Hey there, friends. This is my first blog, so bear with me... My blogging will likely span many topics. I am a Mom of three, a wife, and an active member in our church. I like to take pictures with our digital camera and scrapbook. I like to travel when we can. Oh, and I love to write. I like to share funny stories of things that happen. They say smiles are contagious; if so, I hope to spread a little sunshine!... We are considering taking a vacation to Pigeon Forge, TN this summer. If anyone has been there and has any tips, vacation ideas, etc.; I'd be grateful. We're looking for family friendly things to do and most of all some relaxation. Any comments on Dollywood, the Dixie Stampede or The Comedy Barn? I've heard those are the highlights. Has anyone stayed in cabins there? We took a trip to MD and D.C. last month. The kids loved the Air & Space Museum, the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the National Zoo, an old fort, and, of course, seeing the monuments. My 8 yr. old thought one of the best parts of the trip was riding the subway in D.C. :) (He didn't have to wear a seat belt and he got to stand up and hold onto the metal pole!) It's the little things in life that bring the greatest joy, isn't it? We got to see lots of family as well. The main mission of the trip was genealogy research; but we managed to throw in fun extras. I got to meet two distant cousins I'd never met before, who are also into genealogy research. So, it was a very rewarding experience. The best part of my research was getting photographs from various relatives. They are treasures for sure. I am so very thankful for the grace and mercy of the Lord, who took my place! I am grateful for the godly heritage I have; and have served the Lord for 33 years now and there's no turning back! Why would I want to? There's a contemporary Christian song that has a line in it that says, "This world has nothing for me." That so resonates within me. Although there are many joys in this life, I just know the BEST IS YET TO COME! :) My passion is to be the best wife possible and to raise my children in the way they should go so when they are old they won't depart from it! My oldest has flown the coup. He's 19 and engaged to be married. I miss him so much and pray for him every day. Now, I have two at home still and cherish them. Well, I've written a lot today. (more than I thought I would!) ... More tomorrow. Be blessed. "Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise His holy name: Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things He does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle's! ~ Psalm 103:1-5 NLT

Good morning, all. I hope you're doing well. I thought I'd share some of my favorite books (outside of the Bible). They are: The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren; Twelve Ordinary Men by John MacArthur; What's So Amazing About Grace? by Phillip Yancey; The Battle Is The Lord's by Tony Evans; Fasting by Jentezen Franklin; Rebel With a Cause & The Name - both by Franklin Graham. I hated to read when I was in school; but as an adult, I have read countless books and loved it! I'm primarily into non-fiction; but have read the Thomas Kinkade, Jan Karon and a couple of the Lori Wick novels. Sean Hannity's book, Let Freedom Ring, was also good. Lt. Carey Cash wrote an amazing book called A Table In The Presence. Barbara Bush: A Memoir was a neat read also. I have a few books I'll start reading soon. One is 90 Minutes in Heaven by Don Piper and another is Bad Girls of the Bible by Liz Curtis Higgs. I was watching Hannity & Colmes last night on Fox and they interviewed two guys who have a book out. They were hilarious! The book is called Rick & Bubba For President. They both are Christians and talk about the fact that they're not happy with any of the candidates and changes they'd like to see. Obviously, they're not really running for President, but I think their main objective is to wake people out of their slumber and spread their zeal for the great country they feel America can be again. I might check out their book. Something else I wanted to share... My husband & I are going to start going through this Bible reading program called The Bible in 90 days. Have you heard of it? I hadn't until I saw the gentleman being interviewed on TBN several weeks ago who founded the program. I think it is an excellent idea. I'm quite sure I've read all or most of the Bible through many times, but not in a precise and targeted method. So, we're really excited about doing this. It is easy to "fall off the wagon" with reading the Bible in a year. This program has you reading 12 pages a day and in 90 days, you will have read the entire Bible. They say that with reading such large chunks at a time, you'll gain deeper perspective of the continuity of the Scriptures. I can see where that would be true. I'm a type A personality; so this definitely has its appeal to me. I will receive much satisfaction in knowing I have completed the task! :) Also, with this program, one could read the Bible through four times each year. Wow! That's incredible! Today is a busy day with quite a few errands to run. I'll leave you with these words of life: "A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." ~Ephesians 6:10-17

Hello again! I'm back in from running my errands and thought I'd write a little before dinner. I think we're going to go out to a Chinese restaurant tonight. The house is pretty quiet. It's just my 8 yr. old son & I at home at the moment. My 10 yr. old daughter is visiting my sister in PA for a week. What will I ever do with myself? I'll catch up on my scrapbooking and relax! That's what! I am not much of a t.v. watcher generally; but I plan on watching some old Jerry Lewis movies I bought tonight. I especially liked Bellboy from what I can remember anyway. I'll let you know after tonight. I enjoy comedies very much. Bill Cosby is funny and I've read his books. Of course, I used to love watching The Cosby Show too. Lucy was a genius and George Burns and Gracie Allen were classic! :) It was and has been in the upper 80's here. Florida has two seasons pretty much... Hot and Hotter! Thank God for the A/C and ceiling fans! My husband is from the South Pacific, so he loves a more tropical climate. I was born and raised up north, so I'm still expecting the seasons to change; which, they never do! After living in Florida for almost 10 years, I still anticipate a winter. I don't know why; must be a biological thing. The only way we know it's a different season is the interior decor change. In the fall, one might set out fall flowers in a vase; toward winter, we start decorating for Christmas. (which by the way, we do in our shorts!) We have to crank up the Christmas carols to really get in the mood! :) But, who's complaining? It's just different. I mentioned my husband being from the South Pacific... I've told my husband that God brought him literally around the world to answer my prayer for a husband. One day I was looking at the globe and I put my finger on the U.S. and on the direct opposite