You know you're a 70s kid when you...

know what a Gremlin is. I wonder if those things are collector items now.

have a pet rock in its original "crate" buried in your "things" in the basement.

have a bunch of old Foghat and Bad Company albums in the basement. Or Maybe a few Yes, Grand Funk Railroad or Cat Stevens albums.

have numerous National Lampoon and a huge pile of Mad magazines in the basement.

and you have a bumper sticker claiming to have seen an Artesian.

Ahh, the 70's... Why does that seem like SOOOO long ago now? LOL

...you wore bell bottoms that were the rage once, but were on their way out of style (but you had to wear them anyway). You wore those button up shirts with big ole horse collars and the shirts had very loud prints on them!

-Clogs were so very popular!
-Ski jackets & button bag purses were popular, I guess that was early 80's.

...You could play Barbies for hours, and paper dolls, hide 'n seek until dark, collected lightning bugs in a glass peanut butter jar. That was when we actually played board games. I loved my Raggedy Ann doll! My Holly Hobbie Treehouse was very special. Remember Shrinky Dinks?? I loved those!

...One Christmas, I received a "Baby Beans" doll. It was extra special. She had a vinyl face with pink cloth body.

...You didn't really use the telephone until you were a teenager! You had to talk near where the telephone was plugged in!

...Most kids didn't engage in conversation with adults. (We were in our own little worlds, I guess.)

...One of your prized possessions was an Etch-A-Sketch.

...You loved Weeble Wobbles!

...You had a Fisher-Price toy record player w/colored records that played nursery songs!

...You had a View Master with slides.

...Every year when I had a slumber birthday party, it was a special treat to watch "The Wizard of Oz" on t.v. & it was a big deal!

...Every Friday night, my best friend & I watched The Dukes of Hazzard & Dallas. I still don't know why we were allowed to watch Dallas, but things were different then, I guess. I had the biggest "crush" on Bobby Ewing. LOL!

...You had to wait until Saturdays to watch kids' shows on t.v. (if you could gain control of the t.v. in time)

...You did a ton of chores without an allowance.

Well, the memory hasn't totally abandoned me yet, huh? I was born in 1970.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Emergency! and CHiPs yet...we used to pretend we were in CHiPs and ride our bicycles down the street as if they were motorcycles.

Also, anyone remember Doug Henning?

KC and the Sunshine Band? My sister was in love with Rick Finch. I think he played the bass.

I was in love with Grizzly Adams - serious! I wanted to live in the mountains among the wildlife and have a pet bear and have wild animals just come flocking up to me.

Also it seemed like the only shows on after school were reruns of Gilligan's Island and Brady Bunch plus maybe a few others.

Lest you think all I ever did was watch TV, I did do a lot of playing with my Jane and Johnny West ranch and horses, plus my Breyer horses.

We also liked to play Charlie's Angels (I was generally Kelly). Outside we played Land of the Lost, being chased by Grumpy the T Rex. Who needed Jurassic Park back then? Okay, I guess maybe my life did revolve around TV way too much! And we did not even have cable for most of the '70s. I guess we were satisfied with whatever we could get.

I did do a FEW things that were not TV-related!

I remember Dark Shadows on TV right after school. Or was that late '60s?

you had an entire of library of "teenage girls in trouble" novels all ordered from the Scholastic book order!

Did you know that "Mr. and Mrs. Bo Jo Jones" is making a come back among today's high school girls? Lots of us moms are giving it to our teen daughters to read, my youngest dd is 17 and I recently got a copy for her.

Turns out it was a very realistic and mature treatment of the topic of teenage parenting and the consequences of teen sex.

Wow, who knew?

....you keep an electric typewriter in your office & you check the new phone book every year hoping & praying someone has opened a business so they can come & repair it. I'M NEVER GIVING UP!!

....you step over your child who is on the living room floor talking on the phone & you don't even acknowledge it.

...you keep the metallic disco dress in your closet in hopes it will come back in style someday (I think the typewriter man will come sooner). kd

I'll have you know that clogs are still very popular!

I had my very own princess phone in my bedroom. Not a separate line, but my very own phone. I was just so cool.

prolly why I had one of this big floor pillows so I could be closer to the TV than sitting across the room on the sofa

I wonder if that's why I have to wear reading glasses now

Late 60's early 70's I think.

Here's a real 70's band question: Does anyone remember the band with the albino guy who played the floating keyboard?

Connie, the only albinos I remember is Edgar and Johnny Winter. We went to an Edgar Winter concert but I didn't see anything since I was shorter then anyone around me. My boyfriend was 6'6" and could see everything. He was so excited when Edgar played the guitar with his teeth. It was also the first time I was offered a joint by a girl standing next to me. I just shook my head no and smiled. My bf said if she would have offered it to him he would have broken it in half. My philosophy was live and let live I guess.

Yes! I loved them...I thought they were the coolest! Concerts back then were so different than now. We had so much fun going to them.

We went to see Steppenwolf in 1975 on their farewell tour - it was awesome!

Steppenwolf was my very first concert! I think it was 1970. I know I was a sophomore which was 70-71 and I remember which boyfriend took me. He told me he was carrying hash but I freaked out so bad that he didn't even show it to me. I think he was disappointed he didn't get to smoke it there.

I think I finally smoked dope when I was 25-26, somewhere in there, so it was still the 70's.

That's a major difference from the 70's concerts to now...no dope smoking.

and to quote Ms Martha - that's a good thing

Bikes with banana seats and U-shaped handlebars.
Baseball cards were for flipping and noise-making in spokes. And they came with a rock hard piece of bubble gum.
Razzles
Fizzies
The Big Red Machine

and sweet tarts that were hard and came two to a pack - took all day to eat one

blow dryers were "new" and took forever to dry my hair - seriously, they had the little brush on the end and took me like 2 hours.

YES!!! At first I was so excited, cause I had curly hair in a fashion generation of straight hair, so I thought this was gonna be so great for me.

Not!

I would blow dry till my arms were about to fall off and then a friend would iron it for me. We would get up an hour early in high school to iron each others hair.

Guys with Mike Brady perms. Guilty of that one myself.
I can remember my sisters using a hair dryer with a hood like a shower cap connected to a hose.
"Don't bogart that joint."
Anti-war songs were cool.
