Ok, so where do you GET the starter culture to use? I've seen bottled kefir, but never the starter.

I buy mine from Azure Standard. I don't know where else to get it. If you can find plain kefir at the store, you should be able to use that to culture your own.

In an effort to create a simple schedule to count on when school starts and we all get busy, we are going to use a weekly dinner schedule:

Sunday: Soup-Salad-Breadsticks
Monday: Chicken
Tuesday: Mexican
Wednesday: Pasta Night
Thursday: Sandwich Night
Friday: Homemade Pizza
Saturday: Pasta Bake

I do my shopping weekly and hopefully, I can make the most of fresh & sale ingredients for the menu each week.

Last night, Sandwich Night, we had Tuna Salad & Sliced Tomato Sammy, Veggie Crudite, Hard-boiled Eggs & Sun Chips.

Tonight is Pizza Night!

Hey, that's sounds like a good idea! I like Friday to be Pizza night too. I've also used this link to do meal plans. 1 Bag, 5 Dinners I like that they do the shopping list for you.

Tonight will be veggie omelets. We have eggs and veggies that need to be used and I'm not really feeling like making quiche.

We finally refilled our propane tank! So we'll grill steaks of some variety, with field greens, multi-grain ciabatta rolls, and either fresh corn on the cob or sweet potato fries asparagus on the side.

The kid had hamburger helper. After I drop them off at VBS I will make some pasta roni chicken quesadilla with some of my own chicken, sour cream, cheese, and cayanne pepper added in.

Thanks Ryanne- I found one near here and e-mailed, but it looked familiar so I may have done that before. Never thought to try freecycle or craigslist.

Do you have a good recipe for Shepherd's pie? I am dying for that, but all of my recipies seem fake.

Fake? I don't get it. This is what I do. I cook up some meat and vetables like I'm making soup. When it's tender, I add cold broth mixed with cornstarch to make it thick. I pour it into a pan and either put mashed potato over the top or a biscuit topping, then bake at 350 till it's done. About 20-25 minutes.

Tonight we are having flank steak with spinich and feta cheese rolled in them. (Greek Pinwheels) baked potatoes, and some kind of vegetable.

I would love to make this and have some flank steak I purchased for this purpose, however, I'm afraid to unthaw it and make it, as I don't want it to be tough. Can you explain how you do this?

Ok, if you are doing it yourself, it is easy. Sometimes I cheat and buy them from the meat counter, but only when I need a couple and it is cheaper to buy them all done. But you take the flank steak and spread a layer of feta cheese on top, then a layer of spinich. You can put in as much or as little as you want. I like alot of spinich so I pile it three or four layers high, then you roll it up, tie it, and you can bake it whole, or pre slice it, but then each slice needs to be tied.

I bake it at 350 for about an hour if the are 2 inches thick. I wrap in foil so that it can cook in its juices, but sometimes I add salt and pepper, or I season them with some rosemary and thyme.

I hope I explained that well enough because it is that easy. Layer, roll, tie, bake.

I either do "old bay" or shrimp scampi when I have shrimp. Grilled shrimp kabobs can be good, but I have a habit of overcooking them on the grill.

I can imagine that if you put the shrimp and the vegetables on the same skewers that the shrimp would be done long before the veges. Have you tried putting the shrimp on skewers separately and cooking them for a shorter time?

What about a scampi or some sort of spaghetti or linguini and garlic butter or wine sauce? Or you can grill them and make kabobs.

It's. Too. Hot. To. Cook.

But I have to. What? I have no idea.

I'm seriously considering making them all PB&J and going down to the lake. If Brian is home at a decent time...I can't handle all four of them in the water by myself.

We did go to the lake and it was wonderful. No one complained about sandwiches for dinner either.
