Yeah. It sure seems strange that someone would right away think that the table is possessed and must be exorcised.

Wow this has been a busy thread this past day or two.

Anyway, faithwalkingmom, it seems you are getting criticized quite a bit. I think you felt what you felt, and you did what you thought you had to do. You took it to God, asked Him to protect your house, and I think you did the right thing. It seems many of us are in the dark about demons, I know I am, even though a little less than i was after reading the book I just did. Anyway, I just want to apologize on behalf of all of us who may have criticized you. That is uncalled for, and by no means warranted. Take care.

Actually, I think most of the thread was debating with someone who caused quite a commotion - I don't think we meant to criticize.

But the part with the table being evil was a bit strange.

I think in times of fear the believer can remember what the Lord Jesus said: "Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.'

Take care.

Very true FF, He is so much greater. The other one does tend to scare us though. When fear strikes us, it is a little bit harder to remained focused, and remember who is in charge. The devil only has the authority over us that we give him. If we rest assured in the Lord, satan has no power over us, then he throws a hissy fit.

Thank all for posting. We do have a fireplace but it's a gas fireplace so no wood buring in there. We went to the fireplace first just in case but nothing. My husband was in the same room and he has never smoked in his life. I'm just glad that I know the Lord God and that He has given me the power over satan/demons. I did ask God to put the hedge of protection around our home. I went to our pastor tonight and he seems to think that evil has come into the house with the new table that we got at a yard sale and brought home sunday afternoon, we smell the smoke ordor sunday after evening services. We prayed and rebuked any evil that came in with that table to leave our home.

I would now return this back to the OP page two, in which Faithwalkingmom's pastor suspects that evil came into the house the same day an unsuspicious table from a yard sale did.

Hi faithwalkingmom,
I am just curious it the table you bought was painted, or finished, or was it unfinished (just plain wood). Also, how far away was it from the arch of your house under which you smelled smoke and Satan/demons? I believe that any evil that was associated with that table is gone, and I personally would do what I would do to ensure a safe household if I felt threatened. On that we are certainly in agreement. I'm just curious how far away that table was from that spot in your house under the arch, and what appearance the table has. There is another forum member named Bluestone, who sports a yellow can of Pledge for an icon (I'm lost on the connection there) who would argue using Pledge would be good. On that, I would disagree. What you want to use is something lemon or orange oil-based first. Something that will clean the table down to it's natural wood tone. Maybe use a Pledge spray at the end. Those polishes can leave a protective film that would seal in any smoke odor. You don't want that, and you don't want to damage the original finish, if there is one. I think Formby's is a brand name of lemon oil treatment, but anything like that is what I'd use first, and some good old-fashioned 'elbow grease' rubbing.

I know it's hard to be new and introduce such heated topics to the forum. Please don't hesitate to seek help when you feel they are running away from you.

God bless, and count me as totally ignorant on the subject- how long does a hedge of protection last? I know that doesn't mean watering it and trimming it and all that because we are talking about the spiritual realm here. Is it good for the entire time someone lives in a house, or just until the instance resolves itself. I do not jest here. I haven't read anything about them, nor tried to 'put one' myself.

Hi,

I'm a new poster. I don't know about the smoke thing.
However, about a year ago we moved to a new area and into a new house.

Wierd thing is that all of us heard stuff in the house. Like someone moving around.

And I, in particular, had several dreams where someone was standing over the bed.

Well, come to find out that someone had committed suicide in the house. So we decided that we had an unwelcome guest in the house. (A demon, not a ghost. No such thing as ghosts.)

So at our pastor's suggestion, my wife and I prayed through the house. And we feel that the presence is gone now. So did we have some sort of presence in the building?

