How do you hear from God?

Does God communicate with people? Yes, God does communicate with people. How does God communicate with a person is the essential issue.

The trouble with God communicating with people is not on God’s end, the individual person is the problem. Mankind is a sin corrupted and carnal minded creature. Sin corrupts our trust and reliance on God. It makes us self-reliant, selfish and self-centered. We interpret everything through the means of how it can serve us or bring us pleasure. The carnal mind keeps us fixated on earthly things and answers. A person has to trust in something, and the carnal man can only trust in the things of the flesh. Why? We digest and analyze all information through our senses and learned logic. Nothing is to be trusted if it cannot be understood or the process is not fully revealed. All this reveals a lack of trust; and, God will not feed our lack of trust. If God was to deal with a person in a carnal fashion, then the person would never be compelled to aspire to a greater spiritual maturity. God is not mankind’s servant; He is our Divine Parent that knows what best for His people. He would never leave a person without the need to trust Him.

God speaks the language of spirit in both manner and meaning. What He says is done in a spiritual fashion to address spiritual issues. What He is trying to convey describes actual spiritual things that cannot be understood by the mind of a person without God’s aid. Hence the root of the problem on a person’s end is the inability to comprehend spiritual things. It would be like a parent holding an intelligent conversation with an infant. The child can hear and see the parent; but is not mature enough to comprehend what the parent is saying. Comprehension has to develop in order for the child to communicate and converse with the parent. Spiritual comprehension comes by trust, not understanding as it increases as the person makes greater application of what God has already given them to do by trust.

How do you hear from God?

Mani,
First, let me refer to a verse from Holy Scripture, "in these last days He has spoken to us by a Son." Hebrews 1:2 So, how do I hear from God?

1. By reading Sacred Scripture, both Old and New Testaments.
2. By communicating in prayer to my Heavenly Father.
3. By asking for the leading of the Holy Spirit who indwells me.
4. By seeking the advice and counsel from godly Christians.
5. By trusting that He is in my midst and being open to His leading.
6. By reading Christian books, sermons, etc.

One cannot minimize the importance of the precious leading of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables us to hear the truth from Holy Scripture, empowers us to overcome sin, fills us with a deeper love for God, motivates us to love our brothers and sisters, inspires us to be a witness to an unregenerate world, and helps us to pray. Without the Holy Spirit, we would be hopeless, and would not be able to hear from God.

Yep, got that covered in there as well, but you went into the detailed version of inspiration and presence. I could use a plenty of Scripture, but wanted to make the post shorter since most probaly are mature enough to find a witness for the message as you did. Thanks for the word........ cut and paste

LBolt -> RE: How does God Communicate with You (6/25/2008 10:40:07 PM)

Let me add to this list. By dreams and visions, angels, God speaks through circumstances and situations.

Joseph, the step-father of Jesus was communicated through a dream at least 4 times. Abimelech in Genesis had a dream warning him to leave Abraham's wife alone... The LORD came to Solomon in a dream. The LORD spoke to Pharaoh in a dream, Nebuchadnezzer and a Midianite of Gideon's victory. There are other cases as well.

Circumstances...look at Jonah, Israel every time she disobeyed.

Visions...look at Peter in Acts, Paul in Acts knowing to go to Macedonia, John on the island of Patmos

101 -> RE: How does God Communicate with You (7/1/2008 6:14:11 AM)

I have a story to tell.
When I first became a Christian, I had some doubts about my relationship with God. One day I was in a field around mid night praying. I told God that I was having trouble being a Christian and I wondered if I really was. On the way home I was passing a secluded area on my bike and having no light to guild me, it was very dark. As I entered the area I saw a bright light coming from behind me and it lit up the whole way. I rode my bike until I got to a lit area and then I got off the path to allow the other person who had the light to go by. Once I stopped my bike, the light went out. I waited but no one came and so I looked around to find the bike or the person and found no one. The path I was on was a trial going over a lake with no other path to go on. The person may have went into the forest but I found that unlikely. Then I remembered my prayer and wondered if that had anything to do with what just happened. Was this Gods way of answering my prayer? It was really weird and I got scared. To think that God would accually be listening to me was worrysome.

God communicates with me through the Scripture, through my mind (or spirit), through other people, and occasionally has done so with an audible voice.

Thanks
RC

Preludeian -> RE: How does God Communicate with You (7/1/2008 11:57:58 PM)

God communicates by the way he knows will work to get across the 'message' he's trying to get across. That's why he will use many ways to come to one person. He came to Abraham, Paul, etc.. from many different avenues, each one fitting to what his message was. I think the level of importance and your ability to interpret them is what decides how he will come to you.

The ways he's communicated to me personally.
.: my dreams
.: other dreams that were to be interpreted by me
.: circumstances
.: scripture
.: the word, or that feeling he is trying to tell you something
.: and by voice

Each way fitting to what he's trying to cummunicate to me.

I believe the Bible is true, and what it says about how God communicates with people is true. Other extraneous things people have proposed since then I don't subscribe to.

