ernie) on my top 10.

Yes, that's still the same key he's doing it in, and it's the key he's been doing it in since 1992 or 1993, I believe. The first time he recorded it with the Cathedrals, it was a half-step higher, G, but from then on every following rendition (to my knowledge) has been in F#.

And if it sounds lower, perhaps he's actually getting better and making it sound easier.

Bill Baize, Larry Ford, and Jim Murray. Unbeatable. Plus Bill, and Larry are classically trained.

I'd not forget Johnny Cook. His rendition of "Looking For a City" has never been equaled (in my opinion). This leads me to suggest: Johnny Cook, Coy Cook, and Rosei Rozell. It would be a great classic style tenor singing. I also think that these would blend together well.

I will take Real tenors over the falsetto tenor garbage that is sweeping this music today.

No, I am not a fan of Ernie Haase but he is a real tenor.

I am glad the Kingsmen have a real tenor again. Harold Reid reminds me of the Kingsmen tenors of old. Johnny Parack, Ernie Phillips. When Jerry Martin left to join The Dove Brothers, I was heart-broken.
Derrick Boyd (Carolina Boys) and then Jeremy Peace both were totally falsetto singers. Usually meaning they seem to have no stopping point on their range, but if the song starts too low, they have to sing in their "real voice". And that class, is not a "tenor voice."