Thank you for apologizing on behalf of the people who criticized this woman. It took a lot for her to post here, and there was nothing Christlike about how some people replied. Ignorance is defined as darkness, not knowing or understanding, but stupidity is defined as not being able to understand or comprehend. It's okay to be ignorant about something, but it is a whole 'nother thing to be stupid. We can always switch on a light to disperse darkness, but what do you do when the bulb is missing and the switch is disconnected.
Thank you for being a gentleman and showing Christlikeness.

Freetoworship,
First, no one has condenmed the OP. Realist explanations have been offered concerning her problem.

Are you saying that those who do not believe her problem involves demons are stupid?

Or that being gentlemanly and Christlike means encouraging her to see demons in inanimate objects rather than consider a rational explanation first?

Praying is good for all concerns. While I wouldn't want to dispute you, your wife, or your pastor, you didn't elaborate on the noises so I can't exclude the possiblities of the Rat Patrol, sneaky squirrels or a hobo raccoon.

Sorry, I didn't put a whole lot of detail.
We didn't exclude the possibility of four-legged guests either , but the exterminator didn't work and prayer did. Of course, maybe the Lord chased the varmints out.

Not to mention the dreams stopped. (Other family members had similar experiences, as well.) And there was a weird shadow on one occasion as well... While wide-awake, BTW.

And prayer is always good!

Thank you for your reply, but if you take a second look at my comment you will find that I never said anyone condemned her. What I said was she has been criticized by some, not everyone. Not only was she criticized, but some people mocked her as well, and this was either done in ignorance or stupidity, the choice is up to you.

Realist explanations I do not have a problem with, what I do have a problem with is ignorance. Ignorance can be remedied. The remedy for ignorance is as simple as turning on the light switch and stepping into the light and out of the darkness. God provides the light of knowledge through the Holy Spirit.

Realistically, the smell could have come from many things, but each thing that was named she has conversely dispelled with realistic explanations. Now either this woman is a liar, or she is going crazy, or maybe she is being perfectly vulnerable and honest in her attempt to understand what has happened to her and her husband. I am quite intent on believing the latter of the three.

Most of the people here have dealt with this woman gently, but others have been hasty in their criticism and mockery, and that is not Christlike.

As for the "gentleman" remark, yes, he was a gentleman in the way that he came to her aid in the sense that he not only apologized, but he encouraged her to stand in what she believes, and helped in her recovery from some of the comedic and mocking comments that were made towards her.

Sometimes the greatest offenses come from learning the truth and not wanting to be accountable to it.

Maybe saying he was a gentleman was to sweet for everyones taste, but I am a female, and I know a gentleman when I encounter one. With all that being said, I will say it in another way, so that no one has to wonder, guess, or assume that I am saying something different.

I will use the biblical term Good Samaritan. He saw her laying on the side of this Forum Road, and decided to aid in her healing from the wounds she received in the house of her friends. In his actions was his Christ-Likeness. He encouraged her to receive healing through forgiveness.

Oh, I see. you were not saying we are stupid. Just ignorant. Another sweeping generalization of those of us who don't buy into the current church trends of dabbling in paranormal psychobabble.

I think mainly what most of us are saying is: don't immediately think that something is from the devil until you've looked at it from all angles. It's too easy to say that it's possessed when the problem could be something else.

The OP only responded twice...

I too did not see anyone directing hurtful comments at the OP. Challenging her assessment and encouraging her to seek out other, more plausible, explanations is not unloving. I would actually call that loving. And, again, if you reread this thread, you will see that the antaganism was with another poster for a separate reason.

And I would strongly encourage you not to imply or infer that people are ignorant simply because they encouraged the OP to not jump to conclusions regarding what was going on with her table. I'd call that anything but ignorant.

I'm sorry that I cause such a stir with this topic. I have only posted twice cause it would take me all day to reply it just a few of the postings here. I just wanted info from other christians who may or may not have this happen to them. I believe that I did what the Spirit lead me to do for our family. We have not had anymore "problems" with this. I do thank everyone's posts here and I have read each one. I more then likely will not post again on this thread since I have taken care of this problem.