side of the globe is where he came from! Amazing! There is no distance in prayer, is there? That might explain why we are diametrically opposite in so many areas. We have a deep and abiding love for one another. On a lighter note... The health food store was one of my stops to make today and I got some wheat grass. We've been out of it for a month now and we've noticed a big difference. I can't wait to start taking it again. It gives me a lot of energy and makes my mind sharp. I'm not very knowledgeable about extensive natural remedies and health food supplements; but I'm hoping to learn more. I also bought some multi-vitamins for the kids there. I'm in the middle of doing laundry right now and want to get it done tonight, so I can chill all weekend! We've been so busy lately, I sure could use some down time. Next Friday night, we're having two families over from church for a potluck. I'm making a big crock pot of chili to spoon over hard shell tacos and top with cheese, sour cream and chives. Yum! We often host big get-togethers and love the fellowship. The challenge is that each couple has at least two children each usually. We've had 50 people over one time; but that was for my husband's surprise birthday party. We always enjoy playing games and just being together with friends. Oh, I came across these quotes earlier today and wanted to pass it along: "Attitude is not everything; it's the only thing." "Life is 10% what happens and 90% of how we react to it." "Attitude -- not aptitude -- determines your altitude." -Zig Ziglar ~ That is so true, isn't it? We can choose to have a good life or a negative life. The matter is decided in the mind. I decided early on that I would enjoy life no matter what. Afterall, it's a gift from God. Sometimes, we have the mindset that when all the stars line up and we hit the lottery and every detail in life is just how we've always imagined it... THEN, we will have found true happiness. We short-change ourselves if we really think that way. Why not enjoy right now, this very moment; for we do not know when it may be our last. God has given each of us many talents and abilities; and it's up to us to use those to bless others. We have the awesome responsibility to use all that we have to bless those around us, our family, our friends, and even strangers. "Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters. Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!" - Hebrews 13:2 Be blessed.

Good morning, friend. I thought I'd write a little now before I settle into my "Chill Out" day. :) That whole concept of doing nothing is pretty foreign to me. Actually, it takes a concerted effort on my part to pull it off. I told my younger son that he and I will have a movie day today, so he is excited. I can remember when my 19 year old was 8. He was so cute and so placid. He still is laid back in personality; but he's all grown up now. It's as if you blink... and it's time for them to sprout wings and fly! It happens so gradually that you hardly notice it's happening at all, it seems. Kind of like boiling a frog, slowly turning up the temperature. Well, okay, nothing like that. But, life has a way of turning the pages of time before your mind has time to fully grasp it sometimes. I guess that's where I am. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's on his way to becoming an adult and establishing his identity, etc. I just miss him. I was telling a friend recently that the heart of a parent never stops thinking of their child. Now, that child may not be thinking of their parents always, but that child is never far from his/her parent's thoughts. That's just the heart of a parent. Then, the Lord brought to my mind that is the heart of our Heavenly Father as well. He's always thinking of us. Did you know that YOU are on God's mind today, my friend? Yes, it's true. The Bible says that His thoughts of us are more plenteous than the very grains of sand of the sea. It also says that He daily is making intercession on our behalf. That means God is praying for you today, friend! That is a humbling thought and an encouraging one, isn't it?! If no one else on this earth is praying for you, God is praying for you and that makes all the difference in the world. After going through a very difficult period and praying for my husband throughout the day on a continual basis, I asked him, "Do you pray for me every day"? I think he was taken back because he hesitated to answer. In the busy-ness of his work day and the stress of life, sometimes he forgets. I said, "Do you realize that you may be the only person in this world who is praying for me? I need your prayers!" How we all need the prayers of others. The Bible talks about God searching for those who would "stand in the gap" for others. My 8 yr. old son is a live wire and keeps me hopping or is that hoping? Hopping - because he's always up to "something" and that something is not always a good something! Hoping - because I'm getting too old for this and I'm hoping he'll settle down a little and remember just half of the things I've taught him! Half because I am convinced half of what I say goes in one ear and out the other anyway. So, I won't hold him accountable for the information that is MIA. Smile. He's a real comedian, though, and a joy (most of the time)! My 10 yr. old girl is very bright and precocious. When she was about three years old, she would stand in our driveway and wave at the passing cars, whether we knew those neighbors or not. I used to joke and say that she was saying to them, "Hi, vote for me, vote for me." She's always been so outgoing; it amazes me that she just doesn't seem to be afraid of too much. But then, she's like her father. Look out world because she's a born leader! I was looking out front at my flower beds and I really want to weed and transplant some bushes and plants. It's supposed to be 80 degrees today and says it feels like 83 with 77% humidity. I usually do the gardening in the evening; otherwise, the heat just zaps you! I'll probably get out there next week. I spread about 15 more bags of red mulch a few weeks ago. It always looks so nice right after you put it down. We'll be getting the concrete curbing put in around the flower beds hopefully within the next month. This will stop the grass from crossing "the line"! We have St. Augustine grass and it is very thick and very stubborn! It does very well here in Florida, though. My impatiens are going crazy out there. In fact, I have about 5 of them that I'm thinking about replacing because they're beginning to look like bushes and are getting too large for the space. I think I put Miracle Gro on them or something similar when I planted them last October. They have hung in there. Of course, we only had about four days of winter, so it wasn't too much for them. I also have heather, some grassy plants that thrive here, and some daisies. Now, my daisies are looking like they're on steroids! I'm going to clip some of them and try to root them in some water. I'm going to have to share them or plant them elsewhere. Flowers are so cheerful. Gardening is a lot of work; but the end result is so rewarding. My husband takes care of the lawn, the mowing and fertilizing. He edges and trims. We have a riding mower, so it doesn't take long and he's done. Sometimes, he'll mow the neighbor's lawn next door; and they'll edge for us. That was a great arrangement! I've got to run now, but want to leave this with you ~ "I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God." ~ Psalm 40:1-3 NLT