3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) (Eph.3:3,4).

15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (2Tim.3:15).

1. God speaks to man today through the scriptures.

2. Man speaks to God through prayer.

As long as the Holy Spirit leads you to do what scripture says. Otherwise, it's not from the Holy Spirit.

Greetings, LBolt.

I'm sorry to have not replied sooner, but I don't get on here every day.

I have heard others propose that God speaks to them daily through dreams giving instructions, that God causes their hand to write things, etc. These are things to which I simply cannot subscribe. In the Bible, when God made His presence known to His prophets, He didn't hide who He was, as far as I can remember. There's no doubt at all. I believe the original language of the Scripture to be God's word, though the numerous translations have many errors.

How does God communicate with man today?

7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, ... (2Cor.4:7)

God has authorized that man preach the gospel to man during the New Testament times. A Heavenly vessel never preaches the gospel to an earthly vessel (human). The Holy Spirit is a heavenly vessel. Christ is a heavenly vessel. Man must teach man, that is how the Lord has designed the plan of salvation (2Tim.2:2).

(Acts 9:6) would have been a good time for the Lord (a heavenly vessel) to tell Paul (an earthly vessel) how to become a Christian. But instead, the Lord (a Heavenly vessel) sent Paul three days away to a preacher man (an earthly vessel) named Ananias to hear the gospel from him. Then we read of Paul being baptized in water for the remission of his sins just like those in (Acts 2:38). - (Acts 22:16)

In (Acts 8:26) a angel of the Lord speaks to Philip and tells him to go to Gaza (desert) to meet up with the Ethiopian eunuch. Philip preaches the gospel to the eunuch (Acts 8:26-40). The angel of the Lord was there and knew about the eunuch, why did the angel not go and teach the eunuch the gospel? The reason is that God has designed that an earthly vessel preach to another earthly vessel (2Cor.4:7).

Today God always uses the medium of the bible to speak to man. Never does the Holy Spirit work directly on the heart of man. It is always through the medium of the word of God that man is lead / directed.

The Holy Spirit does things FOR man, not TO man (Rom. 8:26).

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Okay you have got to find me that verse where it states that today, especially like that.
In the book of John we can read;"If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsler or to be with you forever the Spirit of truth. The world can not except him, because it neither sees him nor knows him But you know him for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans. I will come to you. Before long the world will not see me anymore
. But you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in the Father, and you are in me, and I in you. Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father and I too will love him and show myself to him." John 14:15-21 niv

So like I wrote you have a wrong thought pattern in your mind. Just remember that Gods way are not our ways nor are his thought patterns either. One more is he never ever changes or he would be a liar. wo

dear 101

I loved your story, - true story, I think it was from Him and not probably a human person.

Daddy saw that you were uncomfortable so turned the lights on for you. I just l o v e that.

I was staying in another city for a time and was in a hotel room at night. Something occurred that caused me to feel uneasy that had to do with other people also staying there, and maybe next door, I forget those exact particulars, but I will never forget these:

I felt fear regarding staying there alone so I called out to the Lord, and His presence came into tangibility around me, like a warm comfort, and the fear I felt left, but at the same time as the comfort came a brightness began to happen in the room coming from a corner where there was no physical lamp.

This corner became brighter and brighter, I was lying on my bed turned away from that part of the room, butI felt uncomfortable to turn and look at what caused the brightness. I then felt a new kind of fear, ie. fear of the spiritual or supernatural , as there was no way a physical lamp was creating that light which by that time flled the whole room with an intense brightness.

I did not look, some words were coming into my mind, not into my spirit so i did not think the words were from God, I was shown some pictures of heads of diff. things, ie. president bush, a taxi with a license plate hamas, - the light and the presence seemed from one source the Lord [ the words that came into my mind seemed from the other side, the pictures, in my minds eye seemed from the Lord, I prayed for the people in the pictures, ie bush, israel leader who I remember with his balding head,

i believe the Lord maybe sent an angel or came himself to comfort me in that brightness to take away fear, the spiritual opposition chose that time to bombard me with some disturbing words to confuse and distract, and the pictures were a message from the Lord. and i prayed about them.

Another time I was divinely protected was when driving in the same city through an intersection making a left turn, with the right of way, an oncoming suv barrelled through and I heard loug bangs and smashes as they hit my vehicle, i felt the impact when I got out to look their suv had one side all smashed in about a foot at least of collapse from the impact all down the side of the vehicle. my vehicle had only one small thumbprint above the right passenger front wheel.

a thumbprint? a hem, i am sure an angel protected me and my vehicle.

You re correct that God speaks to us through His word. But one cannot understand God's word until his heart has been changed by the Holy Spirit. Hardened hearts can't understand God's word.

The Holy Spirit indeed does things to man. Just look at the change in Paul.

God is speaking to Muslims in dreams, and revealing Jesus the Messiah to them. As a result, many are becoming believers through the dreams God is giving them.

God can and does speak to anyone He chooses. But not everyone is listening.
