(((Thrilled))) I'm so sorry.

Manda - I thought they were talking about bathing showers as well, not baby showers. I was wondering what could possibly go on in a women's shower that she needed her husband and a few other guys there

Ruth, yay for finding your mat clothes!

Arrgh, I have been having such a hard time sleeping lately. I'll wake up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and be up for hours, then I feel so grumpy the next day I want to take a break from myself!

On a happier note, Dave and I attended a kind of "what to expect" class at our birthing center last night, where I got to meet the third midwife who attends births there- they are all amazing and I am SOOOO thrilled about having switched from my OB practice!!!

Meanwhile, I am SECOND on the list???!!!!!

Megan, I know what you mean. I just love my midwife!! The care and time she invests in my pregnancy is awesome. In a way I am happy my former practice got rid of their midwives. I would've never found this one!

I have good news, I found out that our government recently decided to regulate Midwifery in our province, meaning it will be funded by our medicare. And they'll be allowed to practice in the hostpitals. Sooo, maybe by the next time I am pregnant, I will be able to have a midwife! I'm excited. Currently, there are only 5 midwives in the whole province. They are starting small and plan to add a couple a year.
I always thought I would like to have one, but never knew how I would be able to afford it.

Kathryn, how are you doing? I've now adopted you as my due date buddy, just a year apart

I just started drinking the orange stuff for my glucose test. Not nearly as bad as I was expecting. Although I might change my mind by the end of the bottle.

I have mine in a week and a half. I've been addicted to orange soda lately, maybe thats the flavor I should choose. No fair you can drink yours at home. I have to do mine in office. Though I also have an appt that day, so maybe I can drink it, then have my appt while I wait, so I dont sit there all bored for an hour.

I don't think the orange stuff is as bad as some people, but then, I like orange soda. It's not much different than that.

Mine tasted like melted Orange Jello. Not too bad but too great either.

Ew...was it cold? It really needs to be very cold, or so I've been told. And was there carbonation? Mine has some (not a lot), and that helped it be more like soda than melted Jello.

I think ours are chilled, I saw a girl with one one day and it looked like it was cold. I dont mind really sweet stuff so I really dont think it will be as bad as people let on.

Nope, it definitely wasn't as bad as people say. I didn't think it was bad at all, actually. I've had my drink in the fridge since my last appointment, so it was nice and cold. And it did have some carbonation. To me it was like orange soda and McDonald's orange drink mixed together. I wouldn't drink it for fun, but it wasn't bad. And it was nice having it at home. I drank it at 12:45, my appointment was for 1:45 so I got there around 1:35. I went back right away to give my sample, they caught me to take blood, I went right to my room and the doctor came in about 2 minutes later. It was 1:56 when I got in the car. Baby's heartbeat was still 150-160's. And moving all over the place, probably from all that sugar!

Slightly chilled Donna but not cold by standard definition.

I could drink it again if needed.. but I tend to let my Jello sit a bit to get a little thinner...

And I hate to say it, and I would never tell the m/w's but I totally cheated on my GD test.. I had eaten a full breakfast only an hour before my appt and then they wanted the GD done so I had like maybe hour and 45 minutes between big meal and the test. muhahahaha.

Yolanda,
Thanks for asking! I am doing well. Baby is well. I am loving the home visits with the midwife. We've gotten Nadia's room set up and she's moved, now to just get baby's room set up. That shouldn't take a whole lot. Just get the furniture back together. We went to a picnic today that had a pool and I swam and swam and swam. I felt so heavy when I got out! Now I know why women like to swim when they are pregnant!! It takes such weight off the bones. I had no idea I felt that heavy. It was nice. I enjoyed the picnic. It was with a bunch of pastors and their wives, so it was nice to be around people who didn't care what you looked like, just 'thorny' people like me.

Glad your appointment went well, purejoy. And fast, too!

I've always heard that swimming is good while pregnant, Kathryn, but I haven't tried it yet. I don't think my swimsuit would still fit and I don't really want to buy one when I'd probably only use it a few times. Sounds like you enjoyed swimming... maybe I'll give it a try on my next pregnancy

Did you know that you can't get private health insurance if you're an expecting father??? My poor husband spent hours on the phone this afternoon only to be told by everyone that he can't get insurance because I am pregnant, even though the baby will be on my health insurance. Who knew? Also, tomorrow was my original due date, so... it's been a long day

But... in one week, we get to see the baby again and we can find out the sex if we want to. It had better be a girl, because Gabe vetoed all 21 boys names on my list, but he only vetoed 30 of the 36 names on my girls list The other 6 he said "weren't too bad" I have a feeling we'll be on the way to the hospital, still trying to decide on a name

I had insurance frustrations when I was pregnant with Nadia. It's amazing the things they pull on you when you are pregnant. I always loved the line "pre-existing condition". Yeah, like I've always been pregnant! While it may feel like it, I know I haven't been.

