Actually, the soft liner was made from the same material and chemicals as plexiglass. The metals are surgical metals, but I'm allergic to anything except 14 k gold and better. A snap on blue jeans or a metal zipper touching my skin will cause blisters.

Did you know Lanolin is made from wool? Wool breaks me out. Lanolin causes my skin to itch. So does touching my face a lot, tho. (I seem to remember from many years ago that Abiyah is a face toucher, too.) Cashmere drives my eyes crazy and nylon hose will cause a temporary rash on my legs that will go away when I remove the stockings. I don't consider myself an allergic person, tho.

Ha-ha-ha! I am allergic only to the far-cheaper metals. I still have all the wrist watches I tried to wear, in order to satisfy the old church before they booted me.

No, I didn't know lanolin is a wool product! Interesting!

I don't know about being a face-toucher. I don't remember that. But I am glad I am not allergic to all those things you are. Wow, Diane!

Yeah, my mom is the same way.

Actually, I did know that, but it was waaaaaaaay back in the far corner of my brain. I never made the connection between lanolin and someone allergic to wool. Definitely good to keep in mind.

Abiyah--how's your mouth feeling???

My mouth feels fine. I haven't noticed a difference in feeling yet, BUT . . .

When all of you encouraged me to start this, I checked my tongue first. Ar the time, it was nice and pink (with the usual deep rivulets through it, where it had been occasionally cracking and bleeding), except for a couple of white patches.

Excuse me, while I go look at it now . . . .

Okay. This isn't a good time to tell you what it looks like. Give me a couple days. I forgot to take my Bs for several days.

It used to be that I took them about every three days; now, I need them daily.

I'll get back to you in a couple days with an answer to this question.

(Can everyone else not see my avatar? It doesn't show on my computer.)

Abiyah, your avatar is missing on my computer.

Didn't you get hives on your jawline a number of years ago? I seem to remember us talking about that and how I got them too but both of us touched our faces while unoccupied. I'm sure it was you. LOL

I really don't consider myself allergic except to the metals. Sulfa drugs, yes. In general, no.

An older friend pierced my ears with her daddy's nickle upholstery needle when I was 15. That's when the metal allergy began.

My wife is on medication and it reacts against milk products, and she ate yoghurt by mistake. Diet is I guess an increasing issue as one gets older. There was a time when I thought ppl ought to eat everything...

The earring metal allergy is quite a widespread problem; I used to wear earrings myself and although it was okay on me, lots of ppl have difficulties. But now you can get plastic retainers to keep the piercings, without using metal. For ppl with multi-piercings and who have allergies to metal, this is quite a relief, right?

Thank you to all who answered about my Avatar. I can't see it. Is the one you see me as a child or a recent photo of me, with a milk moustache?

YEP! I like that photo! That one was taken less than a week before my Mommy Dearest license photo -- I mean my Mommy Deadest photo. I am disappointed that it isn't there. That was my attempt to sooth myself, to say I don't look that bad!

Waaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!

Diane, no, that wasn't me. I rarely have had hives, and none that I know of on my face. Was that my evil twin -- Mommy Dearest?

I never had any indication that I had an allergy to metals until that fiasco with the old church. I had some really nasty breakouts from those watches. Maybe they were hives. They were red, the burned and itched, and they would break open. Sometimes, I think G-d gave them to me to help move me out of that church!! If so, I am grateful.

When I responded, it was to an avatar as you as a child. Now it is you with a milk moustache...

Check out www.conceptsjewelry.com They make their jewelry with nickel free metals. I can wear those and they often have earrings for 99 cents! Money back guarantee, too.

Great site - I looked it up.

Nickel can be a problem, yes.

But I guess that this earring manufacturer (and others) can make sure that you and maybe other women - and possibly men - in your family can enjoy their pierced ears, right?

That does look like a great site. I don't have pierced ears, though, so I am not having the problem anymore, since I don't wear a watch. I think I'll tell my granddaughter about it, though; she has pierced ears and allergy problems.

Speaking of salt, way back, they began to iodize salt, because people were not getting enough iodine in their diets. Now, we buy uniodized sea salts and other special salts. It makes me wonder if we are getting enough iodine. Anyone know about this?

The description they have is brilliant!

Not a lot, sorry. Iodine deficiency can affect your thyroid (hypothyroidism) though and is prevelant in some parts of the world, so it seems to make sense to supplement some foods, not sure why salt though.
