Ryanne, sounds like the worst has passed (hopefully!) but still covering you, Micah and Gabby in prayer!

OneOfHisJewels, I was wondering about the possibility of psoriasis too. I'm going to call his doctor if I see it again. Bug bites might be it also. Mosquitos are crazy down here this year. A few nights ago, Marshall woke up covered in bites. Apparently a couple of very hungry ones got in there room and decided he was pretty sweet.

Coming in late, Ryanne, but glad to hear Gabby is home and doing better. Will continue to pray. Keep us posted on how you all are doing.

My neice is allergic to almost everything, for what it's worth, when she started to throwup instead of getting hives and stop breathing the doc's thought that was progress.

That was my first thought too, but absolutely nothing since.

Phew! (that it was your first thought too!) and Phew! (that there's been nothing since).

Nits can be very hard to see, especially on blond/light brown hair, since the eggs are often sandy colour and the nits themselves greyish-brown, not easily detectable - and often the kids scratch first and the area can get scabby.

Let's hope that there continues to be absolutely nothing of anything!!

Oh, good, glad Gabby is doing OK. I she makes a full recovery today. Doesn't that just hurt your heart when something like that happens? I hate it.

Kat, I was gonna say psoriasis too. I have stress-induced psoriasis that I get on my hands. It itches a little, and can get kind of stingy if I've scratched it too much. But, it's not too bad, a very livable skin condition. Hopefully, he's just got some bug bites too. Those little stinkers love me and Jimmy too, but not so much Robert and Timmy. Hehe.

Any tips for dealing with a clingy baby?

The baby I look after is 1 year old and very clingy. I can't leave the room without her crying and when she is near me she wraps herself around my leg or neck (whatever she can reach). I pretty much have to spend my day sitting with her in my lap or holding her, which makes it hard to do things like tend to Akeelah or get lunch ready.

I've asked the mom if she is usually that clingy and she said sometimes. I know that the baby is having a hard time separating from her mom, because her mom had never left her with anyone until we started this three weeks ago.

I'm just not sure how best to deal with it. Akeelah has always been very independent and at that age she knew that she couldn't get anywhere with crying.

I would appreciate any help.

Can you wear her, Lexie, like in a baby backpack or wrap?

So how would you have dealt with Akeelah at that age if she cried? You said she knew she couldn't get anywhere with crying, so what did you do?

It has been a rough couple days... Please pray for Vivi- she is three years old and in a coma after falling in a pool (with tons of adults and family around- details are very unclear) and being without a pulse for 30 minutes. Her mom has been in my MOPS small group for the last two years and their family has been through the ringer (their 5 month old was almost lost as mom started dilating at 25 weeks at Thanksgiving, in February, big sis had a ruptured appendix that went undiagnosed and led to over two weeks in the hospital and major surgeries to clear infection, during which time little sister actually stayed in the oven one week late and arrived one day after big sis came home thanks to much prayer ). This is one of the sweetest families I have ever met and my heart is just breaking for them. Mom is optimistic and I am praying that that is God speaking to her. So while your little ones are making you nuts today and on your last nerve, give them a hug and thank God they are healthy enough to get into trouble- that's what I'll be doing today! (for my other rough patch, see bfing thread)

I'm praying for them, Jen. How scary.

Gabby is pretty much back to normal, she had chicken for dinner and some formula(first time in over 24 hours) in the night and everything has been staying down.

I'll pray too, Jen. Keep us updated?

Ryanne, glad Gabby is feeling better!

Lexie, the baby/toddler I watched (until his mom had another baby last August) was like that. I couldn't leave the room without him screaming, though I HAD to leave the room...to go to the furnace, to potty, to get lunch, etc. My own kids would continue playing happily and this kid who wasn't mine would scream his head off. It was very frustrating and nerve-wracking. I just did what I had to do and he wasn't happy about it. I don't have much advice for you really, as I never did find a solution, and I strongly believe this child is autistic, and not high-functioning (there were other things that pointed that way). Sadly, I was not sorry when his mother told me she wasn't going back to work after the baby was born. I only hope she is getting him the help he needs. It's because of this child that I am hesitant to take another daycare child.

Wow, Jen - thanks for telling us. I'm praying for them at this very moment.

Ryanne: I am so glad Gabby is feeling better!

Lexie: Sorry, I have no advice to give. :(

~~

I am tired. Jadon has been wanting to eat every 3 hours around the clock. 4, if I am lucky. I know it could be worse and I'm dealing with it just fine, but it's been hard getting up every 3 hours during the night. I don't know if this is a growth spurt or what. Normally he sleeps 6-7 hours during the night. He has been getting solid naps during the day so maybe that's why? He just fought sleep and fought sleep this morning until I laid him on his belly over his boppy on my lap, bopped my legs while patting his back and holding his head. Once he fell asleep he pretty much passed out. It's been almost 2 hours he's been sleeping and I think I hear him waking now.

Austa!

Wow Jae, I wish Nath would sleep 6-7 hours in the night. I think I can count on one hand how many times he has done 5 hours!! And Nath has been waking every 2 to 1.5 hours. SoI get ya on the tired side (solid sleep is the best!!), but Jadon is doing pretty good for a little fellow, and you are doing a good job too And I am sure there are parents who are saying their child sleeps worse then mine too

Jen- praying for your friend and her family

I'm trying to think back! By one year old Akeelah was very independent (she started walking at 9 months and soon after wanted to do everything on her own). I think part of it was just her nature. If she cried she got a firm no (as long as nothing was wrong). That was most often enough for her. We would ignore her if it continued. If the crying was really bad, she would get a time out in her crib, which worked. We started this early with Akeelah and tried to stay as consistent as we could.

I've tried the same thing with this baby, but the baby starts screaming and turns red. The other day, with my nephews helping it took an hour to get her to stop and one of us always had to have her in our arms. It's fine now, but eventually my nephews will have to go home.

Side note - Akeelah has roseola - poor thing, it looks awful!

Don't pick her up, put some music or the TV on nice and loud, or choose that moment to do the vacuuming. Or get some nice noisy toys to distract her (wooden spoon and saucepans is good!) Otherwise you're giving her the message that if she screams she will get lots of attention. Just be the same to her as you would have been with Akeelah.

Thanks Manda! We're trying to ignore her (man it's hard). Akeelah gave up after a few minutes, but this baby doesn't seem to be doing that. I think mom picks her up when she cries almost right away, so she is expecting the same here (baby, not mom).

Jae - that's cool about Jadon moving!!! I don't know if it's early, but I've definitely learned lately that our little babes will surprise the pants off of us with the things they do!
