No I do about two or three from the first three mostly working on the arms and shoulders. I don't want to have bat wing arms. Thanks for the link!

I am going to have to start lifting weights again. I always start and then stop. But I need to build some strength and lose some weight.

I know this is women specific but does this sound like a good routine?

http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/displayarticle.php?aid=136

cycling and yoga will be my cross training.

That looks like a great plan to me. Put with cycling and yoga, you should be feeling and looking great! Nice site. I'll have to look at that more when I have a chance.

I have to be stricter with the eating, but I hope so!. That site was always recommended when I tried to do the body for life.

I've been following (lurking) in this thread for quite some time. This thread took me to some great sites like bodybuilding.com. Thanks folks.

I lifted weights with some buddies when I was 18. I made great gains, quickly. I also fell in love with weightlifing. UNfortunately, I also met a girl I thought I fell in love with and quit training. Several years later, while in college, I began lifting again. But, after college that fizzled out too. Then I got back into the National Gaurd and lifted as part of my PT routine. Was really good about it until leaving Alaska in 1999.

Last year I got tired of the kids calling me fatty daddy and decided to begin lifting at home. A Snap Fitness opened in our community last summer and I joined. I was doing good anf then, while playing a game with my teenage kids at youth group, I blew out my knee. I had to have my ACL resconstructed and the meniscus repaired. Since getting off my restrictions after Christmas, I have been working out diligently and have made some great gains. I haven't lost weight, but I've defied gravity by pushing my gut back up into my chest. I've dropped three inches in my waist.

So, thanks for listening, thanks for the encouragement, and thanks for any future advise you guys provide.

Hi, Konstantinos. That stinks about the knee, zamdad. But welcome.

I didn't do my lifting yesterday. I had a meeting in the morning (back to school time!) and I was just wiped out after my step class last night! I'm going to get me and the kids moving here in a minute and make the 8:30 class and squeeze in that workout this morning. I'm also working really hard on getting my diet back on track, it's been so bad! I can't wait for dh to get back in gear though. And I can't keep eating like this, I feel yucky!

Speaking of zamdad's knee, though. I'm having a lot of pain in my feet! I really think it's from my new gym's wood floors. I'm sure I'm due for new shoes but gotta put aside some money and make a trip down to the Nike outlet...not sure when that'll get done. I'm back on my glucosamine and hopefully that'll help. It helps my knees but this floor is just brutal!

My plan today is to do this workout and as much of the step class as I have time for and my aching foot can handle...

Squats (5x5@168 - that'll be an increase from last week!)
Rows (5x5@80)

Lunges (4x10w/25s)
Bench (4x10w/15s on the Smith machine)

Triceps (dips maybe, not sure - 4x10w/a 45 plate)
Biceps (4x10 - as much as possible with the 20's - trying to move up to those but they're heavy!)

Gotta push it a little today. Also desperately need to keep my diet clean today. Aiming for 150g Protein, 35g Fat, and no more than 125g Carbs.

Today was my circuit - 3x10 everything: deadlifts (60lbs), Lat Pull Down (70 lbs), shoulder press (w/12's - woo hoo, that's huge for me on my bad shoulder, it's getting better!), and lunges (25's).

It didn't seem so bad at the time but I did a step class right after and my legs and arms felt (and still feel) like they weigh 1,000 pounds! I'm wiped out.

My back has been sore from earlier in the week. I hope I don't regret those pull downs but I'm also hoping it doesn't rain tonight so I can get in the hot tub. That's probably overly optimistic, a long hot bath will have to do.

40 snatches
60 clean and jerks

learnt a couple things. just as i suspecteed the reason the bar hit my waist hard on the snatches were because i forgot to turn my elbows out.

also learnt how to not be tight except for my core during the lifts and tighten during the points where you have to. since i was used to squats, deadlifts etc where you tighten everything right as you start the lifts, it was kinda hard to break through the habit earlier

I got an email from my fitness center today asking me to join a fitness challenge to win big prizes. I logged on and found myself disappointed as it was about weight loss. The goal is to lose weight and inches. I could win this challenge based on time spent in the gym and minutes exercising, but my goal is not to lose inches, rather to gain. I want to gain more muscle and, by the rules of the contest, I would be losing the challenge.

I guess I write this because I am disappointed with the place the weight loss movement has taken us. For too may the goal is losing pounds, not getting into shape.

Zam,
I hear you and agree, but it's a numbers game. Far more people join gyms with the goal of losing weight than getting bigger, stronger or even"fitter" for that matter. Also, too many losing "weight" that is actually muscle, which is the last thing desirable.