Good evening all! We just got back in from going out to an Amish restaurant for dinner since it was just the three of us. Why bother cooking? Afterall, I really don't like to cook. I think it stems from having to cook, clean, and do all things domestic at such a young age... I'm burned out. At any rate, I do cook; but always take dear husband up on the offer to eat out. My husband ordered grilled chicken, green beans and a salad. I had chicken and dumplings with green beans and cheesy potatoes, which, by the way, was the best part. My son ordered a cheeseburger and fruit. We split the peanut butter chocolate pie, which was delicious! My son got a bowl of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup on it. Yummy -- all! Of course, we are in the south, so we drank sweet iced tea! Funny, once you cross the North Carolina line heading into Virginia, most restaurants only have unsweetened tea. I ask you, what good is that? Once it's cold, all the sugar dives to the bottom like a coin in a water fountain! It's a little comical when I risk asking if they have sweet tea up north. The look on their face says it all... as if I"M from another planet! :) Yes, I love sweet tea; but not too sweet. Just not unsweetened so it tastes like you're sucking on the tea bag, for goodness' sake! My brother-in-law puts about 1/8 of a cup of sugar, if that, in a gallon of tea when he makes it. What's the point? I like about 3/4 of a cup of sugar because I make strong tea. So, there you have it. That's my take on tea! Aren't you glad you didn't ask? We did watch Bellboy and Errand Boy today; and it wasn't quite as funny as I remembered. My son sat there motionless, though, so those two are now my favorites for that reason alone! :) We started to watch The Nutty Professor; but I wandered off to do scrapbooking and he decided to watch something else. I'm doing an album for each child; and I am working on the second one for each of them now. They fill up fast! I only started scrapping about four years ago, so I've accomplished a lot in that they're all up to date. I never considered myself creative enough to take up scrapbooking, but decided to delve in after being inspired by a neighbor's scrapbooks. Also, bearing in mind the fact that I am the third of four in the family, and do not have a lot of pictures of myself growing up, I wanted my kids to have a keepsake. Now, I will not actually give the albums to them until they are married, probably have kids of their own, and sign a pledge to hereby guard, protect, and honor these albums until death causes them to part! Fellow scrappers know exactly why I am saying that! A lot of work and time and most of all, love, goes into such albums! I don't know if you noticed in my signature the song, Amazing Grace. The line is from the extra verse that Chris Tomlin wrote and I absolutely love it! I love praise and worship music (like Hosanna Integrity) and contemporary Christian music. I recently got Israel Houghton & New Breed's newest album, Deeper. That is the album to put on if you have a lot of housework to do! Crank it up and sing along! (Israel is the praise & worship leader at Joel Osteen's church now. You may have seen him lead worship on t.v.) I'm a big fan of Phillips, Craig & Dean too. I really like a wide variety of Christian music. I like Newsboys, Chris Tomlin, and others. We are fortunate to have two great Christian music radio stations here, which we listen to a lot. I also like hymns. The words are so powerful and seem to take one back to the basics, yet they're profound. These are my favorite hymns (at least the ones I could think of for now): Amazing Grace (big surprise there, but it says it all!); How Great Thou Art; Oh, The Blood of Jesus; It Is Well; The Old Rugged Cross and In The Garden. I am so thankful today for all the many blessings God has bestowed on myself and our family! I try to cultivate a thankful heart in not only myself, but our children also. I used to work in a corporate office and found it very easy to join in with all of the complaining that went on. Everyone had a complaint of some sort; someone else to blame. Complaining should come with a warning label -- "Highly Contagious"! ... and "Lethal With Prolonged Exposure"! It's far too easy to complain about circumstances, family, and the list goes on into infinity and beyond! It takes deliberate resolve to respond with a thankful heart instead of being ungrateful. Kind of like the song, It Is Well... "Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control, that Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and hath shed His own blood for my soul"! It's a challenge to turn a complaint into a prayer; but a far more effective approach. It is there we ask for God's intervention and release His power into the situation. God can do far more with a "Help, Lord" prayer than if we keep the situation held tightly in the fist of complaints. "I love you, Lord; you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies." ~ Psalm 18:1-3

Good afternoon, friends. Hope you're having a blessed day. I just got in from church and it is always a blessing to connect with fellow believers! There we find encouragement and strength for the journey, don't we? Today we had a baby dedication, received new members into the church, and had communion. It was a packed service; but very sweet. I'm listening to the "Days of Elijah" c.d. by Integrity Music as I'm writing this and it is so good. The whole c.d. is great; but I especially am ministered to by the song, "At The Foot of the Cross" by Kathryn Scott. If you haven't heard it, maybe you can google it and listen to a clip of it. The lyrics are: At the foot of the cross Where grace and suffering meet You have shown me Your love Through the judgment You received And You've won my heart Yes You've won my heart Now I can Trade these ashes in for beauty And wear forgiveness like a crown Coming to kiss the feet of mercy I lay every burden down At the foot of the cross At the foot of the cross Where I am made complete You have given me life Through the death You bore for me I'm laying every burden down I'm laying every burden down. Wow! That song says it all. Because of God's great love for you and me, we have been restored to right relationship with God. Through the Cross, we can lay our heavy burdens down and trust that God is working all things together for our good and for His glory! I love the line that says, "at the foot of the cross where I am made complete". That really speaks to me because sometimes we can feel that we may not measure up or we carry around life's scars and hurts or just the plain