I can certainly relate, however, I'm not sure my experience will be much help or comfort to you. My son was 4 months old (just received 4 mo shots) when he got sick with cold like symptoms. He was just starting to get over them when he got his 6 mo shots. The next two years we were at the Dr's an average of 3 times every 2 weeks during the winter, about twice a month in the summer with breathing problems. Since then the visits have dropped off a bit more each year with more visits in winter than in summer. Antibiotics did not help. Cold medicines did not help--except one very expensive prescription med which was later taken off the market. The inhalers/breathing treatments, and other asthma type meds do not work well, and do not help the sinus problems (biggest issue). He is an active child and I refused some of the steroid meds after seeing the effect of a single dose. He has seen two allergists and been tested for allergies twice...once at 18 mo, once at 3 years...always negative. He has been to a ENT...same result as with the allergists. He is put on very expensive medicine that had no or little effect on the symptoms. I have identified some things that are "triggers" of his problems--like smoke. If we walk into a restaurant, and I can smell smoke, we will turn around and leave because the time it would take to eat a meal would have him unable to breath within 24 hours...and it really is a delay. He does not show immediate symptoms when he is in the presence of smoke, it takes time for the effects to be seen. Presuming he is the same with other triggers, this could explain why we don't know every thing that causes problems. I cannot begin to tell you the number of nights I've sat in bed holding a sleeping infant/toddler/child listening to him struggle to breath saying if it gets any worse, we're going to the emergency room. And a few times we did go to the emergency room. We also have cats (and dogs and horses) and were told that it was probably the cats...except my son's problems are seasonal and the cats are actually inside more in the summer than the winter...not to mention negative allergy tests. We wash all bedding regularly, including my son's pillow which is a special pillow for allergy sufferers. We do not use fans in my son's room. We use the more expensive filters in the heat pump and are looking into a hepa air filtration system.
