I use King James only because in some of the other Bibles there are places where a word is changed and it changes the meaning of the verse. In the King James,It says,"In my Fathers house are many mansions".In another version It says,In my Fathers house are many rooms."I don't trust any other version.
JUST MY OPINION.

i bought a HCSB yesterday. did a little reading last night.

man.....it's gonna take some getting used to. while there are things i like about it...it saddened me that a few of my fav verses were worded so differently from the NIV.

I use an New International Version. I like to be able to understand what I'm reading without having to use a dictionary to see what a word means. Lazy? Maybe. Or maybe I just want to be able to read the Scripture uninterrupted.

Just a note: The archaic definition of mansion simply means "an abode or dwelling place." It could be that "mansions" used to mean just that - a room of your own. Over time, like other words, it evolved to mean something grandiose and huge.

Have you ever read the demensions of Heaven?I looked this scripture up in my commentary, and from what I read,Heaven is God's home. And from the size of it,I would be safe at saying, there are many mansions there.God promised me a mansion, and that's what I'm expecting.

I prefer to know what He really promised instead of what some human translator some 400 years ago thought a word might mean.

Think about it: "In my Father's house are..."

Name all the sorts of things you might find in a house, even a very big house. Would you list "mansion" as something you'd expect to find in a "house"? If not, then either the word "house" was translated poorly or "mansions."

Again, I'd much rather be claiming what Jesus is really offering instead of what I've always heard.
