Its Had to get all the groups in one poll. There are so many great groups of yester-year. JD was the man period. I loved his low down bass. Never be another like him. But if we could be a poll together of all the great groups, just imagine how long that list would be. There are so many I left out now looking back, I am trying to figure out how I missed them. I guess my little brain just wasnt big enough to get them all in. Sorry for leaveing so many out, I hope you guys understand..

The Older Groups in my opinion, touched me in ways alot of todays new groups cant. Just listening to the older Tracks and songs, it just takes me to a place thats calming and relaxing. The Older Style of Southern Gospel Music, The Older Groups, and the Old Hymns do it for me. I only wished I could have remembered so many more of the older groups. Not that theres anything wrong with todays SOuthern Gospel, cause I love some of it as well, I just have a heart for the older SOuthern Gospel. When I sing, I like to do the Hyms, and older songs you dont hear much anymore. There are so many songs that from those days touch me I cant even nmae them all, and so many groups that thrills me to hear I cant even name them all. I just love Gospel Music. Southern Gospel Music is the best style of music there is. And The power in the groups shows that. Just look at how long some of the groups have been around, look at how the fan base for them is, the power in their songs. The Inspirations, THe Kingsmen, The Stamps, The Hinsons, The Happy Goodmans, Gold City, The Blackwood Brothers, The Chuck Wagon Gang, The Cathedrals, The Speer Family, The Florida Boys, and the list just goes on and on and on. Our God is Wonderful, and it shows not only in His Word, Not only in His Saving Grace, Not only in His Healing Power, but look at the talent He has on His Side, Look at the Amount of Lives Touched and Moved by those people, and yet still, people dont want to believe in Him. Makes no Sense. Sorry for the rambling. Just had it laid upon my heart to say.

Kind'a like some of the others on this thread. Wondering where the Singing Americans are. The SA groups that Ed Hill managed were pretty special! Probably would not top this poll...but might have gotten some votes. I am amazed at how many fans remember Ed from his SA days. Just daydreaming a little...PJ

I remember seeing the Strickland, English, Hill, Burke version of the Singing Americans sometime around 1985. It was around the time "I Bowed On My Knees" became popular. They were really good!!

I'd also like to see the Singing Americans up there. The first part of the 80s GC was not at their prime so I find it hard to vote for them for 'the 80s even though by mid 80s they were rocking! I loved the Cats and the Kingsmen during that time as well as the 70s. The Original Hinsons were awesome in person especially.

I love The Happy Goodmans! Vestal was my favorite, there was just something about that voice..she could go from soft to loud in about 2 seconds!! The Goodmans will always have a place in my heart.

I voted Cathedrals, but I could just have easily checked Gold City or the Kingsmen.

- I love Gold City of the 80's and the Cathedrals with Danny Funderburk are not far behind, but I had to vote for the Kingsmen there was just something about them, the best band, the live albums and the greatest Emcee of all time.

Although all these groups were fantastic in their time, and I was a fan of most of them, I think the greatest quartet that has ever been assembled was the Cathedrals, especially in the 80's, starting the decade out with Kirk Talley at tenor, then by 83 Danny Funderburk who would remain with the group for the remainder of the decade. Throw in Mark, George and Glen, you cant beat that lineup vocally. Then Roger leaves in 86 and Gerald comes in and they make two of the greatest albums of all time, Land of Living and Symphony of Praise.

For me, it's a toss up between The Happy Goodmans and The Original Hinsons. It doesn't get any better than that, although Gold City would be third.

Of the choices, the Inspirations are number one in my book. I also like the Weatherford Quartet, late 50's through mid 70's especially. Add to that the Florida Boys Especially while Billy Todd was singing bass. The Goodmans around the same era were good, as were....
