daisies4u -> Knowing God vs. Being Saved (6/26/2008 10:50:14 AM)

I have seen in quite a few posts people saying that someone they know is saved but they are not serving God right now. Or, someone they know became a Christian years ago but they do not have relationship with him right now. This bothers me greatly.

What exactly does that mean? Are they really saved? I guess it bothers me so much because this is becoming the "norm". I know so many people that say they are saved, but are not living the lifestyle of a Christian. Even on these, and other, forums. When people ask for advice, sometimes what they are being told makes my skin tingle.

Is it just that we are all different and we all have different belief systems?

According to scripture, if someone is saved they are living for Jesus as Lord or else they are being chastised for a temporary lapse.

IOW. if one is happily not living for God and not being chastised - disciplined - they are not saved. They may have gotten religion for a time, but they were not born again.

I wish it were all so easy so as to say that someone isn't saved if they are not doing certain things. But we know that Christians sometimes sin and sometimes they die in active rebellion.

(Jas 2:19) Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

There is more to being a Christian than an understanding that God exist.

(Luk 6:46) And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Thanks
RC

Moving from Morality & Ethics to Salvation Issues.

Obedience is the hallmark of servanthood(disciplineship)and without humility to one's Master how can he claim otherwise? "Talk is cheap, show me your faith without obedience and I will show you my faith by my obedience." (James 2:17,18) Jesus warned, 'Judge not lest I be judge...' but I'm not to cast my care/concern in the mud for their squalor. If a person claims to be saved by the same blood as me I take them at their word; only time will tell; however I can choose to disassociate from disobedience, unbelief and arrogance.

Daisies 4 u,
Truly only God is the judge, to whom is saved or not. Unfortunately man contiues to try and play that role.
That one is saved, the other one is not and on and on. And judgemnent is made off of what they, (i) see, even you.
Yes though it is true we shall know them by their fruit. But God is the true fruit inspector. My fruit inspecting is tainted, by me being human. and if you take a glass of water and put just one tiny drop of dye in it the whole glass is tainted, therefore I do not trust my instinct, I am learning to wait for God, being taught to be wise as a serphent and harmless as a dove.

For me I have got to work out my own salvation with fear and trembling (hold myself) accountable.
Then I read on and see for it is God that works in me, to do according to his good pleasure.
So it takes in me first and foremost to belief in him. Not act like I believe in order to be liked by the group.
So in essence just seek to learn the truth, and God himself, through the Holy Ghost will teach that to you.
I like romans 14. It really says so much just in the beginning verses. Let every one be peresauded in their own mind, and you continue to grow in grace.
ineffable love

I just read an article in or paper the other day about a survey of christians and these were the results:

57% of evangelicals believe there is more than one way to God other than Jesus

80% of Catholics don't believe that Jesus is the only way to God

And a whopping 83% of Christians in mainline churches don't believe that Jesus is the only way to God.

So you're correct; it is the norm to honor Jesus with one's lips without knowing and believing him. But judging by all the online forums where Christians argue and bicker, this doesn't surprise me at all.

When someone says that another Christian "is not serving God" or they "don't have a relationship with Him," this usually means that this particular person isn't doing the things I am doing. Therefore, there must be a problem with them. This comes from a religious mindset centered on performance-based Christianity. We tend to judge others by the laws we have subjected ourselves too. And if someone else is not doing what we are, we assume that something is wrong. When, in fact, there may not be a problem at all. Too often believers feel it is their job to be fruit inspectors of other Christians. Yet, they forget that the fruit of the Spirit is just that, the fruit of the Spirit. It is not our fruit.

Rather than trying to judge the other persons heart, we should go to that person in love and reason with them and try and restore them if a problem exists. We also must realize that individuals grow at different rates than others. Some grow quickly, others can stay babes in Christ their whole lives and some may have never been saved at all. Whatever the reason, we need to keep speaking the truth in love and rely on the Holy Spirit to lead an individual into all truth and to make ourselves available to Him to use us if the opportunity arises.

Grace and Peace

I read the same thing and was surprised the figures were quite that high. This leads to only one conclusion - the deplorable condition of the Christian church. They've lost their fear of God in spite of His very clear warning:

For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? -1Peter 4:17

This is a powerful truth, GraceBro, which is easily misunderstood in certain doctrinal circles.