baggage of this life ... but because of the mercy and grace of Jesus, we are made whole, complete in every way, lacking nothing. Wow! "Wide Open Wonder"! I plan on scrapping a little this afternoon and then just relaxing. My husband plans on hanging at least one ceiling fan this afternoon. We've been in this house for a year and he's hung 4 fans so far -- 3 to go. I'm thankful he is so handy; but projects tend to take some time. :) When I think back to when we were newlyweds and he talked about fixing the sink in the house we were renting from our Pastor at the time... I recall visions of Bill Cosby with his tool belt on (from The Cosby Show) and every time he tried to fix something, he wound up making it worse, and they had to call a professional in the end. Back then, my husband didn't know a whole lot about plumbing, etc.; but over the years, he's learned a lot about home repairs. I'm proud of him and his determination. A few weeks ago the kids and I got in the truck to go somewhere and I pushed the remote to close the garage. To my disbelief, I saw our garage door close at the bottom, but cave in at the top of the track. I quickly called my husband and told him he better come home and take a look at it. I told him that we'd have to call the garage door repairman. Well, he came home and put the rollers back together, which had come apart all over the garage floor and put them back on the tracking and tightened everything. Good as new! Whenever I doubt that he'll be able to fix something, he always says, "Oh, ye of little faith"! :) ... He's right. I talked with the third family that we invited to join us for the potluck on Friday and they will be able to come afterall. So, we'll have 6 adults and 6 children, besides our family. That should be a nice group. Friends are one of life's greatest assets. We have gone through periods where we haven't had good Christian friends and I can tell you that it is difficult when you don't have others to share life with. What a blessing true friendship is! (especially when you don't have any family close by!) I used to think that I'd invite people over when the house looked perfect, or when I became a chef, or when we weren't tired, etc.; but then realized that those things may never happen. So, we might as well start enjoying life NOW! Sometimes it's just making that initial effort to forge friendships. Sometimes people are just waiting to connect, but afraid to reach out. Real friends won't care if you have blue painter's tape over 18 panes of glass on French doors for two years, waiting for the staining to be completed. And, they won't care if your walls have had the baseboards ripped off, but not replaced for two or three years either. I have to laugh now because it used to really get me. I was so happy when we put that house on the market (for sale) because that lit a fire under a "certain someone" to complete the projects! By the way, it did all get done. Not in my timing; but it did get done! I hope you all have a wonderful and restful afternoon! Be blessed. "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light." Good morning, friends. It's Monday! ... a new day, a new week. "THIS is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!" I'm watching my friend's little girl for four days this week. My 8 yr. old enjoys playing with her. They were just building with big Legos and now she's playing with stuffed animals and watching "Lord of the Beans" (Veggie Tales). We'll go run an errand later on. I threw in a load of laundry this morning and made up the beds. I really could have stood to have another cup of coffee this a.m. But, I made iced tea, so that will perk me up, hopefully. :) I was reading in Proverbs 13:20 this morning and it says, "Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble." That reminded me of Psalm 1: "Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit in every season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do." (vs. 1-3 NLT) I often take the kids to a park nearby and there is a huge lake with a walking trail all around it. I think it is about 2 miles in diameter. We've walked it several times; but the kids mostly like to play on the playground there or walk around under the huge trees in the picnic area. I like to sit at the picnic table and look out across the lake with the sun glistening on it so brightly. There are small trees they've planted around the edges of part of the lake. They bring Psalm 1 to mind every time I see them. I always think about the verse that says, "And, you shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water." (KJ) Those trees would die if they didn't receive water. We, too, would die spiritually without "drinking from the living water". Those trees could easily be blown over by the strong winds we get during hurricane season if their roots are not deep and secure. How do we then ensure that our roots go down deep, that we won't be blown over by the storms of life or temptations in this world? Our spiritual lives must hinge on studying the Word of God, for it is life to all that find it. "The Word of God is quick and powerful; sharper than any two-edged sword." (Hebrews 4:12) It corrects us when we need correcting and it sustains us during the dark hours. It also defends us against the enemy of our soul. The Word says that "We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony." (Rev. 12:11) What are you saying today, my friend? A lady at church yesterday was saying that her husband, upon hearing that a friend had just gotten a bad cold, said, "Well, that just means I'll get it next." I thought what a strange thing to expect. (almost as if he wanted it to be so) Proverbs 18:21 says that the "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." If you say anything long enough, you find yourself believing it even if it's not true. I think it has to be one of life's biggest challenges to not say something negative even though it might be tempting. It's kind of like when I tell my kids not to talk if they don't have something nice to say. The Bible talks about bridling the tongue and how it's the hardest member to steer. I heard Mike Murdock say a long time ago, "Thought and Talk make anything bigger." That is so true. It's not the mere act of speaking; but it is directly linked to our attitude, expectancy and faith. When we say things, we begin to expect that they will happen. (good or bad) I think this all can go back to staying in the Word and filling up your mind with good things. The amazing thing about the Word is that it's not just a book. It is Alive! John 1:1 says, "In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God." So, if we want to know God... we must read His Word. The Pastor's wife was talking about the word discipline yesterday morning at the opening of the service and how it is not a popular word. There's a scripture that says that discipline is not pleasant, but in the end you will reap its benefits. How true is that? She said, "If you're not disciplined in the Word, you'll go around all day being controlled by your flesh." We don't like