Hey Narnia ... what about Googling the song titles and seeing if you can find a website to preview snippets of the music? That way you could confirm you know the songs (and get an idea about any you may not know)
I've decided that I am NOT -- I repeat NOT -- taking the kids to the fireworks tonight. We'll do the activities at the park this afternoon, and that'll be it. They were interviewing the pyrotechnician on the radio yesterday, and he said the show is 20 minutes long -- that's it. It's not worth it in the least to fight traffic to get there an hour ahead, corral all 4 kids by myself for the whole length of time because hubby is working, and then drag 4 tired cranky kids back home again (and we would still have to park at least 4 blocks away, as all roads near to the park get closed at 7). I think I have a few of the glowing bracelets around here somewhere, so if I can find them, the kids can wear them in the backyard and chase fireflies ... that'll be entertaining enough (or at least, it will for me!)

We are thinking of going to a fireworks show on the 4th. There is one that is not to far away that is free with a Davy Jones concert. Ds keeps getting the ad and and asks me if I want to see Monkees.
The next weekend we will be going to Detroit and we will go to Greenfield Village and to Frankenmuth. We will also visit family.

No fair Vicki ... you going to Frankenmuth!!! I wanna go to Bronner's!!!!!! (My cousin has delayed our trip this year because she doesn't want to risk me going into labour over there ... so now we won't be going until at least October due to our schedules conflicting)
I haven't been to Greenfield Village (or the Henry Ford Museum) since I was around 10yo.

Karaboo, when my kids were younger, my brother would take them to Detroit to see the Freedom Festival fireworks. The fireworks would be located on barges between Canada and the U.S. I think the last year they went with him was the year they came home and told me about the great seats they had. He took them on top of an old building to watch them. Oh, and he had his own kids up there, too!

Cindy, I know about not wanting to drive a truck everywhere. Ours only gets about 15 miles to the gallon.
We found a house on Lake Huron for $500 a month. Dh is having second thoughts on renting it. It would be easier than living in the apt and going up and down stairs all the time, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to stay there another month or two. (The lease is up the 1st of September.)
The lady who owns the house has been calling about 4 times a day since we saw it. She lives right next door to it and do you all see where I am going with this? I told dh that she would probably end up driving us crazy if we moved there. She is probably lonesome and is about 80 years old.
Sorry if I sound mean. I think she thinks that she has "adopted" us already!
Want to hear a "funny" story? One of my girls used to take off with her friends when she was a teenager and would really scare me because I didn't know where she was. (and yes there is hope for crazy teens! they grow up and become parents!) The other day, she called me and told me that her 13 year old had taken off in the middle of the night. She was telling me all the horrible thoughts and the awful feeling she had when she realized he was gone. She asked me if I knew what it felt like and THEN she realized what she was asking.....she told me that I didn't need to say anything.....I guess they learn, it just takes a while. She found the boy at his friends across the street, hmm wonder if she yelled at him, like I did at her when I found her???

Yay! A new month! A fresh start! Maybe I can keep up again!
We are going nowhere and doing nothing for the 4th because of the drought. Usually we love fireworks, but the thought of fireworks right now is scary. My lawn looks like I still live in Lawton! (wink to Sarah and Amy)
Sarah, I hope you do make some IRL friends soon. That group sounds like a great place to start.
The good thing about Oklahoma is that the clerks and the nurses will talk to you at least!  I embarrass my kids still by striking up conversations with total strangers. 
School is over here for the summer. My son is starting high school this fall, so I will have to do some strategic planning. My dd DID get in to the school she wanted! I think I posted that they have always had good success with home schoolers, so that worked in our favor.
So to all who graduated students before me- THANKS! Your student's reputations blesses us all.
Still, I think I will do a few things different with my next student, just to make it a bit smoother. Like have him take and SAT II in one or two subjects, or a CLEP test. The admissions officer was happy that dd had taken a few correspondence courses. I guess they like an independent grade here and there to substantiate that mom doesn't hand out As like bubble gum.

Dh is stopping to pick up dinner on the way home! We struggled last night to figure out what to eat. I am going to the base to get my mammogram tomorrow morning, so I've been waiting to go to the commissary then. Now, I have to make up menus & a list. I have a meeting tonight, but I think everyone else will stay here. Ds isn't going to Karate, since he's still not feeling 100%. Of course, they both felt well enough to get on each other's nerves for the 1st time since he's been back. Or maybe because they're not feeling great, they got on each other's nerves. Oh who am I kidding - they don't need to feel bad to get on each other's nerves!

Nick has had some sexual comments the past couple days. Last night, he was very vulgar in talking about his sister. Please pray that we would know what to do. CPS knew about this the first time it came up, when he was in kindergarten, but did not deem it worthy of removing him from his mother.
I cannot allow my other kids to be at risk, especially Hannah.

He had counseling for a year after the school called CPS, then nothing. He's had a few private parts comments here and there, but nothing like last night since then.
We are still being investigated, AFAIK, though the paper I have says they have 60 days to file something in family court or close the case. I'm sure they will think this is just retaliation for her reporting US.
He spent the night with his Grandma and 20 year old brother last week, which J promised he would not see his brother again without her there the entire time. 20 you brother is the one that watched porn with Nick when he was 5.
Honestly, last night, when this happened, I was ready to call his mother and stick him on the porch until she got here. I feel sick when I look at him. Literally sick. With my own history of being abused, maybe I am too sensitive, but I hardly slept at all with the thought of someone who would say those things about my Hannah being in my house. If it was a cousin, uncle, grandpa, family friend...my little girl would not be around him. Period. But it's her brother. So what do you do?

I went for a ride this morning. Just an easy 16miles to stretch out my legs. Plus, I worked on Ruby and needed to be sure everything was good to go for my race this weekend. A mile from home, I came very close to getting hit by a car. I was making a left turn, the car behind me tried to pass on the left and ended up cutting me off. I made the turn, but nearly hit the curb to aviod being hit. It was a very close call. I am very rattled! I've been hit before and was okay afterwards. Not sure why I'm so rattled. I have to ride again tomorrow and I'm dreading it! ACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't that long ago that we got Hannah OUT of our room. She's been sharing with Noah because she wouldn't sleep unless she was touching someone, and I was not at all worried about anything inappropriate with Noah. When Nick is here, he goes to bed first (at the same time as Levi...because both of them seem to need more sleep) and no one goes upstairs until he is asleep. Last night, he had been up there an hour and was not asleep when Noah and Hannah went up.
Brian is going to be moving Hannah's toddler bed into Levi's room, which is right outside of our room. He's doing that tonight and I am talking all day about how she is a big girl and doesn't need to be in the boys' room to sleep. She'll be able to see us from where her bed will be. We intended to do this anyway once her new bunkbeds are painted, and she is excited about sharing a room with the new baby.
I did make the suggestion that we give Nick his OWN room, on the other side of our room...putting us in between him and all the other kids (old house...you have to walk through rooms to get to other rooms). But that room is not heated in the winter, so it won't work long term. We can't afford to run heating ducts to the room right now either.
We've always been very watchful of Nick alone with anyone...no one plays upstairs or out of our sight or hearing. But yes, the radar is on full-alert right now, for sure.
