There we go! "Mother's Bosom Homeschool Academy". I like it!

Except they may think you nursed them right up through...LOL.

I wonder if the school officials could ask if the child was weaned yet. I'm sure they don't take nursing children in college.

I didn't want it to be too "homeschooly" because I want my diploma accepted as any other small private Christian school diploma.

But it didn't work out that way this time, as my neighbor is the Dean of Students at the local university my dd wanted to attend. So he knew we home schooled. They even asked us about it, as we put "private school" on the admissions form rather than "home school". I told them that since her diploma was issued by a private school, that's what I chose on the application. (I checked with HSLDA first!)

I have met home school families here in my current state that I DO NOT want to be associated with, though that never happened in my former state.

By that I mean people whose 11 year old can't read the instructions on the screen of a video game and has to ask the other players what option to choose for multi-player game. Mom has no plans to "make" her son read if he doesn't want to. By that I mean people whose teens can't look adults in the eye and speak clearly (but the girl can skin a deer in no time at all!). Both families are 100% committed to unschooling philosophy at it's most extreme. Honestly, these kids scare me!

It turns out, as some one else posted earlier, that the university has had good success with home schooled students and even considered recruiting home schoolers specifically. So in this case it would not have made any difference.

But it did in my former state. Home schoolers registered with the state were treated as one type of student, with different rules for scholarship eligibility. Home schoolers registered with a private school were treated as any other private school student.

I guess I'm still living in the past!

Okay, I'm at it again. I think we may use Aletheia Family Academy. My husband said he likes that one best.

Groan! You guys reminded me of a short video someone on here linked to once, where this guy took his girlfriend home to meet his mom, and the guy was still nursing. The girl was like . I would hope all homeschoolers would steer clear of giving that impression. We don't wanna make homeschooling seem weird to people who already think it's weird, lol.

I think you're probably right. From what I understand, many colleges actually seek out homeschoolers, so there's no need to try and hide the fact and present ourselves at a private school. We've always been very open and proud of the fact that we are homeschoolers, and I've never been worried about people asking questions, either. I'm sure that's because of my own background. Since I'm a second generation homeschooler, people tend to not question my decision.

I finally told my kids that I changed the name of our school from Lastname Homeschool to the XXX R. XXXXX Memorial Academy after my brother. DD2 (who is most emotional about this and probably misses him the most) thought it was great. I emailed my SIL about it tonight too.

I'm several years from potentially starting homeschooling, but my first thought was "Huh, would I get in trouble if I called it "Starfleet Academy"?"

I'm such a geek.

Our poor daughter.

Hee!

Starfleet Academy!! I love that. I am pretty sure my DH would veto it though. oh well.

I was leaning toward Cygnet Academy... all the ugly duckling stuff plus: we live on Swan St. So the letterhead would be kind of cool. but I think there are a lot of Cygnets out there... so I am not sure. And I am hoping to move in a few years.

I could use Ivy in there somewhere for my maiden name. (plus might make people think Ivy league?!)

Asked DS, he says I can do whatever I want... he thinks it is dumb.
(but he did choose Vikings for a mascot.)

I didn't think about naming our homeschool til I bought Edu-Track and to register they ask for a school name, so in a pinch I came up with - (our Surname) Schoolhouse. The surname made it personal and Schoolhouse brought us back to a time when schools welcomed Christianity, conservatism, wholesome morals, and excellence in academics. I thought of Academy, but it seemed too secular/generic with just our surname. I wanted something that highlighted, well, an old fashioned schoolhouse and all the good that came with it.

We named our homeschool Prairie Academy--our location. We named it because we've always thought that naming someone or something had very special significance in the Scriptures. An example would be when Adam named the animals or when God changed Abrams name to Abraham. We took naming our children very seriously too giving them names that reflected character qualities we wanted them to have and tying all their names to together as brothers and sisters. I guess names are special to us :)

No, but if I did it would be something like:

Kohlina Center for Academic Excellence or KCAE (pronounced 'Kay)

or, I'd let my son pick something....in which case it would be something along the lines of "Hiker School" or "School for Navy Spy Kids"

Our states says to name the school. I thought it was silly, but did it anyway. I am glad that we did.Our name is meaningful. Although we are nearly finished homeschooling after 14 years, I think the name will always be remembered. It is:
Isaiah 54:13 Christian Homeschool
"All your children shall be taught by the LORD and great will be the peace of your children"

We've been going through this discussion at our house since Homeschool Tracker is asking for a name.

Two of the kids want something related to Lord of the Rings. One wants Latin (Libris). I kind of like -name- Academy of Arts and Sciences, but to be truthful it should be the Academy of Staying Up Too Late Reading.
