Another thing I wanted to ad. We have to be careful that sometimes our personal preferences can be unhealth based on.. phycological reasons. For example. I think we are all familiar with the Bad boy syndrom. girls being attracted to bad boys rather than good guys. I know I suffered from a pinch of it and my sister... she takes it to the level of jail bate!

For me I saw it like this. Its easy to fall for a "bad boy" for a few different reasons. ONE, a bad boy can come of as strong and confident (when most of the time it is SO the opposite, they are actually incredibly cowardly and insecure). TWO (and this one really hit me) There is something about the feelings you get when you are able to make a "bad boy" be sensitive and sweet towards you. It makes you feel extra special ya know. Kinda goes along with the "play hard to get" game. Everyone wants to feel like they won over something special, not something easy. Nice guys seem to easy, but the truth is, they are the ones who are most likely more real than others.

People keep saying that but with all of the girls I know that is so not true. Could it be because we don't live in the US? I speak for all o f my female friends when I say we don't find "jail bait" guys to be attractive at all. We have quite high standards for the guys we let into our lives, still the bar isn't so high that no guy can cross it. But "bad boys" - NO WAY!!!

I believe the answer is affirmative. What you value more is what you're looking for in the potential. If you value money, you'll look for those who are rich. If you value physical quality, you'll look for those who are physically gorgeous and well-dressed. But if you value character, you'll look for and consider those who have great character. I believe it's only fair to say there's no right or wrong what attracts you in a person, even though I may have my own set of values which can be very different from anyone of you.
But one thing is you must find the person attractive. It means that you may find someone who has all the qualities you are looking for, but you just can't be attracted to him/her. It happens all the time. And both may only stay most as good friends, but not going further to something beyond the friendship.

I have to be physically attracted to the guy, no matter how awesome his personality is, there's gotta be that chemistry. Unfortunately I am not super hot...and I've never been asked out by a guy from church. (Though I have dated handsome men--and not so handsome, never a church guy!! grr) It always felt like they wanted the prettiest girls and wouldn't give me, the inbetweenie, a chance. Not even to be my friend! yes I'm complaining! sheesh!

Very good point. Do you think it is a heart issue? That the way to deal with it is to do what you did: fight the reasons that make you go after the wrong person?

I don't think its about "sucking it up" and just forcing yourself to date someone... I guess to a certain degree. I don't know. I have tried to do this in the past and I dont think the girl appreciated it. But to the other degree, you need to have the commitment to stick with a good relationship, even when things can get tough.

Physical attraction is definitely a part of the attraction. God created women to be beautiful in man's sight and vice versa. No it should not be the basis of "giving someone a chance", however it obviously plays a large part in the initial stages of finding someone.

Personal taste, I feel hasn't really been completely addressed. Yes its all about personal taste. Why? Because God made each one of us completely different and so because of that we don't all like the same things or have the same opinions. We are unique and that makes us special. So of course personal taste is important. If personal taste were not involved, then everyone would want to marry a super attractive person and they would only marry a super attractive person. Then no one else would want to marry because everyone is only attracted to the same person. Unfortunately, this has all been corrupted by the sin of the flesh and caused certain things to gain importance that shouldn't be.

The first thing you should be attracted to in a person is their relationship with Christ. If it isn't there, then you shouldn't be there either.

For me, I definitely want to find my future wife to be the most beautiful person in the world as many men do. But beauty is way more than how they look. The most attractive thing to me in a woman is their personality. I've known some beautiful girls, who were duds as people and therefore lost all attractiveness in my mind. There have been people that I've found myself attractive to that, by the world's standards, would not be found so.

Its definitely about personal taste. That comes from God. Its not a shallow, surface thing. Its God's way of showing you himself through his perfect creation. Us.

I've gotten offended, because I don't view myself as pretty. So when a guy says that, I think that I'm not pretty enough for them. Because I myself feel ugly.

I honestly don't care if a man is poor or rich or whatever. Money shouldn't matter.


Everybody is different. We all have different tastes. My personal taste is that I need a man that is after God's own heart and he will put God before me. But being rich and being pretty aren't always important.
