Um. . . Can someone show me where in scripture is says that baptism is suppose to be public and is nullified if it is done in a more private setting?

This is a sincere request. I'm trying to find it. I can't.

OTH, can you find a baptism in scripture where they hid in the bushes or intentionally held a private baptism? I'm reasonably sure you can't find that either.

Right. So why is the one that only takes place in front of a group of people valid?

It may not be invalid, but a public baptism, like the one Jesus had, is also a public witness of one's salvation in Christ. If given the option, I can't imagine trying to do something in secret when I can testify in public of what my Lord and Savior has done in me.

But did you wish to hide your baptism from others?

I'm not sure anyone saw the Ethiopian get baptized by Philip other than the Ethiopian and Philip.

But, back to the topic.....I still don't understand what exactly this "internet baptism" is all about or who this is trying to serve.

As far as "unpublic" baptisms... you need look further than Phillip and the Ethiopian. Outrun the chariot, preach the book of Isaiah, baptise the dude in the nearby lake, **poof** show up in Samaria... it's all in a day's work as an Apostle.

I understand that, it is why I said, "If given the option, I can't imagine trying to do something in secret when I can testify in public of what my Lord and Savior has done in me." Phillip and the Ethiopian were in an unusual situation that should put to rest the notion that only a public baptism is valid, but it doesn't make it the norm or preferred method.

I agree. When I got baptized, I wanted the whole world there. (This coming from a woman who suffers extreme panic attacks at the thought of being in a crowd.)

I would say that not being done in public does not invalidate it whatsoever. I really dont know of anyone who really thinks it would. And as for Phillip and the Ethiopian eunuch nothing says they were only ones there. Many church buildings have Baptismals and only the congregation would be present during a baptism. I would think this covers it not being public. However it is a confession before others that you are identifying with the Lords death and resurrection. It may only be one other believer but to have someone calling themselves a pastor on a computer instructing or leading a baptism I would say that is just wrong and weird.

Just the opinion of a small town preacher

Maybe some people do. But that's besides the point of whether private is acceptable or not.

First I need to say that I am a member of the Church in question unless someone else is doing it also.
You may flame me or the church but, there are a lot of people doing life online, we desire to leverage what Satan has used for years (the Internet) to further Gods Kingdom. The Baptism wasn't done in secret, it was done with who was attending the Internet campus that day which is literally from different places in the world. Also the person that did the actual Baptism is a believer. If you want to see, it's online on youtube, search "online baptism", as far as a tub being biblical. I don't see much difference between it and a fiberglass baptistery at a church. We also had a Beach Baptism on Easter morning in which 19 folks from the Internet campus came and were Baptised there along with others who attend our other local campus's.
God Bless