And about the names, we were decided on a name for Nadia up until 2 weeks prior to her coming. Then one day I just changed my mind. Andrew knew better than to argue at that point. I knew a couple who had a first name, but not a middle name and was deciding pretty much until they left the hospital. I've even heard of people taking the name paper home (whatever that thing is called) because they couldn't decide on a name. One consolation, for Nadia's birth we had a ton of girl names, but no boys names, that was a big indicator to me that the baby was a girl. This time it was the other way around, we had a ton of boys names, but very little girls names. It's like whatever the gender was, we had no problem finding the name. So maybe this one will be a girl!!

Well, I have 5 brothers, so my mom would be thrilled to get a granddaughter I think she's still a little disappointed that I'm not having twins She always wanted twins for herself, but after 7 kids, she hadn't had any multiples, so she's told me she's praying that I'll have twins

Vivid Dreams - I keep having these really vivid dreams. Last night I dreamt of remarrying my ex-husband whom I have been divorced from for 6 years now. The hard part for me to get past is the emotions involved. I had this sense that our marriage would have worked out if I would have kept trying.

A week or so ago I had a sense of losing my 9 year old son. I awoke frightened and wanted to hug and cling to my son.

I have also had dreams of an ex-boyfriend from 3 years ago.

I realize that dreams are not real but I wake up feeling so emotional. I feel detached from my husband because I am thinking of these dreams and what was lost.

I am so tired of these kinds of dreams and don't know how to get past them after waking up.

Also, I am getting heartburn in the middle of the night like 4am. Has anyone experienced this? What should I do to get rid of it? I am not sleeping well with this combination of dreams and middle of the night heartburn. Ugh!

I thought I was weird because I actually enjoyed it. Although by the end of the bottle, it was getting kind of yucky.

Chelsea and Yolanda - that's great about midwifery being regulated. I didn't realize that some provinces hadn't done that!

When I have heartburn, it is usually the middle of the night also. I have to get up, take some Mylanta gelcaps (I can't handle chalky-textured meds ) with milk and then sit up until it works. If it works.

As for the dreams, I go through spurts of having awful dreams when pregnant too. Having worship music playing softly all night does help. I truly believe that satan knows pregnancy is a weakened state for many women and he tries to use this time to get ahold of us in different ways. I don't think (for me, anyway) that it is all hormonal. Pray before you go to bed.

Well, I haven't done this before, but in honor of being almost to the half-way point...

belly shot... I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow

I wasn't exactly skinny before getting pregnant, so some of that "belly" is me and not the baby

Praying for you today, Amy.
That's crazy about health insurance. If he's buying an individual policy, you and the baby *should* have nothing to do with it. I hope that works out for you, although I know what a pain that can be.
Good luck with the names, too! I felt the same way you did...sure that we'd have nothing on the way to the hospital! Surprisingly there was 1 boys name we agreed on and 3 girls' names. Guess we're good to go on the girls for awhile. You better tell him he needs to start finding some boys names that are acceptable since yours aren't. Then you'll at least have a list to start working off of.
And what a cute belly picture! You are such a cute pregnant lady!

Brandy- I love your new avatar! For my GD test, I could eat whatever I wanted until I actually drank the stuff. Then I just couldn't have anything until after they tested. So I ate lunch about an hour before I drank it.

Visitor- Sorry about the dreams and hearburn. I don't really have any suggestions for you, but just wanted to let you know I read your post and said a prayer!

We went to the lake today. It was so hot and I was alone with the kids all day, so when Brian got home, we packed up and went. I swam in a tank top and thin jammie pants. I've never been swimming this pregnant before...it was WONDERFUL! And the weirdest feeling for the baby to be moving in water while I was moving in water! I'm having quite a few BH now...almost like that baby wanted out while we were in the water! LOL

Does anyone know if it's safe to labor in a lake? It's not a gross, scummy lake. I'm thinking as long as my water hasn't broken, it should be okay, right? I told Brian if it is hot when I am in labor, we're so going to the lake!

Oh, and it's a Christian camp ground, with lots of other big families (though it was just us and one other little girl in there today), so it's a wonderful atmosphere too. All very modest, no alcohol, no crude talk, etc. I love it there.
