I had hubby stop by Office Max after work today, and they were already sold out of all the really good deals that I was interested in. He did get Microsoft Office for my daughter for $100; now all she needs is a laptop to go with it.

I couldn't believe how much cheaper school supplies were in the States than they are in Canada. I went to Walmart up here before we went down for our weekend getaway so I would know whether things were deals or not.

Target and Walmart were similar in the States - I bought everything at Target.

Product
12 pk Crayola pencil crayons - $4.66 in Canada, $0.88 in US
8 washable Crayola markers - $4 in Canada, $2 in US
Elmer's glue bottle - $1.27 vs $0.22
4 Expo dry erase markers - $4.97 vs $3

That's just a small sampling.

Eeep OpenOffice does the same thing for free -

Back to school means one thing to Texans

<< Tax Free weekend >>

A little misleading. But a major shopping weekend.

All of the basics and many non basics are tax free that weekend.

Sadly school supplies are not on the list. Just certain clothing.
(Even for us adults)

And don't even think you'll be able to squeeze into a mall that weekend.

Thanks Boats.

No tax-free weekends here. I didn't realize there were so restrictive, at least some places.

No tax free weekends here either, but K-Mart is having some type of sale this weekend.

Saturday I was at K-Mart. I didn't intend to buy any school supplies because they don't have the lists out for what the kids will need. I got the basics.

Pkgs. of pencils, $1.00/ea. (total of 3 pkgs.)
Pkgs. of pens, $1.00/ea. (total of 6 pkgs., different colors)
Pkgs. of 4 highlighters, $1.50/ea. (total of 2 pkgs.)
Spiral notebooks, $.09/ea. (total of 6 college ruled and 6 standard)
Folders w/pockets & clasps, $.09/ea (total of 14)
Notebook paper, pkgs. of 50, $.25/ea. (2 college ruled, 5 standard)
Crayons, 20 count, $.15/ea (total of 2 boxes)
Construction paper, 100 count, $1.00/ea. (1 pkg.)
Glue sticks, 2 count, $.20/ea (3 pkgs. total)

My big splurge was J-8. I got her a RoseArt set that has 7 pretty pencils, 3 scented erasers and a sharpener for $1.99. She can't have them until school starts. About every two hours she goes and stares at them at says that she can't wait for school to start! Sis says she never thought she'd see the day that J-8 was excited about school! LOL!

J-8 is going into second grade. J-10 is going into sixth grade. DD is going into 10th grade. So, I know that between sis and I, we need to get more stuff. I'm fortunate that dd went to visit her dad because he decided to splurge and buy her school clothes, except for a jacket and shoes.

Another sale to be aware of.

Menards - Yep Menards.

4 pack highlighters - .19 cents
5 inch kid's scissors -.19 cents
10 pack stick pens - .19 cents
rulers - the same price and also glue sticks too. All .19 cents. Of course this is after a .60 cent mail in rebate.

They also have from the looks of things pretty decent backpacks for $.99!!! Of course that is ALSO after a $5.00 mail in rebate.

I'm going to check out the backpacks today as it is ALWAYS nice to have a couple extras on hand.

Blessings,

Garsy

I just finally bought all my school supplies. I didn't have to buy as much as I thouht I was going to, because a man at church bought fully stocked pencil boxes for all of my kids Sunday. I spent an additional $40 at Walmart today on lined paper, binders, dividers, more pencils (you can't ever have enough of those!) a ruler, some erasers, glue, and tape.

Yeah, he and his wife are both really sweet people. They don't have their own grandchildren within spoiling distance, so they are always buying little gifts for our kids. Many of the people in our church like to do nice things for our kids, so it's like our kids have a lot of extra grandparents now.