to hear about discipline too much. It's too defined, isn't it? We live in a culture that is so wishy-washy, so "Just Do It" oriented. Whatever feels good; whatever is convenient... Do it. That is in direct conflict with the life that God wants for us. It's not to withhold fun from us, but to mold and shape us into His image and likeness. I encourage you today, my friend, get to know God on a deeper level today. Read His Word and ask Him to speak to you as you do. He's not this aloof God that wants to remain distant. No, He's our loving, Heavenly Father, who desires to commune with you more than you can imagine. He's crazy about you! When I think about how very much I love my children, it's hard to comprehend a greater love. But, the Bible says that God has loved us with an everlasting love and it far outweighs any human love! I pray that you can find a moment to reflect on God's love for you today. It is only when we grasp that love, that we're in a position to display it to a lost and dying world, who desperately need Jesus. Well, it's time to throw that load of laundry into the dryer. Have a great day! ~Crazedmom P.S. That c.d. by Israel Houghton is called "A Deeper Level". (I previously called it "Deeper".) :)

Good morning! We had a very busy day yesterday with babysitting, etc. The little girl is cute as a button and a bundle of non-stop energy! Whew! We had a good day, though. I forgot how very short the attention span of a three year old is! And, she's excited about everything! It's a cute age. I asked her what the name of her puppy was (stuffed animal) and she said, "Roast Beef". I thought I didn't hear correctly, so I had her say it again. :) Then I asked what the name of the other puppy was and she said, "Oh, his name is Roast Beef too"! I cracked up. She said, "Yea, that's the name of my horse at home too." We invited the parents of my side kick (the 3 yr. old) over for dinner last night, so that was nice to visit with them. My husband helped me clean up the kitchen after they left and we all quickly got on our p.j.'s and headed to bed! I think we were tired! It didn't take long for my son to konk out. I gave him some cold medicine and he went right to sleep. Saturday night we'll go with 2 other families to a drive-in movie theater to watch a cartoon. We've never been to this drive-in, but our friends go often and they love it. Hopefully the bugs won't be too bad. We'll have to be sure to bring some repellent. Mosquitos really come out at night here. I'm sure our son will have a good time seeing the movie. We're trying to do more family activities to create lots of fun memories for the kids. Next week our denomination has their annual inter-church revival services. We're going to try to make it at least one night. My son has basketball camp during the day all next week. He's looking forward to that, which I'm glad of. He doesn't know anyone else who is going, but I'm sure he'll quickly make friends. Our daughter comes back home on Sunday. I have really missed her. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder", right? The house is so quiet without her here and I seem to have more free time on my hands, which is very odd. She is a real blessing to our family, but she keeps me busy! I was telling my husband last night how amazing it is that one person can add so much more to a household. She is very theatrical and was born for drama! She has to have something to do every second or you'll begin to hear those dreaded words, "I'm bored". A friend and I were talking the other day about this and agreeing that we rarely (if ever) said this to our parents. If we had, they would've said, "Go outside and play or do some chores". In short, it wasn't their job to occupy or entertain us. Kids can get so dependent on constant stimulation through t.v. and video games, that they don't know how to relax or just read a book. Our daughter can entertain herself, though. She loves to sing with her karaoke machine and read also. She's very social, so she prefers to be around people. She's very hospitable when we have company, and it's neat to see her interacting with our guests. She's always thinking of their needs and how to make them feel comfortable. She's also a good conversationalist, even with adults. Gotta run for now. I need to thaw some chicken for dinner; clean a bathroom; write out two get-well cards and one graduation card; do some Bible reading; iron some work shirts for my husband; confirm a play date for Thursday with a friend; pay some bills... and that's just this morning. :) "Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed." Proverbs 11: 24-25 NLT Be blessed. ~Crazedmom

Good evening everyone! I trust you had a great day today. I was just reading a financial article online that said Americans are driving less than they have in 40 years because of the gas prices. Isn't that unreal? I know I've cut down on my discretionary driving. Some friends of ours are going to be carpooling (husband & wife) starting next week. It makes you get creative, doesn't it? I wonder how many vacation plans the price of gas will affect as well. Our local economy is suffering because of the housing market primarily. It's incredible how many jobs here are tied to the housing industry. Professionals who used to be realtors are now working in other fields because nothing is selling. When my husband had to take a trip to the ER a few months back, the lady working in admitting said she used to be a realtor. It's a little sad because when the market was red hot, they were raking in the dough. Hopefully, they saved some of that! I know a lot of people who used to build houses have now gone into landscaping as an alternate field for the moment. I guess if you get a number of commercial accounts, you can survive well doing that. Landscaping is a big deal here. We have a friend who is a realtor and he is focusing more on peddling some financial products for now. When the market was at its peak, everybody and their brother was a realtor. In fact, you didn't even have to be a realtor to sell a house fast and in a hurry! We just had entirely too much inventory here than the market could support. Some people blame the lenders. Some blame the builders for being overly zealous. Some blame the speculators, also known as investors. I actually think there's a lot of blame to go around. I blame the local county commisioners and their boards. How could they approve building plans for such a high volume of housing in a fairly small radius (in some cases)? How did they think that thousands would buy new houses in a one to three year span? I read somewhere that they were working off of old numbers. That in reality, less people have statistically moved to FL annually. The statistic used to be that 1,000 people move here every day. I don't know how or if that is true. It seems a little overstated at face value. It has obviously been a favorite retirement destination among babyboomers for some time. The two main reasons are the climate and no state tax. Some have said that instead of moving to FL, many are moving to TN (which also enjoys no state tax), GA or NC. I haven't heard anyone holding the local officials and their planning experts accountable for the complete over saturation of our housing market here. I realize we have a nationwide problem; however, the scope and magnitude of our "housing disaster" could have been minimized with more restraint and a little conservative planning. I'm thinking the boards must've seen dollar signs for their respective counties because here we pay property taxes based on the purchase price of the home. Whatever your purchase price times the percentage they have in their formula, that is the property tax you will pay for the entire term that you own that home. Needless to say, we pay a lot in property taxes. This is why there has been such a public outcry to reduce them. I've read in the paper that many have chosen to move out of state because the tax and insurance burden is too great. On the homeowner's insurance side of the issue, if you shop around, you can find somewhat reasonable rates. Homework equals savings. We have many houses in every subdivision I know of with "For Sale" signs spattered throughout. And, that is with the owners, who aren't as desperate, taking theirs off the market until it turns around! (like our next door neighbor) Many homeowners are renting their home out and biding their time. Some can't afford to do that and are doing short sales or foreclosing altogether. We have some friends who are filing bankruptcy because they can no longer afford their primary home plus a small investment home. We hurt for them. There is one subdivision not too far, where over 90% of the homes in there were purchased by investors. The majority of those are now rentals or are sitting empty. As you can see, this is a widespread issue that has had far reaching effects. Some say we'll begin to see the market turn around in a few years. Others contend that the real estate market operates in seven year cycles. I'm thinking at this point that because of the scope of this dilemma, we're probably not going to see our local market rebound for at least 4 or 5 more years, minimum. ... Let us pray. Well, that's my take on our real estate market... at least for today. No matter the uncertainties in this life, God is our Strong Tower; and He remains Faithful and True! Hope you have a great night! ~Crazedmom "The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need." Psalm 23:1 NLT

Good morning! I thought I was going to sleep in slightly today, but a wrong number got me out of bed. Maybe it's just as well... Did you watch the news last night as Barak Obama became the Democratic nominee? I listened to Hillary Clinton's speech, in which she touted all she'd accomplished throughout the campaign. Then, Obama gave his speech, where he declared victory, despite the fact that Clinton did not concede such to him. I had a flashback to the beginning of the Iraq war. Remember "Bagdad Bob", the "Minister of Misinformation"? He was one of Saddam Hussein's top leaders. I remember him vehemently denying the fact that U.S. tanks were rolling into Bagdad. As he was speaking on t.v., you could see a procession of tanks rolling along behind him. He had such a straight face and was not about to accept defeat, despite the facts. Well, that kind of reminds me of the current Democratic primary. It's all over but the shoutin', but Clinton will save that drama for another day. Some say she's applying for the position of VP. I'm thinking that Obama would be foolish to ruin his chances by dragging in baggage from the 90's. As Obama was speaking, I found myself getting entirely frustrated with the endless promises he offered if elected. He promised health insurance for every American. I'm wondering if people really want this? Yes, it's sad that so many do not have health insurance, however, lest we get too caught up in the euphoria, let's take a look at Canada. Do we want to wait two years for a simple operation or get approval (HMO style) for other procedures? This is not to mention the cost. Yes, there is a cost. Nothing in this life is free, except air and love. People love the sound of "free"; but surely they realize there will be a price. Do we want to increase taxes? Do we want a more socialized government? Is government really supposed to solve all of our problems? He really is playing to those who feel "entitlement". Obama also promised that the government would create jobs and played on the sympathies of those out of work. He may not have reallized that unemployment rates are currently down. Maybe he's hoping his followers don't know that. But, since when did it become the government's job to create employment? It has been said that small businesses are what drives the American economy. What happened to hard work, determination, drive, and ingenuity?? And, how exactly would the government go about creating jobs? This one is the kicker, though. Obama promised that we would resolve to be firm diplomats regarding foreign policy that the world would finally know where America stands. Of course, he added his bit about being engaged in a war that should've never been started. And, then he said that "We're no better off today because of it". Wow! Does he really believe that? I'm thinking, "Is he knocking Condoleezza Rice, the Secretary of State and her diplomatic efforts?" (By the way, the book, "Condi", was excellent! She is brilliant.) Does the world not know where America stands? Does he think that we haven't attempted at diplomatic measures? Or is he playing to those anit-war folks and Bush-haters? I couldn't believe he said that we're no better off because of the war. Have we been attacked post 9-11? Does he not believe there were training camps for Al Qaeda or that it was a breeding ground for hatred against America? Does he not realize we've severely reduced Al Qaeda's power? Why didn't we think of having a tea party and discussing baseball with Saddam Hussein? Yes, we should vote for him because he has fresh ideas for "change". Nobody likes war. And, this war has seemingly dragged on. There are no perfect wars. This one has proved to be complicated and highly emotional. The fact remains that sometimes war is the only answer. If you're not willing to fight for the American ideals, what will you fight for? Is America supposed to be a doormat? I'm wondering what kind of change he would bring to the table, if elected president? Change. Well, according to him, he'd change everything and all within four years! Amazing! If he did, it would certainly be ground breaking. Some people may not be too sure about his allegiances, though, at this point. His 20 year church membership and affiliations with Rev. Wright should cause some alarm. He says he's a bridge to bring people together, but do his alliances betray his speech? They say, "Actions speak louder than words." Where has he been for 20 years? You can't have it both ways, Obama. You either are a bridge-gapper or a one-way street. The question is, "Where does this street lead to"? That is the question voters must come to terms with. As for the Republican side... I think I'll vote for Rick & Bubba for President! Until later... Be blessed. ~Crazedmom "What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people He has chosen as his inheritance." Psalm 34:12

Hope you all had a great day. We did some grocery shopping today. I didn't have my little "side kick" (the girl I'm babysitting) today; but will on Thurs. & Fri. Tomorrow, we're having a friend and her 3 kids over for lunch and a visit. I have a Stouffer's meal in the oven now. My son is outside playing football with a neighbor. He'll be ripe when he comes in, for sure! It's good for him, though, to get some of his energy out! I read a book today in a matter of two sittings and really enjoyed it. I've adopted a new habit of highlighting the points that speak to me, as I'm reading. I also highlight words I don't know, so I can look them up later. I guess you could call it "active reading". What a rarity to have a few moments to call my own; but I have so enjoyed some quiet time today! I was thinking (I know a dangerous thing, right?) ... Anyway, I was thinking about the "American Dream" today. Don't ask how I started on that train of thought. I guess it probably had something to do with Democrats promising to deliver everything under the sun on a silver platter to every American... At any rate, I promptly thought of my husband. He came to this country just out of high school, didn't have a working knowledge of the English language, and owed his uncle for his airfare here, plus interest. He paid that once he got a job. He taught himself to speak English. Today if you spoke with him on the phone or in person, you would never know he lived anywhere else. He was determined to overcome his challenge, to become part of the American society, and to find success. He attended college, but didn't finish. That's when we met; maybe I distracted him. He's had many jobs; but if there is one common thread it is diligence. If there was ever something he didn't know, he made it his top priority to find out and to excel in whatever the task at hand was. His life could be summed up in this sentence: He didn't take no for an answer. He never gives up. He came to this country with a goal in mind to succeed and to make something of his life, despite his beginnings. It wouldn't determine his end. He came from extreme poverty in a third world country, with a desire for a better life. He didn't find it. It wasn't handed to him. He never went on welfare. The government didn't assist him. No, he made it happen. The difference between winning and losing or settling is: vision, risk, goals, and determination. My husband has all of those qualities and implements them on a daily basis. While he has attained a measure of success, he has big dreams and goals. My point is that we believe if you work hard, you have a vision or a dream, you can find success. Success doesn't always mean wealth (though often it does); but I think it has more to do with satisfaction with one's life. God gives us all talents, skills and abilities. It's up to us to push all of the easy excuses to the side and determine that we're going to give it our best shot. In America, we have the freedom and infrastructure to make any dream come true. We really are the most blessed nation on the face of the earth. I think sometimes we need to be reminded of that. The economy may be sluggish in some areas; but overall, we are far better off than any other country. God has blessed this nation and I am so thankful for the freedoms we enjoy! Have a wonderful evening! ~Crazedmom "Teach me your decrees, O Lord; I will keep them to the end. Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart. " Psalm 119:33-34 NLT

Good morning, friends. I was just thinking of the tax stimulus package deal and what we are going to do with it. Have you gotten your rebate yet? If so, have you decided what you'll use it for? So many options, not enough dough to spread around, right? It's kind of like winning a small lottery or getting an inheritance check. Unexpected money. The sound of it is oh, so sweet. But, what will you do with it? I've thought about putting it towards the landscaping curbing we'll have done, or towards our vacation, or towards a bill, or I know, towards Christmas gifts... My list is endless, I think. Unfortunately, the funds are not. So, we'll have to make a decision. We have not received our check yet, but when we do, we'll have to narrow down our choices. Of course, there is the option to not spend it at all (though that somewhat defeats the purpose of the proposal). I suppose if you put it in a financial vehicle, it would still help the economy at large. The government is banking on Americans doing what Americans do... and, that is, spend. Yes, spend, my friend. We are a consumer society, aren't we? I once told a very persistent Mary Kay consultant that I really was not interested in becoming a consultant, that I wasn't a skilled salesperson. But, I quickly pointed out, that I am a very good consumer! And, that is true. Aren't we all? If we're not careful, we can adopt the "I work hard, I'm entitled to __________ (whatever)" mentality. And, that's okay if we're not living above our means. I recently passed a billboard that said, "Act Your Wage". It was an ad for Dave Ramsey, which I thought was very poignant. How wise that advice is. Have you read the "Tightwad Gazette" books by Amy Dacyzen? There are 3 volumes and many libraries carry them. It's filled with a lot of "Get out of debt" ideas and basic examples of thrifty-ness. Some may be a little extreme for some people, but she offers general concepts that are helpful. I read those books about 13 years ago and I agree with her principles. Sometimes even adopting a few changes can yield big results in the budget. Suze Orman offers good advice in her books as well. Okay... How did I get off on that tangent? Oh, I was talking about our "consumer" mentality. But, what makes consumer debt so bad?? Simply put, "It robs tomorrow to pay for today". It is a constant challenge to maintain a sound budget, isn't it? We're always looking over our budget to see where we can trim back a little. We're fairly trim already. I have made a rule recently that I think will help with unplanned purchases. I am not taking the kids with me to Walmart or any other store, if I can help it. I'm going to try to do the grocery shopping when my husband can watch the kids. You can get so distracted with shopping that you lose your resolve once you've been in the store for a while. I think it's called "shopper's fatigue". I'm convinced this alone will save us money. I'll keep you posted. Hey, and maybe you can share the best "saving money" tips you have in my new chat thread below. I'm always happy to hear good money saving ideas! Until later... be blessed, my friend. ~Crazedmom "God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ." I Peter 4:10-11

Wow! I was just reading online that a new group has formed, "Clintons for McCain". Apparantly, there are Clinton supporters who would rather vote for McCain than trust Obama for President. Incredible. I'm thinking Obama must really scare people. I think what's scary is how much we don't know about him. When "stuff" hits the fan about his acquaintances or friends, he quickly distances himself. But, the real question remains, "How many more people are in that closet"? He should be nervous because who knows how many more will come out! He is an intelligent man. He's worked hard, no doubt. The question he needs to answer is on the basis of his agenda, his vision for America, his allegiances, and his character. Whoever said "Character doesn't count" was so very wrong. The Bible says "Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it flows the issues of life." (Proverbs 4:23) So, we know that whatever is on the inside will come out! That's the difference between Obama and McCain. People generally know McCain. He's been in Washington forever. We don't know Obama and what we don't know makes us a more than a little leary about seeing him as our leader. Even if I were a Democrat, I'm not sure I would vote for him. Of course, it's hard to picture myself approving of killing innocent babies in the name of choice, being a pacifist in the time of war, having a socialist mindset in terms of health care and government entitlements, and approving of the marriage between Adam and Steve. It's hard to imagine that my heart could beat in that direction. I think politicians are highly skilled at painting the picture of "gloom and doom" in America to increase their following. I think most Americans see past that. The debate used to be about social security and scaring all the senior citizens. Now, we're capitalizing on the media's hayday of making Bush an unpopular president. We're heralding "Change" as if it were some magic wand we'll wave over this land. Change takes time, my friend. And, in the case of Washington, D.C., it takes lifetimes! Yes, Obama would change everything, folks. I think that's the most alarming facet of his proposals. Did you hear him say the other night at his acceptance speech that he would make oil companies pay to find alternate sources of energy. How is he going to do that? Now, we're a dictatorship, instead of promoting free enterprise. So, now we're going to hijack American companies to pay for a popular issue? Who gave the government that much control? Would you want the government tapping into your checking account? Not mine, no thanks. What gives them the right? This is just one example of the empty promises (or maybe he would attempt to fulfill it, I don't know); but my point is that his speeches are full of the ideals that democrats or socialists want to hear. (They have itching ears...) I'm not entirely confident that he has even thought through his proposals and their implications. Well, I trust that you are praying for November's election. The Bible says that when the godly are in leadership, the people rejoice. Be blessed. ~Crazedmom

Great news today, my friend. My son and his fiance have set a date for their wedding! We are so happy for them! They made out their guest list and my son wanted me to make a list of our out of town family members and friends also. You know how it goes... You wind up with too many people on the list! We'll start looking for a caterer soon and talk to our Pastor this weekend about a facility since we are currently meeting in a school while our church is being built. So many details! ... and they have no idea how much planning it requires. I have a good friend who volunteered to help me with the plans, so the moral support alone is priceless. Fortunately we know someone who is a photographer, so he'll be great. They went to a bookstore tonight and bought a wedding planner book, so that will give them a lot of guidance as well. Exciting! Although, I'm suddenly feeling older than my years! I am so proud of my son, though. He is so responsible and mature for his age. He has goals and has just about completed his AA degree. When you've invested your whole life in a child, there's tremendous satisfaction when they demonstrate the values and principles you've instilled. That's really how my heart feels tonight. A little overwhelmed about the planning; but oh, so very proud of him. ~Crazedmom "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Well, good afternoon, friends! Hope you're having a great Friday! :) TGIF, right? I'm looking forward to having some friends over tonight for dinner and fellowship. We're going to play Cranium also, so that should be fun! I've got to run a few errands this afternoon and get back in time to throw the chili and meatballs together. Well, not together in the same pot; but get them cooking. Crock pots are great! My older son will stop by this evening after work, so it'll be nice to see him. His fiance will still be at work, so she won't be able to make it this time. We'll set up the ping pong table in the garage. I enjoy playing ping pong, although I'm not entirely accurate! We usually lose a few balls somewhere in the garage! :) We have a foosball table too, which the kids love. (big kids too, aka the men) :) The best part of having good friends is being able to share life's joys and struggles alike. We hold each other up. When one is strong, they help the weaker; and vice versa. It has been said that "Isolation is the devil's workshop". I think that's true. How we need others because we were designed for relationship. God set it up that way. "No man is an island to himself", right? So, we highly value the people God has placed in our lives. In essence, we are each other's cheerleaders, saying, "Come on, you can make it to the finish line"! Because sometimes the road does get difficult to travel and that's when we desperately need encouragement and godly perspective to see us through. We'll never know until we reach heaven how many we have influenced for the glory of God. It is a challenge for us all to stretch ourselves and reach out to bless others who may need it more than we know. And, if you don't have a "spiritual cheerleader" in your life today... I encourage you to "encourage yourself" in the Lord, my friend. How do you do that? Read God's Word and let it soak down in your spirit man. Dwell on it; listen to it. Before long, your faith and your soul will be encouraged. I hope in some small way, you will find encouragement through this silly little blog. You're never alone. God has promised that He will never leave us or forsake us. So, you and Christ make a team; a winning team! It's a nice sunny day here and plenty warm! It's supposed to be 91 degrees today! Whew! That's when it feels like 99 degrees, at least, because of the humidity. Can you say Air Conditioning?! Well, I better get going. It's one of those days that I'm having a hard time getting moving; but out of necessity, I'm going. Have a wonderful afternoon, my friend! ~Crazedmom "Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me - now let me rejoice. Don't keep looking at my sins, remove the stain of my guilt. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don't take your Holy Spirit from me." ~ Psalm 51:7-11 NLT
